I visited Williams Sonoma in short hills, NJ four years ago and I have been waiting for this long before I post a review because I don’t usually post negative reviews that could hurt the retailer’s business. My experience with Williams Sonoma and their associated retailers have been consistently bad over the years that I have decided to speak against their racism. Let me start with Williams Sonoma in short hills. I visited the store along with my 2 yr old kid and my husband and we were the only colored family who were at the store at that time. We could immediately sense the salesmen getting wary of our entry and we could see them alerting each other with eye contact. To make things worse my toddler who still didn’t have a good balance knocked on a stainless steel item while toddling around the isles which made a noticeable noise. I could clearly see a salesperson alerting another to keep an eye on us and the salesman who was appointed with the task started following us wherever we went. Under the disguise of fake politeness, he made sure he did his part to make us feel very uncomfortable. Needless to say, that was my first and last visit to Williams Sonoma. Though it felt very insulting to see someone assume that we are there to steal something just by our appearance (we were in appropriate attire for a store and in fact my husband was in informal business attire), we decided to let it go.Few months later, we went to Crate&Barrel and experienced the exact same thing (salespeople hovering all over us leaving everyone else in the store alone). Trust me, if they had treated us the same way they treated all other customers at the store that time, we would have bought a $5000 solid wood breakfast table we loved in that store. Our experience in Pottery Barn hasn’t been so bad but West Elm showed their elitism. My intention here is not to brag about our affordability, we would fall under upper middle class category and we are a family of engineers. We have no reason to steal anything from these stores. Their well hidden racism hurts and we have decided NEVER to shop in these stores ever again.

I don’t leave reviews ever, but I could not help myself because of how awful the cashier was to my father and I. we did not even get the items we wanted because how how rude she was! she accused us of cutting the line even though there was no line to begin with, she tried to get us to go to the back of the line, again we did not cut a line and it’s like we are pre school aged children. my father put the two glasses down on the register and said “I’ll just leave these here” and she loudly said “YUP ILL HOLD THEM FOR YOU” and rolled her eyes. couldn’t have been more of an awful experience.

the consultant showed one price for forks, spoons, knives, at the checkout the cashier punches at a different price (much more expensive than on the price tag) Hmmm… ??

They have all the basics for a kitchen and reasonably well stocked with all their items and inventory. Although it is sometimes hard to find things, I was looking for a hand torch and it took them the better part of 10 minutes to find out where they put it on the shelf, and it turns out it was hiding behind some other boxes where I found it. Prices are a little bit higher, hopefully quality is, too, and we'll give that a test. Service was friendly and was greeted as I enter the store and when I had questions they put down what they were restocking and went looking for inventory for me. This is probably where I'll end up having to get some of the materials now that Bed, Bath & Beyond is gone. I do like their aprons that they can monogram with a person's name or initials as a gift for a chef.

Bought a set of plates here that had terrible quality and couldn't last a few weeks. We tried to talk to the store about it, the store manager here pulled every trick in the book to prevent from helping us. Denied quality issue, couldn't look us up in system, no one else complained (even though the first employee we talked to saw the plates and immediately said yea these have terrible reviews, but regardless, I don't think as a customer I need to wait for someone else to raise an issue first before I'm allowed to? lol). Atrocious customer service. They spend a lot of money on marketing to get you in there, but the products are mostly mass produced garbage, surface level "luxury" with no substance. Probably why they have to make return/exchanges difficult cause they can't stand behind their quality.

I just had the most bizarre conversation with an employee over the phone. Arguably the worst customer service and attitude I’ve ever experienced. I merely wanted clarification on an order email for pickup and instead of offering to check for me, or pass me to someone else who could assist, she told me to get to the store as soon as possible and just had an awful attitude. That’s not the point… a customer wants to avoid driving 30+ minutes to pick something up that may no longer be there. Disappointing from the brand. Everyone has bad days, but I was nothing but kind.

I brought holiday gifts here to exchange, and the cashier honestly made me feel like I was trying to scam him. The boxes were clearly from W-S, and they were shipped to me the same way I brought them back. I had an emailed gift receipt. Once he finally agreed to process the return for store credit (they didn't have the Le Creuset color I wanted for either item), he says to me, "Oh I have this name on the order, but I assume that's not you." What? Yes, it's me. I just told you they were gifts sent to me. I showed you an email gift alert with the order number. Why wouldn't my name be on the gift receipt? Then he tells me he's sending the credit as an e-gift refund. I ask if he needs my email address. "No, it's in the system." He tells me it's processed, but he has to go get the receipt printout from the back. In the interim, I check my email looking for the gift card. Nothing. He comes back, hands me a paper receipt for the refund. I ask, should I have received an email with the e-gift return you just processed? He tells me no, he can't do anything with it, and it will be sent *physically* to me in 14 days. What? I drove here intending to exchange these gifts, or spend whatever store credit I ended up with, and now you're sending me away with a piece of paper and 14 days to wait? I left the store, annoyed, and by the time I get to the parking garage I have a text and an email with my e-gift credit. Unbelievable. He either has no idea how returns operate or just wanted me out of the store. It was really inappropriate. I expected better from W-S.

Found the staff here extremely pushy, condescending , and off putting. Three people approached me to see if I needed help within moments of entering the store. I didn’t even have time to look around. They were not warm and pleasant, just kind of aggressive, and an instant turn off. The cashier looked at me like I was lower than life for attempting to return some Japanese knives that I did not like the weight and feel of - she seemed annoyed that I did not know that knives were not refundable (I still can’t find anywhere online or on my receipt that indicates that they aren’t). The manager was nearby, was kind, and easily approved the return. I have already purchased my next set of knives from a different store. The store was packed, I’m not sure why the sales people seem so desperate and miserable.

Anyone who needs something from William Sonoma Home, hands-down needs to see Patty. I’ve been trying to furnish my dining room for three months now, and I have not had one sales associate as patient, kind, and knowledgeable as Patty! We found the Montauk parsons dining table online, and absolutely loved it. Patty was so accommodating with our hectic schedule during the holidays and was available whenever we needed her. Not once did we experience one slight attitude from her unlike the other furniture places I’ve been to. Was able to meet her in the evening one night and we got everything that I wanted to order solved in one sitting. She was super patient with my two kids as well! Again, 10 out of 10 recommend her to all my family and friends! The GM Nicole was also very nice and accommodating. Had a great experience at this store.
