Whether you sit out on the patio (which is actually enclosed in the restaurant!) or in the dining room, the atmosphere is nice. Foid is reasonable & generous & tasty. Service is slow & inattentive (probably short-staffed)?

This place has an authentic style and decor reminiscent of so many places I'd been to in Mexico, and the atmosphere can be a little loud and raucous. But the food is well prepared and in particular very attractively plated. Nothing we had was unsatisfying, and it was nice to find a local Mexican place that serves a mole poblano; so many of them seem not to. Try this place!

Great salsa social every third Saturday of the month. Good dancers, spacious, always a good turnout. They usually have at least one performance as part of the social.

A place to let go and be yourself on the dance floor. The music and ambience is awesome. The best part of this place is there's enough room to be creative with your style of dance. You will not be disappointed with Casa De Salsa Social. See you there!

Extremely disappointed! We have eaten at this establishment on numerous occasions in the past and were overall pleased with the food and service, however last night was an utter abomination from start to finish. We had made a reservation ahead of time, upon arrival were greeted by a very confused server. After a while we were eventually seated. It took an absolute eternity for bus boys to arrive with water and chips / salsa. Finally our server arrived (later we discovered was the actual manager of the restaurant). The food was bland to say the least, certainly not worth the price. The service was terrible, slow and the server was very rude. From the moment she greeted us to requesting the check! After requesting to speak to the manager she announced that she was the manager, which quite frankly was laughable! She had no interest in listening to our complaint and adopted a very patronizing and condescending attitude. Give this place a serious wide berth - it's not worth it and has definitely deteriorated since our last visit - there are far better Mexican restaurants in the vicinity.

I really wanted to give Casa Piquin 3 1/2 stars because it is, in my opinion, somewhere between average and very good (TripAdvisor, how about including a "good" choice?). This is a subterranean restaurant that used to be a popular Italian place years ago. The room is showing its age, but Casa Piquin has done its best to create a festive south of the border atmosphere. The service was excellent the night we were there; three different servers were all friendly, helpful, and efficient. The food was good (though true aficionados may quibble over certain of the offerings) and in ample portions. I had tamales and my wife enchiladas after starting with quesadillas. The meals are served with rice and beans. The chips and salsa on the table were quite tasty. It is a BYOB (there is a liquor store a few doors down), and for those who don't know Montclair, parking can be a bit of a challenge. All in all our meal was satisfying. There are other Mexican restaurants in Essex County which are of a higher quality (artisan tacos and the like), but if you find yourself on Bloomfield Ave. in Montclair with an urge for Mexican food, Casa Piquin isn't bad.

Everything about this place appealed to us. It was lunch time so not very crowded yet, our server was attentive and friendly. The chips and salsa were perfect and each person in our group loved what they ordered. The portions were big enough for us to take some home to enjoy later. So good!

Food is really good and menu is too - prob best Mexican food I’ve ever had and service was good- BYOB is easy as there are two liquor stores on either side of the restaurant which are even open on Sunday’s- both within a one minute walk - server had a bottle and wine opener in her pocket Would definitely recommend the botana grande from the starter menu- it’s a sample platter - their beef in their quesadillas is so good - and they use that awesome white cheese on their nachos which is really good - guacamole is fresh Chips and salsa are really good - salsa is not too hot but not that mild either I prob won’t go back because they wouldn’t let me sit outside and it was sweltering down in there (Below street level)

The space is magnificent when you are there early. I wish I felt comfortable enough to stay throughout performances. Its way too hot and the floor is incredible sticky. I did LOVE all the different levels of dancers. It is the ideal spot to have our salsa communities come together.

Best Salsa Social in Jersey hands down. Beautiful venue with an awesome huge floor for dancing. Great dancers of all levels, great performances, and such a good vibe. DJ Cado does such a great job with the music. He makes sure to keep you on the dance floor all night.
