Live in Upstate New York. Needed to drive 4 hours to this shop. I looked at then test drove for 10 miles a used car they were advertising and selling. Purchased in cash the car by my 16 year old son. Used a car dolley to tow the car back home 4 hours. Took the car to my mechanic to look over and give it a New York state inspection. To my surprise my 16 year old son was punched in the throat by this shady shop call Colonial Motors. We were told that they put a lot of money into this car to make it legally safe and drivable. They told us this car would be a great vehicle for him. Safe and reliable. Once the car was put on the lift by my mechanic he noticed the rear tires were dry-rotted on the inner side walls. Something I would not be able to inspect without having it on a lift. Further inspection of the vehicle he found that they cleared the codes of the catalytic converter. What this means is they try to hide the fact that the catalytic converter was bad and needed to be replaced. When they clear the codes and I test drove the car for 10 miles no engine light would appear. This replacement part alone is over $2,000. Said and done I had to spend over $2,500 to get this car legally safe and drivable for my 16 year old son. It's a shame he saved up money for over a year to purchase a car and be shafted by this shop.****** TAKE THIS UNDER ADVISEMENT! I WOULD NOT DO BUSINESS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WITH COLONIAL MOTORS. DO NOT PURCHASE OR REPAIR ANY VEHICLE WITH THIS SHOP! USE MY MISTAKE AS YOUR WARNING******

Great small business to work on diesel trucks. They did a lot to diagnose and fix my ailing Chevy 2500 diesel.

Brought my sons 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee a few weeks back that needed some engine and front end work. Phil was honest about what was wrong with it and what it would cost. I gave him the go ahead to do it all which would have run us about $1800. After completing some of the repairs, he called me and said "I don't think you should spend the money on the rest of these other repairs because it's not going to make it run any better and its safe to drive without replacing the struts." He basically gave away about $850 worth of additional repairs because he knew we were tight on money and this was something that could be repaired in 6 months or so, if we wanted. The car drives great for a 15 year old vehicle. Wish there were more people out there like Phil.

Repair shop- DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I was there to look at a car for sale and asked if they work on mufflers. Before I knew it they were putting my car up to look at it. The mechanic showed me what was wrong and I agreed...he seemed nice. Then the guy who runs the garage looked up the part I needed, tried to sell me additional parts and then told me he was going to charge me for the evaluation. I can’t believe I gave him $60. Of course I found 2 other places that were cheaper and nicer so I got it done elsewhere. I hope they make enough on charging people for estimates that they can pay the mechanics. Apparently it’s not enough to keep the place clean.

I came in with a tire that kept losing air. It turned out that it had a bad sensor. They wanted to charge me $94 for the part and roughly $110 for the labor. I knew that was too much, so I went outside and called another mechanic to see what they would charge. The other mechanic said they charge $75 for the part, and $15 for the labor, standard. When I came back inside and asked for them to put the tire back on, all of a sudden the man offered to take $40 off the price, which still would have cost me significantly more than the $90 the other mechanic ended up charging me.

I got into an accident recently. Colonial Motors were called by the police to tow my car. The lady in the office was very helpful and everything was taken care of hassle free. Great service!
