I recently had a disappointing experience at Spark Toys today and wanted to share my thoughts. This review only reflects the customer service, specifically an employee named Teo. The merchandise is fine, and I have had several positive experiences on prior visits.My 3-year-old and I arrived at the store at 3:40 PM, and the back door entrance was locked. I initially thought the store was closed (on Google, Saturday closing is at 5:30 PM), but after looking into the window, I noticed two customers in the building. A customer finally let us in after waiting two minutes outside in the rain. Immediately when we stepped into the toy store, Teo mentioned that the store was closing early due to the rain and that she didn't want to get wet from the rain (it was raining all day today). I explained to Teo that we would grab something quickly and be on our way, but the employee stated they were closed. I was perplexed as two other customers in the store were waiting to purchase their items. I could have easily picked out an item quickly and been on our way.Teo's lack of professional courtesy and tone in this instance was frustrating. My three-year-old started crying her eyes out and became frustrated. I tried calling the store afterward to reason with Teo, but she was very combative.I was disappointed with my experience. I hope that the management team can take steps to improve their customer service moving forward. We ended up having to drive 20 minutes to the Mont Clair Toystore.

Great little toy store. They have all the unique toys you won’t find at the big box stores. Great find!

I found this toy store totally by chance, and the customer service is great! They have a great selection of toys. I was able to order over the phone, they wrapped it for a birthday gift, and did curbside delivery! the staff were so helpful and made the process very easy.

The toy selection was okay. I wish it was organized in a way that was more clear based on age. Unfortunately, the staff was unwelcoming and seemed bothered by my request for assistance. Maybe it was because we came in around 3:15 & they closed at 4. It was obvious that they were probably ready to go. Either way, I didn’t feel like they wanted to help. We were still able to find what we needed & they do offer free wrapping which is appreciated— that is the only highlight.

I went here for some Christmas shopping last year, and I will definitely be doing so again this year! A wide selection of toys and games across a wide age range, good prices, kind interactions and helpful recommendations, and gift wrapping as well!

Sparkhouse is a great local toy store with a wide variety across ages. They have a good selection of unique games and puzzles you may not find in a big box retailer. Each time we stop by we find a unique item we haven't seen elsewhere, you get the feeling that each item is selected with a purpose in mind. On our recent visit we found a nice book of ballet stories and a STEM experiment set. Definitely a go to shop when in South Orange.

Great place to go if you have no idea what you're looking for! Millions of really cool and obscure toys, crafts, balls, jewelry, temporary hair dye!, and then you get to the register and find even more cool stuff! Highly recommended. Great staff and the owner Mike is very passionate about what he does!

This is the best toy store. Really high quality toys for very fair prices and free gift wrapping. They always have great gift suggestions as well.

Sparkhouse is the best toy store we’ve ever been to. The inventory is so well curated and they offer so many unique items. It’s our go-to for every birthday party and they offer FREE wrapping!! It’s fun seeing the signature Sparkhouse wrapping paper on the majority of the gifts at SOMA birthday parties. It’s such a classic local toy store; we love it!
