If you have any memories of Hungarian cuisine from your childhood or from trips, you could be entertained here with all the important ingredients and ready made delicacies in surprisingly reach varieties compared to the size of the store. The sausages, the salamis, cold cuts and even their bakery products are impeccable. My rating is, no question, 5*.

One of the best meat centers in the area, especially price-wise. Very clean and organized store. Only $8.49 per Lb for Canadian Bacon, $6 per Lb for Tirolska salami & $12 per Lb for homemade spicy Hungarian sausage (none other place in the area has these cheap prices). Only one "small complain" is the price for the Hungarian PICK salami which has skyrocked and it costs $24 per Lb, it used to be $16 per Lb few months ago (but I guess the owner doesn't control the price since it's imported).

I came here for one thing : paprika szalonna. Aka Hungarian paprika bacon. But it's not really bacon as known in the states. And it's not easy to find. There's a place in Astoria that has it but this little meat shop in Passiac is better. How to eat paprika szalonna: You simply slice it and place it on rye bread. You don't fry it bc it's already cooked. The meat is tender and the paprika smoky. It's delicious. Trust me. The other way to eat it is to cut a square piece and pierce it with a stick to cook over a campfire. And have a piece of bread to catch the fat drippings. So I've heard. I never tried that but damn does that sound good ! I also got 2 links of smoked kolbasz. The thin ones that were hanging behind the register. I don't know the name but they are good. My brother calls them tv sticks. Bc , you know , you just hold one in your hand and chow down while binge watch Netflix. Think of it as a much better slim Jim. 2 for 8 bucks. The shop is a real hidden gem and family owned for decades. I love these shops. They close all July FYI! Yelp doesn't report that so don't go until they reopen in august.

The meat center is unique. Although the location is rough and the surrounding area is interesting, opening the door transports you back to an Eastern European butcher. The smell of garlic, paprika, cumin, grease, and smoked meats permeates the premises. Service is concurrently multilingual, prices are not bad, and the place worth a visit. While some of the sausages and meats are made in the store, there's a fairly large number from Bende and others making close to authentic Hungarian sausages. Their gyulai and cserkesz kolbasz -- particularly the spicy variations -- are to die for. The teperto is great. The bejgli is fine. The pogacsa can be all around the place. The virsli, debreceni, majashurka, and vereshurka are great. The sutnivalo kolbasz is probably the best I've had outside of Hungary.

Please beware of buying cold cuts at this store. They clean the machines with bleach then cut the cold cuts that you consume. I understand sanitary reasons but this is extremely harmful and not healthy. Would you drink bleach?
