My review is strictly regarding their catering manager and nothing more. I first came by this place hoping I could speak to the catering manager on 12.9 for a large party on 1.6.24, but the dining hall was closed. I found the website info here and reached out via phone and email on the same day, 12.9. I called again on 12.12 and was told to wait for a response from Chris. So I emailed him again. He finally responded on 12.12. After several emails, I received the catering menu prices. The responses and response time is so stunningly inconsiderate that I felt like he couldn't be bothered.Very loooow touch. There seems to be no way to speak to this guy in person. It was as if I was engaging with myself. Finally, so much time elapsed that I had a snafu with the date I selected. I guess the terrible response time worked in my favor since I hadn't committed any money. How could I? On 12.12 I reached out to Chris with the new date inquiring about availability. He never responded... 7 days went buy. I assumed my new date could be accommodated. So, I spent 1.5 hours trying to download their video menu. Selected food and stupidly stopped by yet again. I communicated to 50 people that we were all set... NOPE! On 12.19, after sending TWO more emails, he bothers to tell me that the venue is not available. There are two events planned for my date.HA!How does anyone plan an event with you ghosting customers? It must be your kin!Dreadfully inconsiderateThen he bothers to apologize for the miscommunication???Do you mean the ZERO communication + the ghosting? It looks like a nice venue. My neighbors retiree peeps come here all the time but I will experience this for myself now will I Chris Parker?

Where do I start? This place is an absolute JOKE! Which is a shame because it is a good course. Not sure what kind of sick humor these people are into but $155 tee times in November? Really?? And then you're still charging $125 for 4:00 and later tee times? What are these people on???? I don't want to hear about that "dynamic pricing" nonsense! It's unfortunate because you'll still have the smooth-brained C*VID golfers that will pay the absurd prices so they'll keep on charging it and these other people who hop on here and get on their knees for this place. Rumors are that they hiked the prices up because the neighborhood around it was tired of all the traffic. If that's the case shame on the neighbors and shame on this place for kowtowing to such idiocy. Don't waste your money here. Better yet don't even waste your time here! You charge $155 how about paying a ranger to keep up the pace of play? Just a thought, rounds that last 5 to 5 and a half hours are the best, and I've even experienced nearly a 6 hour round here in the past, which is honestly pathetic that they allow such a slow pace of play. Only played here once this year and won't be returning until they catch a grip and lower they're prices. Disgraceful!

Where do I start? Should I start with the beautiful course design? Great course conditions? Awesome staff? I have enjoyed playing this course since it went public 4 or so years ago and every year it improves. They have a halfway house that serves great drinks and snacks.. The course design is a throwback to the golden era of golf course architecture and a real fun track. It’s a course you will for sure want to comeback and play.. They have new golf carts, (super comfy ride) with gps, plus if you like music you can Bluetooth you tunes onto the cart speakers. I seriously could go on forever, but I would recommend you stop reading reviews and go play Rock Sping asap.

An exceptional round for course architecture enthusiasts, with dramatic Raynor sculpting on full display. Otherworldly green sites that called for some very fun short game shots! I’m thrilled that the course is taken such great care of. It’s a pleasure to walk, as you can soak in the views across the course in every direction.

Great course. Well run and maintained. Many amenities you don’t normally see on a public course.

Course has seen it's better days. Just got done playing and if you like a 5 hour round on a Thursday come and play here. No rangers in site to keep the pace of play moving. Over priced for a run down past it's prime Country Club. Starter was grumpy and made it appear he could care less you were there. What made it even worse was the fact they were aerating the tee boxes in the middle of the day on a Thursday and you had to "Play around them" What a joke.Only bright spot was the bartender/server who made a great bloody mary and wonderful egg sandwich on brioche bun. I've played many courses and will not be going back to this one. Stay away

Nice course and friendly staff.. I won't knock you on the stars but I haven't played Rock since they pumped the prices to the moon. Sorry guys it's not close to a 120$ round course. I would say it's around a 80$ w cart course. I just checked and there are tee times available all day .. I will be back when they come back down to reality.

I live in Montclair, NJ and play golf 1-2 times a week. This is the best public course in northern NJ. It’s expensive but you get what you pay for.The course is in fantastic condition, I can almost always get a tee time without much advance notice. Challenging layout keeps each hole interesting. Great course of all levels, newcomers or seasoned veterans.Staff are super cool. Cart girls are cool. I love the hotdog stand at the turn.

Played yesterday. I have read all the previous reviews and I understand the architect is highly regarded and this place gets a bunch of play from the “NYC crowd” because they don’t want to plunk down $275 for Ferry Point.Course is NOT worth $100 maybe $50 tops. Poor drainage, rocks and mud in the bunker very little sand if any. Layout is nice. The views are great and yes you’re playing a former private course. But the condition and pace of play (no course people pushing the foursome hacking in front of us)So, 100 bucks for waiting every shot, bunkers in lousy shape and poor drainage. Hard pass unless someone else is paying or they reduce rates

Fantastic experience here. Staff were informative and friendly. Great rolling terrain and Raynor greens. Slightly towards the more expensive side, but this course delivers.

I've been exceptionally fortunate to have played Rock Spring for well over 100 rounds when it was a private country club and now a public course run by Kemper and owned by the town of West Orange. I absolutely love this course. It is a rare gem in all domains, and I believe it is as good course if not better in some respects as the surrounding private courses at Montclair GC and Essex GC, given the walkable nature and consistently fair risk/reward features of the challenges it presents at every shot. The greenskeepers at the club have worked tirelessly this past winter to bring the experience to another blissful level, with the brand new cart paths, and fully renovated turf. There really isn't a better public course available in North Jersey or surrounding NYC nearby suburbs, so, I hope folks continue to come out and support the excellence at our disposal. Also, the clubhouse is a sensational spot to enjoy drinks and food afterwards. Admittedly, the greens fees are a little more costly than the avid golfing residents of the surrounding areas are use to paying, but it's absolutely worth it. Sometimes on the weekends and Fridays the rounds take longer, but that's a product of there being some less experienced and skilled golfers on the course, in my opinion. Thanks so much, Rock Spring, the town of WO, and Kemper, for bringing us a truly outrageous public golf course so close to home for the Northern Jersey and NYC golfers out there who yearn for a exceptional private course but for the public.

Not worth the $120 weekday green fee, but a decent last minute option if you want to play a round. People are friendly and professional. The greens are painfully slow, like some par 3 pitch and putt course. Zero sand in the bunkers. There’s no driving range to warm up, but clearly they have space to create a proper area (even if it’s just for irons and a practice bunker). Carts are electric and clean. Good course for walking but unsure if they charge you less for that option. If you play in the morning, there’s no food or drink available on course before 10am, so arrive prepared. Drainage is so-so after heavy rain. A four hour round (or less) is possible on a weekday. Seems like weekend play could be very slow going.Within a one hour radius of NYC there are better options for the same price. If you live in NJ, I’m sure you have even more to choose from.

Easily the nicest public course within a 30-mile radius of Manhattan. Tee times can be steep. They just upped it to $150 recently. That said, course is well-maintained, carts are as new as they come and staff are friendly. Worth checking out if you've run out of public courses to play in Jersey.

Made a reservation for nine for two people and when we showed up they said we can play nine however can only pay for 18. Beautiful course but what kind of management allows people to make a reservation for 9 holes then ask for almost $140 for 18 on a weekday.

Really disappointed. Came on a Sunday around noon from the city and had to quit after 9 due to pace of play. Took about 3:10 to get thru. They booked an outing on a Sunday morning. The pro shop then tried pinning it on a starter. Shame on them.
