So incredible to our family in adopting our first. I can't recommend them enough. And if you can't look past tattoos to see the value in people and staff, then maybe the problem isn't with SAVE.

The shelter makes it difficult to adopt and does not treat people very well. There are very good people who work there and take good care of the dogs and cats, but when it comes to interacting with the people who want to adopt or foster, there is much room for improvement. My primary complaint is that they seem to be looking out for their own self-interests more than the interests of the families who want to foster or adopt.

A warm shelter to find and adopt cats and dogs. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Many beautiful cats in need of care. Reasonable prices for quality health care.

we just adopted an adorable little kitten from here. everyone here was super friendly and clearly genuinely cared about the animals. multiple people came to say goodbye to the kitten when we left with her. the building looked spacious, clean, and very well-maintained as well. we’ll definitely come back here when we’re ready to adopt more into our family

The lady at the front with tattoos on Saturday really rubbed me the wrong way. I really miss the old location, staff, and procedures. This way is not beneficial for the animals in my opinion. I’m so happy that Charlie found his forever home and thrives. Wont be returning sadly.

The adoption process was very smooth. The kittens we adopted are healthy and have good personality. I highly recommend to adopt from SAVE.

I've been a volunteer at SAVE (off and on) for many years, and had adopted our Ginger from the Princeton facility in 2011. After we said goodbye to Ginger, I was bereft. And then came Rouga (now Mike), whom we took home Sunday. He's a joyous soul, a big personality in a small body. But what's even more wonderful is the people of SAVE, who made the entire process so easy. Lisa in particular was fantastic, making sure we were equipped with everything we'd need to make him comfortable, reminding us of what we'd need to do and just being so positive about everything. I can't imagine a better experience. Thank you!

How is this place still in business??? It needs to be shut down. We had such a miserable experience with the people here! We offered to foster a dog that was clearly in distress at the shelter. We met the dog, who we were told had issues with men, had issues with other dogs. They did not specify. After meeting the dog--no issues--we went downstairs so that I could sign the paperwork. Which meant that I READ the paperwork. An entire gaggle of hens emerged--so anxious--and oblivious to the fact that we ALREADY had our discussion, the decision was ALREADY made that we were going to take the dog home. I was later told that "the man was listening, but you weren't." The "man" wasn't reading the papers and signing them, as they require--I was! Anyway, the dog was WONDERFUL!!! He started to relax and give up his nervous mannerisms very quickly. He was a young dog with a lot of energy. So, I wanted to exercise him. I bought a ball with a pitching wand at the pet store, and tried to figure out where we could take him. We went to the dog park, hoping that there would be an empty fenced in area. There was. This dog just wanted to play with the other dogs. Since I didn't know him that well, I didn't want to set him loose in the other area where the dogs were running. So, one woman who said her dog was very friendly and would present no issue, felt sorry for our dog, and brought him over to meet. They were in heaven! This dog had the time of his life!!! That evening I was so ecstatic at how well everything was going, that I made the mistake of sharing this info (although I was NEVER told not to bring him to a dog park, and there was nothing in the paperwork that said not to bring him to a dog park or keep him away from other dogs.) The woman immediately started freaking out. The next morning I get a call from the manager saying I needed to bring the dog back NOW. I said I would bring him back later in the day. SHE CALLED THE POLICE AND MADE A FALSE CLAIM THAT I REFUSED TO RETURN THE DOG!!! When I did return the dog, when I took him out of the car and he saw where he was, he immediately went into his stress behavior that he had when he was there before, but which he had given up in our care. I wrote a letter to the Board. I never received a reply. I got a call from Heather, the director. I said that they needed to fire the manager who made a false report to the police. She said she couldn't just do that, that there were procedures that needed to be followed. Since then, walking in the neighborhood, (I live fairly close to the shelter), I heard several other horror stories. We were also traumatized by the experience, and would NEVER do business with them again. But, THIS PLACE NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!!!!

A Traumatic Experience that has tainted our feelings towards adopting from a rescue. I wish I could provide all the details of this dreadful, 6 week foster-to-adopt experience. These people held-back vital information. Each time I interacted with a different staff member another negative issue was revealed. Even with his "fatal flaws," we decided to work with him. We really wanted to help a dog in need and had experience with his particular challenges. We spent a considerable amount of dedicated time and money on weekly training, treats, etc. After notifying Lisa of our intent to adopt, a short time later they demanded we return the dog via an unprofessional phone call, from Pamela, and Julie. We tried to communicate with Save, and were ignored. No one from SAVE seemed to be interested in how he was actually doing in our home. I sent an e-mail to Heather, Executive Director giving details of our progress and his improvements. She just gaslighted me. My husband sent a letter to the president-board of trustees. He did call him and say he would look into it. He did call back and said they could not adopt this dog to us because he has a "high prey drive." (It took them 6-weeks to figure this out)? They knew this from day one! We are emotionally exhausted from this experience. We were used and abused by Save! We were halfway through the most difficult period of welcoming a new dog into the family. We were bonded and becoming a close-knit family. It is completely disgusting how dismissive and cruel the staff is here!

If giving a rating of 0 stars was an option, I would give them 0. We had been in conversation with them for over 3 weeks discussing a particular cat just for us to come in and have them tell us that we're not the "right fit" for the cat. We're all people of color (2 Black people and one Hispanic person) and they were so so racist and ableist. At one point, Lisa proceeds to tell me that the cat isn't a good fit for me because as a person with a documented disability, I would need emotional support and so how could I provide emotional support to the cat. Absolutely awful and rude as hell. If you're a person of color, do not go here, it's not worth the mental torment

We adopted a cat prior to Christmas from this shelter. The staff were all extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the personalities of the cats. Everything was clean and the animals looked well taken care of and healthy. We did need to schedule an appointment to come to the facility which worked out well since we had a staff member with us that provided helpful advice throughout the appointment. We ended up taking home our new family member that day and could not be happier.

I just came there because I wanted to make a big donation of food, clothes, dog bowls, beds etc being my dog passed away and I had a lot of stuff all in great condition, new, and clean. The lady I asked who worked there while I was driving in was so beyond rude and unfriendly. I explained that I had these things to donate and shortly she said, you can just leave them on the bench and I will take them later. No thank you or how can I help you. Are you kidding me? That is so unprofessional and rude. It was very hard to lose my beloved dog of so many years. Donating this stuff made me feel good because I would be helping other dogs in need. I would have also considered adopting from SAVE as do want another dog. However, after how incredibly rude and unprofessional that staff person was, I drove our and left nothing. Which is a shame. I would have even loved to have left a monetary donation but I will now donate and go somewhere else. Perhaps you should speak with your staff person. Someone comes to donate our of the kindness of their hearts, try being a friendlier. Disgusting!

SAVE is an incredible rescue to work with!! Their staff is friendly, knowledgeable and they care deeply for the animals that they have there. The team works closely with volunteers to ensure their safety, which is very important for everyone involved. They help socialize their dogs and make sure they have a chance to become their best selves, making them even more adoptable. As a volunteer at Trenton Animals Rock/ Trenton Animal Shelter, I can't say enough amazing things about this team. They took in some of our pups when the shelter was full, and have helped those same dogs blossom in ways a city shelter simply couldn't.If you are looking to adopt, especially from a rescue, please keep in mind that they are always looking to try and find the best fit for your family as well as for each animal, as they all have their own quirks and needs. Being realistic about what your home life is like will ensure you find the right pet. Taking a pet home who requires a ton of activity and simulation, if you/ your family have a more sedentary lifestyle, may mean that it could be a bad fit and lead to them being returned. Bored pups can get into trouble.

SAVE is simply amazing. The cleanest shelter ever with a deeply caring staff, one of which I know, and she's just as much of a crazy dog lady as I am!They not only care about placing animals in safe, happy homes, but they care about how the dogs fit into the adopters' lives, and any animals who already live in the home. The adoption certificate I received a week later was also a nice, thoughtful touch.Hershey not only came with collar, leash, harness, toys, food, and emergency pet insurance for the first month he was home, but he had also just been groomed a week earlier by a groomer who donates her time. When I adopted my last dog from a different shelter, I received nothing - not even a collar - and she smelled horrible (and they had JUST microchipped her, even though she'd been there for two weeks, so I couldn't get her groomed for two days and had to deal with the awful stench).REVIEW OVER, but here is my story to show just how caring and awesome they are:I lost my dog in 2018 and moved to NJ shortly after. My circumstances were such that I couldn't get a new dog right away, but I ended up caring for my sister's dog, Darla, for the last six months of her life. When I found out she only had a short time left, I was so worried about the grief of coming home to an empty, dog-less house as I had three years before, that I looked for a dog and saw Hershey. I gasped when I saw him - he is simply stunning and adorable (see pics).I took Darla to meet him and the staff said that they weren't the right fit for each other. They introduced us (Darla and me) to a couple other dogs and we decided I would come back the next day without Darla. The next day, they called and said that they thought about it and talked about it for a long time and decided it wasn't best for Darla, and that I would have to wait until she passed.I reached out a month later after she died and luckily, Hershey was still there! I couldn't believe he was because someone else was going to meet him as I was leaving on my first visit and he was so gorgeous, I was sure he'd be snatched up. I went to meet him more formally and that was it. We fell in love and I took him home right away!!!Another thing to drive home how great they are at match-making: Hershey had already been adopted out and returned for certain behavioral reasons, so they decided he needed an experienced dog owner, which might have been why he was still there. They knew I had a dog sitting business and had extensive experience with all kinds of dogs and behavioral issues.I am so grateful that they made me wait until the time was right, because I was acting on emotions, rather than what was right for me, Darla, or Hershey. It was meant to be, so it worked out perfectly!
