This Lidl location is great. - 4 self checkout lines - beer/wine (tiny liquor section)- aisle of shame is huge. It's 4 aisles of shame. - I'd say 95% of the time the items I came for are in stockFor those of you complaining, you have to acknowledge that low prices come with understaffing. Help us all out and put your carts away in the parking lot, be ready with your card out at the checkout and don't try to haggle at the register. Get in and out. If you are not part of the solution then you are the problem and should be shopping elsewhere.

This is the third Lidl’s I’ve shopped in. I’ve gone to the Garwood and Eatontown stores frequently. But the Union store is the closest for us.This Saturday evening I was disappointed with the quality of the Union store because sale items that I came for, the butter and the smoked salmon were totally out of stock. I did pick up the German Christmas cookies that we enjoy each year and the canned vegetables for $.50 a can -what a bargain. I look forward to the opening of the Scotch Plains store, which will be not only the closest Lidl, but one of the closest grocery stores for me.

I love this place because of the prices and the variety. It's clean and organized. I can find food and decor and supplies for the house. The only thing is they should really have more cashiers available when it gets busy.

The cashier Kirsten was very informative on the best ways to save money in the store. The manager was also friendly and welcoming. Thanks you guys. ✌?❤️

If you've not tried Lidl yet, you won't be disappointed. My husband was German and I used to love this store when in Germany. So happy they are popping up around here more! It's like a little nicer Aldi with on site bakery that really reminds of some of the little German village bakeries.

Love this place!!! This is the only place I buy fruit/veggies they're always fresh doesn't taste as if it was frozen and thawed like the other places. Reasonable prices and good customer service. Now the only thing I don't like is they'll give you a credit for your returns instead of the original form of payment.

Always clean, food is good, return policy is not good. But i like the variety, and it had great options for working moms. Quick easy meals.

It's a nice place to get groceries. A huge space with a good quantity of food products, household items, cookware, and miscellaneous items, all for a great low price. A huge selection at the bakery brings wonderful smells into the air.The only downside, in my opinion, is the location. Terrible traffic to the location.

"If Ikea was a grocery store with a dollar store isle."Ikea comparison is fair, dollar store comparison unfair but Lidl does have bins of non-food household items which to me seem 'dollar store-ish' but items are not a dollar. Low-cost yes, but not a dollar.Ikea comparisonLike Ikea, you will most certainly feel excitement or possibly disoriented by the European feel and layout of Lidl.Front of the store is floor to ceiling glass front (and it's a very high ceiling) you might experience in a high end auto dealer. Isles are wide-wide-wide! I have no doubt you could drive a car through the Lidl store isles they are so wide.Similar to Ikea and counter to US supermarkets there are large, modern, very clean bathrooms located at the entrance complete with water fountain. My experience with US supermarkets is that bathrooms are hidden in corners, on the edge of what you call clean and often single toilet unisex. As this comparison suggests, Lidl is a very different supermarket.Right beyond the bright, window entrance is a bread and pastry case. They have a really neat bread slicer you can use to slice your whole loaf of bread and choose between three different slice thicknesses, it's very cool. I've also seen jelly donuts, pretzels, turnovers and various other pastries. The produce section is pretty nice too. I did reach for a softish head of broccoli which I declined to purchase but still a lot of other nice produce selections. I have seen rainbow carrots - yes, orange, yellow, red purple carrots - where else could you buy this? I didn't find it on my last visit but appreciated Lidl stocking this item.No fresh deli, cheese or fish counters, everything is in refrigerated or frozen bins. You'll may notice employees stocking shelves, similar to what you might find at Trader Joes, the key difference and a simple approach that keeps stocking items simple and quick, many items remain in their shipping boxes, employees just cut the top and viola, products are on the shelf. To summarize, Lidl provides a differentiated shopping experience from most US groceries, prices are very reasonable. You could shop nicely for one to four people with some bulk items available but seems to be geared towards medium to small families. They do sell beer and also household items.

Very nice supermarket in Garwood. You walk in to the produce section with the baked goods right there to tempt you with their offerings. We got some of the apple croissant bites - - excellent and great price! It's only the second time I've ever been to a Lidl so I mostly just looked around. But I got a nice whole chicken, some vaccum sealed organic grass fed beef, and butter. Everything seemed reasonably priced and they had regular brands as well as some unusual ones plus their own Lidl brand. (They had Duke's mayo!) Still, it didn't feel like they had as good a selection as Shoprite or Stop and Shop.None of the Lidl stores are close to us so I probably wouldn't go out of my way just to maybe save a few cents.

I traveled to visit this Lidl, one of 2(?) in NJ with beer and wine, and was disappointed. I was hoping for a place like Trader Joe’s (Princeton & Westfield) which has a nice variety of beer and wine I like under $10. Lidl’s variety is extremely limited and I saw mostly products I see at any NJ liquor store (Barefoot, primarily). In other states, maybe they do better. It is spacious with wide aisles, and not many customers (on Easter Sunday). Some products are competitively priced, if you’re signed into the Lidl app to get the discount. It’s like Aldi, with even fewer German sounding named products. At least you don’t have to insert the quarter into the shopping cart connecting chain.

Quick in and out to get milk, "quick in and out to get milk" couldn't help perusing the periphery of the entire store aka refrigerated and frozen sections. Delighted at the selection of products. Non-perishable Kosher section was abysmal (laughable) as is typical. BUT while browsing the frozen section for a delicious kosher treat I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon something I was convinced to be an Ikea exclusive, the almond chocolate caramel daim cake! That cake is delicious and at only $6 an amazing deal. The prices at lidl are very affordable, only one employee in the entire store that I saw last night at around 8pm. Shout out to that employee hustling to check everyone out while also monitoring the self check out, you deserve a raise sir.

A better option of buying items at a reasonable price. It may not be the brand I was looking for but being on a budget this has options to get a substitute with a lower price. They have some brand items too on the ongoing market price. Lots of selection and spacious area that you don't feel crowded while going through your grocery list. I'm still giving it a 5 stars although shelves / freezers /fridge can be restocked. Overall been here a few times and I always leave happy with my purchases.
