I've used them twice and both times, they have been very honest with me about the situation and how much it would cost. Before expanding the work, they always called to explain the complication and to let me decide if I wanted to proceed. Beyond being honest, the father and son team were also really helpful, giving me advice on whether the repairs were necessary and what potential complications there were (its a really old car!). Everything they told me was backed up by a second opinion. I will definitely continue to bring my cars to Mac's.
