My issue was with one of the cashiers. Her name was Carmela, an older woman, heavy set, dark hair, wears glasses and appears to be of Italian descent. She told me she was closed as she was finishing up a purchase with a customer. I proceeded to go in another lane. Then I saw the cashier Carmela take 3 or 4 other customers after me. They were all of white/Caucasian descent. I am a woman of color. This appeared to be blatant discrimination, as no manager told her to reopen her line, her lane light was off. She decided on her own accord, which customer she wanted to take after she told me she was closed. I looked at the cashier and she mumbled something under her breath. I asked her name and then I went to the manager Peter and told him my experience. He said he doesn't believe that to be the case, as he has worked with Carmela for years and she doesn't have a racist bone in her body. He the proceeded to say he wasn't taking up for her and that he would go talk to her about the incident directly. I believe this particular location needs to have some diversity training done as this isnt the first time I have gone in the store and was made to feel uncomfortable due to racial microaggressions from the staff. I see several other google comments below stating similar discriminatory experiences from the staff there. I alerted Total Wines via their survey and hope that something will be done. I am posting this for future reference for other people of color to be made aware if they have similar experiences there. It may be that this location may need to be boycotted of our services since it appears our green money isn't good enough if it is coming from a person of color. Unfortunately hitting businesses in their pockets is the only way things like this are taken seriously as we see from past history to this very day.

I am in utter disgust with the unfair treatment and arrogant demeanor of the staff at this location - I was just here today to purchase drink supplies to celebrate my birthday, and was aggressively embarrassed by the disgraceful cashier who began to yell “ID CHECK - ID CHECK” out loud for the whole store full of shoppers and other staff to hear as they all chuckled and gathered around to check my ID as my young appearance was apparently “off putting” according to the group of cashiers who thought their actions and comments were funny which is ultimately disgusting and discriminatory as I am MORE THAN of age. While all of the staff was gathered, they then began to ask my younger sister that was with me for her ID (she is only 12 - obviously she wouldn’t have one) in which they then refused to service me saying that the whole party needed to show ID. This location should be ashamed of themselves.
I’ve never heard of these estranged “policies” that they mentioned - as there is no NJ law stating that EVERYONE in the party has to present ID.
Needless to say, I will NOT be back.

Horrible policy. If you go inside the store with your grandmother OR ANYONE to buy wine just be prepared to be turned around because they provide service for people/groups/parties if EVERYONE can provide ID even if you’re not buying. It doesn’t make sense. Store is not worth it at all. It’s scum.

Usually here just for the beer, ok selection.
I've found the staff here very knowledgeable when it comes to wine. What i find most helpful are the posts that the staff put out for their favorite wines, I've discovered a lot of new red wines this way that I might not have tried in the past, but seeing a recommendation from someone who works there is a really good idea
