The old white man at the front desk is very disrespectful and does not know how to talk to people. He talked to us as if we were stupid and didn't understand what he was saying to us. Very poor customer service on his part, the younger black women on the other hand was very nice to us. Rahway please do better.

The experience I had there with the swimming program was a nightmare….I sometimes used to hear some ppl say good things about YMCA, that’s totally not what I experienced there….I unfortunately regret going there. It was just not what I expected and I was extremely unsatisfied with a LOT, waste of time and money !

Horrible Horrible! I paid close to 500 dollars for swim lessons for my kids just for them to keep canceling because they were short staffed. They told me they would refund my money back in Sept! Its now November! No refund yet just the run around about technology errors. Do not waste your time here. Oh and I registered my kids for the previous session just for us to come in and go to the pool and be told we were not registered for sessions. They actually came in and told us this in front of other members. How embarrasing and they were WRONG! I had to show them my bank acct with the payment for them to see that we did register. They then had to add a new slot fo my kids because they had given away our timeslot and were not even nice about fixing THEIR ERROR! Horrible. I wish I could give 0 stars!

A really horrible experience I signed up my daughter for after care this year on half days they did not watch the kids i had to call off work first 2 months of school was unavailable because they didn't have enough families to run the aftercare and it turns out when you sign a child up for aftercare you have to get a gym membership so i have to pay for july even though school is over and you need to go in person to cancel the only gym in NJ that you need to go in person to cancel in person also you have to give them 30days notice to cancel said the receptionist Maritza she wouldn't give me her last name when i asked to speek to someone higher up she said that its only her and a coworker so unprofessional and spammy i would not recommend this place to anyone non profit my butt its a joke

I honestly don’t recommend anyone to go to YMCA. I was going to Rahway facility to use the pool and I found the water a little cold in many occasions. I was waiting to see if this was fixed, but it wasn’t. They mention a temperature pool in their website, but they don’t keep it at that temperature. I also notified the staff members about this, but I didn’t see a change. That’s why I decided to cancel my membership at that moment. So one day i called and I was directed to the YMCA director Leonardo from Elizabeth facility to cancel my membership, and it was not easy to speak with him. He told me that I would need to come to the facility to sign a paper and that I would be charged an extra month. I asked him, “how can you charge me an extra month if I am not happy with the service at YMCA??? I don’t want to come back.” His answer was “ I am sorry that’s the rule.” I was hoping he would understand my situation and let me cancel my membership. I felt I was forced to pay an extra month for a service I didn’t like. Can you guys believe this?

After care workers excellent ! Management skills not so much. We enrolled our daughter into the aftercare program in August that takes place in the cafeteria at the school. The first month ( September 2021 ) we paid in full however she didn’t start attending till October due to a staff shortage. When we came in person for the registration I provided my bank info for automatic pay. The receptionist clearly did not now what she was doing because I then get a phone call in the beginning of December MONTHS LATER that we have over an 800 dollar balance due to no payments ( we signed up for auto pay ) also that we apparently owe for September when the after care program wasn’t even in session. My question is how do we owe for the month of September when she was not even attending? Try to reach a manager but all you get is the run around and get transferred to a voicemail.

Won't let children go to the open swim just because we didn't have a draft membership.

Everything that's offered is done correctly! The variety of options are wide! The variety of facilities are great! There's so much to do! The instructors and the entire staff are all very helpful and friendly!!!

This rating is specifically to the kids swim program. The instructor (swimming director) does not know how to teach a child how to swim. How can you teach a child to paddle like a dog and expect them to learn freestyle that way? Save your money and go to another swim school for proper classes. Edit: After speaking to the program director, she did mention they do tend to combine classes. Both with beginners and non beginners. So if your child can swim, don't bother with the Y.
