Worth the drive if you are interested in Navajo art, history, and culture. Quality rugs and vendors at affordable prices. It is an experience that is worth it. Rugs range from tiny to room sized. Rugs went from $35 to over $2000. Whatever your budget, it is worth checking out.

This was a wonderful experience. It happens generally every month on the second Friday evening of the month. Not only is there a rug auction, but there are also Native American vendors of other goods as well, such as jewelry, pottery etc. They even had Navajo Tacos for $5.00. It is held in the Crownpoint Grade School which is a fairly new facility. You are able to view the rugs before the auction, which starts at 7:00 PM, viewing starts around 4:30 in the afternoon. When I went, there were two auctioneers who traded back and forth. Most of the rugs were very small, and went for 100-200 dollars, but there were some very large ones that sold into the high 2000-3000 dollar range. The auctioneers made the comment that similar rugs would sell in Santa Fe for much more, and they were probably right. Do note that if you use a credit card there is a 4% surcharge. Their web site did not mention this.
