Ok may be not as big or good as the big H, but this place has charm of it's own when it comes to sea food & fresh fruits/veggies.Monk fish & skates were $4/lb. That mind you is cheaper than beef & far healthier. Oh, sashimi rice (회덥밥) is still $12, which is like $20 at specialty places. Ok, the fish is double left over & it shows, but even at specialty places is only marginally better.

Every time I go, there is only one cashier open and looks like ghost town building inside. Where is everyone? Their tofu is fresh!

Me, my wife & her friend was at H & Y mart in Ridgefield on Sunday evening for trim & filet the flukes which we caught that day.The seafood dept clerk was sitting behind the counter & there were no customers near us as usual.A male grocery manager approached me & asked: "Why so many?" Don't bring anymore fishes next time because, it's interrupting us. I replied, "yes" with an apology.When I came back to pick up 90 min later, the male manager was waiting by the door & reprimanded me again. "I don't need an apology, just don't comeback!"The seafood dept clerk was only able to trim 11 flukes out of 18. He asked me to come back tomorrow to finish up. Since I was going for fishing again on Monday, I asked my mom & my sister to bring the rest of the fishes to be trimmed/fileted.They were at the cashier to pay for the items after they pick up the trimmed fishes. Then, head of the manager(female) approached & they started to gossip.Suddenly, the male grocery manager appeared & told her that they are the same people who were here yesterday!Then, the female manager started to yell at my 70 year old mom in front of everyone at cashier. "I pay the clerk to do our work not yours", "Don't you ever comeback anymore with fishes!"About a year ago, we got an approval for trimming fishes from the seafood manager as long as we tip the clerk.My mom & my sister wanted to refund the items that they bought but, my mom wanted to leave right away.If I could give 0 star, I would. I've lived in NYC for more than 16 yrs before I move to NJ 17 yrs ago.H & Y mart in NYC runs much better than NJ; therefore, there're many more customers too.I'm furious that the head of the store had to embarrass my mom like that in public. They need to learn manners & pay more respect to the elders & their customers!I did & will spread the words to everyone I know- friends & family. If I had time, I'd like to the picket in front of the mart to boycott.

I've driven past this place hundreds of times. We were honestly about to go to H Mart down the street instead, but we decided to turn in and give it a try.For a saturday afternoon it was very empty. Upon entering into the market, everything is placed well, and very clean. There were a lot of sample stands, every lady tending to it, was very friendly. We bought some fresh fluke from the seafood, had it fileted. Which we cooked immediately when we got home, it was very fresh, and good quality. We got other fish and shellfish from the seafood dept, so far so good. Everything looked like it was cleaned well and of good quality. The prices were also very reasonable.We bought a bunch of meats as well, mainly due to that the prices were very good. We also cooked some marinated bulgogi at home, it was very good.My son wanted a snack, so we bought some freshly made taiyaki from the kiosk near the entrance. It was very reasonably priced, and very good. They had a OREO flavored which was surprisingly good. Their red bean filling is also very good.We went in with little to no expectations, and we were pleased with H&Y. The employees are friendly, the store is clean, it has everything that H Mart has. We will add this market into the rotation of our marketplaces.

It’s alright, they have less stuff compared to the Hmart nearby but hanyang sometimes have deals which makes for a convenient stop.
