If zero stars was available that’s what I would have rated Lakou Events. Terrible experience for me!The unprofessionalism, lack of leadership, mishandling and lack of business decorum showed to me was very disappointing especially from another black business.Let me start by saying I have been a caterer/restauranteur for twenty years and I have NEVER in my entirecareer been handled like I was handled with this establishment.Where do I begin!I booked our monthly women’s brunch finale for 2023 at Lakou to first and foremost spend my money with another black business which was extremely important to me.Booked the event in November based on the strength of the pictures available on the website which were fluffed because the space is severely outdated and does not give any luster or opulence of any kind. Which sadly for me I didn’t find out until two weeks prior to the event when I did a pop up visit for an open house evening they hosted. I was not pleased when I saw the space in person but still was willing to forge ahead especially since I was contractually bound and had paid my deposit. The young lady that handled the open house was very pleasant and took down all of our details to relay to the owner Eli. She also informed me that I would get a call the week before to go over logistics and schematics. She stated we were confirmed to come in and set up at 11am day of since there was no other events scheduled for the room we were in the Citadelle room. The one week mark came and went NO CALL from the owner (Eli). So I emailed him three days before my event with the room schematics and day of needs only to receive an email response back from him saying “oh yeah I was supposed to call you.” REALLY!Going back in forth in email with him that day only for him to let me know that he doesn’t have the banquet tables I need for my event in house. He offered me classroom tables (his exact words, verbatim). Make that make sense for me!I’m sorry you’re a banquet hall, why am I renting the space and now having to bring in tables! Mind you, I had already spent money on linens in the table size I requested which I shared with him and he made NO ACCOMMODATIONS!The next day … which would now be two days before to my event. I get a email from the owner stating that he has now scheduled another event in the room that I rented and we can’t access the room for set up until 12pm to decorate and set up for our contractually bound event time of 11am. Our event was scheduled to start at 1pm. I was LIVID.Here’s where the plot thickens the other event wasn’t an actual event at all it was he had a parental obligation that he needed to attend to, so the business at hand had to now take a back seat (witnessed with my own eyes). I’m sorry, I’m a paying customer handle me as such, that was unacceptable and unprofessional. We arrive day of the event which was 12/17/2023 only to be meant with several venue challenges literally just obstacles after obstacle! Not enough food tables, facility electric could not handle the little bit of equipment we had which was two buffet heat lights, two waffle irons and two small coffee urns. They provided (6) chafers with no base pans to hold the water provided or lids, we had to keep hunting him down for basic contractual needs. We were not prioritized or prepared for.I PAID for kitchen space …. YES I had to pay an extra $200 for a portion of the kitchen, which included a small oven and a trio of prep tables. Never in 20 years have I had to pay additional to use a kitchen to warm already prepared food in a venue I rented, but I did it. We had to keep asking for basics needs that should have been available for us such as trash bags and cans, like come on that should have been readily available.Next, our lighting request were not honored ..why ….because they didn’t work, to the point of an entire DARK stage in the front focal point of the room, it was a horrid eye sore!Just so many red flags! The owner took NO ACCOUNTABILITY or even apologized. It was a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE for me!

Had my wedding here 2 days ago and if I could give 10 starts I would. From the day I booked up until the wedding they have been phenomenal. ALL staff that were booked and I mean ALL (Owner, bartenders and bussers) were all friendly, professional, attentive, courteous, offered help wherever and whenever and came with a great vibe! I am beyond pleased at how well they performed. They even went as far as getting custom made T-shirts with my wedding hashtag & new last name on them for the staff to wear. The Space: great for private events but best for weddings for 70-140 guests. They have a huge parking lot, outdoor patio and gazebo, 3 rooms (big room, small room, bar room) and a large commercial kitchen with an in house caterer.I highly recommend Lakou Events!

I am a Event Planner/Decorator from Philadelphia and on Saturday, January 28th was my 1st time Decorating there. They were very professional. The owner and his staff Customer Service was 180%. Me and my staff were setting up and he overheard me say that I was hungry and went to get us something to eat and drink. The space is clean and the bathrooms are big and spacious. Literally everything is on site. I will be back and will be referring my Jersey customers as well as my family and friends to Lakou. Thank you for such great hospitality and service.
