Good car rental place with fair to low prices. Staff is friendly and were a pleasure to interact with.

3 people working, fine. The issue is you’d think they’re getting mortgage approvals because each person is at the counter for 25+ min. The wait time is disgusting. Avoid THRIFTY, hertz and the other car lines move 100000x faster no wait anywhere but here. Only book if you want to waste 90 min of your trip on the line to get keys.

Awful made a reservation online a month ago when we arrived at Newark Airport to get it we had to wait on their line to get the car for one hour, the rude worker said he had no cars no keys after we paid. I said, what are you talking about? He just wouldn't give me a clear answer. He told me I'll call you when I have one, meanwhile five people behind me got cars and keys, two times I went to the desk and said what am I waiting for? I have to be somewhere and I've been here for almost 2 hours. They said to me I told you we don't have any cars!, we will call you. So a woman there that worked in another car booth said why don't you go see the manager in the Hertz building, I did he got my car the exact one I wanted in five minutes I complained to corporate, and they never answered me. I will never rent from them again..

It should be a warning about how much a car rental at an airport cares about customer service when the building is nearly impossible to enter with luggage. This company can't provide the basic service that we look for in a car rental company. That would be a working car in the size class that they promise in your reservation. My flight was cancelled making me nearly 4 hours late to pick up my car. Not only did Thrifty give away my car, they had no more cars available in the size that I had reserved. Their answer was to give me a larger vehicle or make me wait indefinitely ("at least 2 hours") for a car to show up. I was already close to missing the main event that I came for, so waiting wasn't really an option. It's not unheard of for car rentals to misjudge and not have the right car. Usually, when they do that any upgrade fee is waived. Not Thrifty. Clearly, they do not value repeat business and they know that if you think that you're about to be a stranded traveler you will pay extra. I found myself stuck with and paying extra for a very large vehicle that was completely inappropriate for city driving. It didn't even fit in most parking places and cost a small fortune in gasoline. I wouldn't have chosen that oversized SUV at any price. I disputed the added charge with my credit card company. They "worked with" Thrifty and refunded the charge letting me know that they considered the issue resolved. Thrifty chose to send a bill in the mail! I would call that penny wise, pound foolish on the part of Thrifty. Whatever little discount might be available booking with Thrifty is not worth the ransom to avoid being stranded!

Came into the rental trailer at 11pm on October 30, 2023. A lady wearing a purple coat with matching glasses and nails comes out. She sets her cell phone adjacent to her monitor and appears to start steaming a video. She was maybe 50% engaged in the interaction and even at times paused for periods of 30 seconds when something interesting showed on on her phone screen. Normally I would say something, but it was within an hour of closing and I just wanted to get my rental and get out of there. Really painful experience giving my contact information to someone verbally who's focused on a video streaming. Mentioned this to the attendant as I left the lot and he said that they've had some bad new hires.

We waited 1 and 1/2 hours for our car! There was a huge line, so I guess it wasn’t their fault that half the population of New Jersey seemed to need a car at the same time. We did get a car- it smelled like smoke, but we were grateful for the car and we were luckier than some very dissatisfied Dollar rental people. Anyway, we got the car and we’re able to leave it and the key at 3:00 AM even tho it was closed. So it was slow, but thankfully reliable. It is cheaper than Avis and Hertz.

There was a very long wait. There was only one woman helping out. Many customers were waiting to get their rental. The wait was for an hour or so. Another employee walked in later on but did not improve the situation. It appeared to me she was having a bad day and making sure customers would know about it. She was extremely unhelpful, and she made everyone feel she was doing us a favor rather than being apologetic and comforting the waiting, frustrated, paying customers. She also showed no patience to those customers who had difficulty understanding her.

I am basically going to echo the other reviews. I did my research and diligently planned my trip for my honeymoon. I have never rented a car, so I'm a newbie. However, I am an adult and I know how to do math, so this should be straight forward. We experienced the toll road charge scam. $130 for the toll roads. "If you go to New York you need this" No, you don't. "you can't go on a toll road without it." Yes, you can. The vehicles come with a toll pass box. They have a daily fee plus the cost of tolls. So if you need to go on a toll road on a certain day, you can utilize it. If you are like us, you just avoid the toll roads. LESSON- YOU DON'T NEED THE TOLL OPTION. The other scam, we rented an E vehicle and we were told it would take 6-9 hours to charge. (My mistake was thinking I rented a hybrid so that's on me) We know nothing about E vehicles and are 1000 miles from home. They did not attempt to help or educate us. Just offered a more expensive vehicle, that I was very uncomfortable with driving. What choice did we have?? None. So we paid double what we expected and drove off in a car that I was terrified to drive in a city I am unfamiliar with. They were so rude and demeaning. Acted like they were doing me a favor by upgrading me. The service was horrible. Thankfully we called a different location after getting to our rental and the very kind, honest, professional woman helped us and fixed everything. LESSON- I will forever avoid renting a car at an airport. I will do my research and take other transportation to a reputable company. They should be ashamed. Say NO TO THRIFTY!

I booked online for their choice of a small car. When arrived it was a big truck. I'm 76 years old women who can't drive a large truck. I asked for a small car. Got one but doubled my cost.4 days 400.00 a true rip off! Never again!!!

The worst car rental experience I've ever had. After waiting over an hour and a half we are informed that there are no cars available and if we want something immediately we'll need to pay for an upgrade - ridiculous. That fee should be waived unless the customer wants to intentionally upgrade their vehicle - I needed a car asap since I was already running late, having waited 1.5 hours in line.Luckily the car itself was fine and the return process was easy. That is, until I was hit with a $70 fuel charge a few days later despite having returned the car full. I am now waiting for customer service to get back to me since there is no way to dispute this charge on their website and it is impossible to speak to a representative over the phone on account of their useless telephone customer service.Stay away from Thrifty, an unpleasant and unnecessarily difficult experience from start to finish.

Worst customer service experience. Christine, the customer service agent started blaming for being "sarcastic" about answering her question about "if I knew how to operate a EV". When she wouldn't tell me about charging stations nearby and whether any charging equipment would be supplied. Not professional, not helpful. That is never a way to talk to a customer. That is not how to win at business. Worst staff. I hope this improves.

The worst ever as in service! Here at 6:30 am and the lady behind the glass acts as someone from her family died today, I'm asking if all ok with her and she's telling me it's non of my business! Not sure why but I guess some people that's how they are unfortunately.

This location delivers the worst possible customer service, with a tremendous amount of pride. Upon pick-up, I stood as the only person in line, observing three workers discussing a cell phone image. The gentleman of the group looked directly at me and then continued to ignore me. He walked to the back without acknowledging me. After 5 minutes or so, I walked up to the counter. I asked the person assisting me how come they ignore me standing there. In the rudest tone possible, she responded, "Because you're not in line. The line starts over there", as she pointed to the left. Ignoring the fact that I was standing directly in front of them under a sign. She said, "That's for "Express"." Soooo you mean to tell me, you ignore your "Express" patrons? Ok. Moving forward, I had chosen the "Wild Card" selection. The image showed a car, with 4 doors, a trunk to hold 2 small bags and 1 large bag. She told me they were giving me a pickup truck. Now, I'm heading to New York City. Based on my past experience and the website's description, I expected I would receive a small economy size vehicle. It's not a big pickup. I asked if we could change it. Continuing in her rude tone and demeanor, I stated that our energy was off and that I would be better off working with someone else. She asked me to move to the side and called for the next customer. I told her it was not moving and that I would like to speak to a manager at that point. There's more to the story, but I will end with the fact that the manager was helpful.Thrifty reps are extremely rude and lack customer service training. Considering my experience in several cities and being deliberately hung up on when calling the customer service number, I can say with certainty that Thrifty Corporation encourages this behavior. If they review any of my calls and pull the video of my interactions, they will find that I keep a calm tone. There's no reason for a person like me to receive poor service.I will never book from Thrifty again, nor do I recommend them at EWR, PHL, or FLL. My experience has been consistently horrible. I was thinking that the service is different by location, but after my current experience, horrible service is clearly the unwritten part of their mission statement.

Insane, I’ve been in line waiting for a reserved car so far 1HR. This is nuts Jersey Thrifty has to do better than this. Going by reviews looks like we’ll be here easily another hour. Stay away from renting cars here.

Fool me one time with a 2 hour wait on a reserved car, shame on you. Fool me twice with 3 hour wait, shame on me! Don’t let the low price intrigue you! It’s not worth it. I learned my lesson ?
