I thought long and hard about leaving this review and finally decided to. I had been going to Pete’s for years but after his passing and the daughter took over the store has gone downhill. My problem is two-fold for ever going back. 1, I have to drop my shoes off at a dry cleaner drop off in Haddon Heights - customers are no longer allowed at the store in Runnemeade and 2, I can’t talk with the shoemaker. My short saga: I brought a wallet it to have stains taken out of the leather: would have paid whatever to have it done. All that was done was it was polished. Ok, it looked better but still stained. I then brought in a pair of Clark’s rubber waterproof shoes.the glue was letting go and I wanted them reglued. I was told “they’d be a good as new”. I picked them up 2 weeks later, wore them twice and the glue was letting go so I brought them back. The lady said “you do realize Clark’s are not good shoes”. “We’ll do it one more time”. I asked if maybe they could rivet or stitch the sole- I’d pay more. Reply was “no”. Got them back two weeks later and with the second wearing, again the glue let go. She used a hard setting glue to seal two rubber pieces together. No flex in the glue at all. Does that make any sense??? So I guess if I want to continue dealing with Pete’s I have to deal with a dry cleaner drop off store and I have to settle for the new standard of quality from the shoe repair. I’d rather not. I work too hard for my money to spend it on unacceptable customer relationships.

These are tool scrape marks into my $500 ferragamos where they must of taken off old soles. These are not scrapes that existed before. I looked at where the new soles are attached and you can see the same pattern of scrape marks that would not exist from normal wear and tear. ..they run across where the new soles are attached (and somewhat expected) but not supposed to be on tip of shoes and noticeable. I am not happy. I am especially pissed off I had to pay up front before work was done. Avoid them. I had a cobbler in Philly tell me he would have charged me half the price and done much better work.

I had higher expectations for $100 worth of repairs on my Salvatore Ferragamos. We are two weeks past the ticket date and over a month past dropping the shoes off. Just got them back. The sole inserts are not wide enough and you can still see the inside of shoe, wider soles needed. Messy with glue, even on the side of shoe. The sole stitching could he cleaned up better. These were $500 shoes I bought in Lake Como Italy.... they could have been treated better as this strikes me as very rushed even when they had them for a month. I understand only one or two people are working and it takes a long time but don't ask for pre pay of 100% before any work is done because once I dropped that $100 my expectations are high and I expect them on time.

I give them 2 stars, rather than one or none, because the owner finally agreed to give back to me the amount I asked for when service wasn’t rendered as promised.
When I dropped them off, I was told they were very behind their usual schedule. I appreciated that and used that information to keep one pair I’d wanted repaired (needed them in less than 2 weeks). Dropped the 3 pair 05/08/24; told they’d be ready 06/04/24. I called 06/15/24 to see if they were ready. Nope. They’d had a hard time with one “heel replacement” (I wasn’t having any heels replaced, I realized later.) I got a call 6/17 that they were ready.
Two of the three were fine (not beautiful but fine given the age of the shoes). The third, new pair, was the issue.
I asked them to fix a portion of my sling back shoes that had a part of the back - at the heel - rubbed off. They said they could repair it, so I left them. When I picked them up, there was no repair, just looked like they’d rubbed shoe polish on the worn parts. The woven part (from under the top material) was still visible. (See pics) I paid $20 for shoe polish to be rubbed on a space less than 2 square inches! This is where I asked for money back.
The final part that really surprised me…
THEY DIDN’T POLISH ANY OF MY SHOES! I’ve never been to a cobbler/shoe repair that doesn’t take enough pride in their work to return the shoes to the customer looking amazing.
Definitely won’t be back - and the owner told me she was glad I wouldn’t be back.

I’m not exactly sure how to rate them, but I don’t think I would go back. I needed a zipper repaired in a small cloth travel bag. I prepaid for the work. The shop called after a week to ask for an additional $5. I said that was fine and I would pay that. Then they called and asked for an ADDITIONAL $5. Initially the shop said it would be ready in 3 weeks. After 5 weeks it STILL wasn’t finished. When I called at 6 weeks, I was assured they were going to START work within a week. The zipper they were replacing was yellow. I was assured the replacement would be yellow. THE REPLACEMENT IS CLEARLY GREEN.

Lived up to the reviews I read here. Did take a long time (2 1/2 weeks) for a purse repair (the shoulder strap had pulled off the body of the bag) but they were very nice people to deal with, the work was good quality and the price was quite reasonable ($15.)

I had an awful experience with Pete's - to begin, it took probably 8 weeks before I got my boots back. When I did pick up my boots, they had been butchered. I took them in for a new Vibram sole to be added, the midsole was torn up, the leather welt and vamp were cut up, and they tried to fill the cuts up with polish. They ruined a $400 pair of boots. I wouldn't take anything you value here.

I’ve been going to Pete’s for years for spit shines on all of my work boots! Recently I needed my bates chukkas re-soled and spit shined for a ceremony coming up (PS they don’t make these shoes anymore currently). I also need the right shoe buckle completely replaced as it was falling off. I dropped them off last Saturday and was told to give them a week! Sure enough I called today to check on them and the pictures attached are the finished product. Literally brand new shoes with a beautiful spit shine and edge dressing! Definitely recommend!

Part of choosing a store should be investigation. I failed to read all of the reviews regarding this establishment. I dropped off a leather jacket which needed a new zipper in late February. I was told it would take a couple weeks. I called back a couple weeks later, and they said it was scheduled to be fixed in a couple more weeks, meaning it will take two months to fix. it is now late May and I have called multiple times With the excuse that they are really behind. No apologies, no due date, not even a return phone call when told, I would receive one with more information. I am going to retrieve my jacket and put it in the closet because it is a little too late to start wearing it. Until this business becomes more receptive to the needs of his patrons, I cannot recommend it.

I hade my boots resoled about a year and a half ago through them. They had to do a basic combination foam and rubber sole replacement. The foam used was pieced together instead of being a solid piece. It also was twice as thick which made the boot look clunky. The uppers where damaged by sander and the marks and were crudely covered up by what looked like glue and wax. The boots also squeak while walking now. To top off the slop job they cut the stitching on the upper (stitch down construction) and removed the mid sole. I must of missed it because sole is all black. So they glued everything together and hid the fact that the sole wasn't stitched back on. Removing 90% of its strength. The reason I know this is because the sole is coming off revealing all the little details of this slop job. If you have nice shoes avoid.
