Great experience. We travelled on the seasteak ferry from manhattan to highlands. We took a short $15 Lyft ride to this hertz location. Our staff member, June was really friendly and provided excellent customer service.
I would definitely rent here again.
Initially we planned to take the NJ transit train to EWR but the price of a Lyft was only $10 more for 3 passengers so we took a Lyft to EWR.
Great experience. I would definitely rent here again

Joao the branch supervisor was incredibly helpful in accommodating a last minute request and went absolutely above and beyond to assist me in my travel needs. Absolutely recommend this location and will use again!

I had an extremely distressing and embarrassing experience with this Hertz rental that I want others to be aware of.
I rented a car from the Middletown, NJ location and was pulled over by the Sea Girt Police on May 25, 2025, around 4:00 PM — completely at random, for no apparent reason. When the officers asked for my license, registration, and proof of insurance, I provided my driver’s license, personal insurance, and the vehicle’s registration.
However, the police informed me that my personal insurance was not sufficient for the rental, and they needed Hertz’s insurance documentation. I found the insurance card in the glove box, but it had expired in January 2025.
I called Hertz Roadside Assistance since the Middletown location was closed for the weekend. When I finally reached someone, they told me the car was self-insured by Hertz Claim Management, and that the rental record number served as the policy number. When I relayed this to the officer, he said he needed a valid insurance document, which I did not have.
As a result, the car was towed on the spot.
I tried calling Hertz Emergency Roadside Assistance again to obtain documentation, but no one responded. I was on hold for nearly an hour before I gave up and hung up.
To make things worse, I was issued a ticket for not having valid proof of insurance — for a car that isn’t even mine.
The rental location is closed until Tuesday, leaving me without a car, without answers, and without support. And on top of all that, I paid for the car through Tuesday morning, yet I don’t even have access to it anymore.
This is more than poor customer service — it’s a serious breach of responsibility. Providing a car with expired insurance documents, failing to equip customers with proper proof of insurance, and then being unreachable in an emergency is completely unacceptable.
I will be seeking a full explanation and resolution to this issue. In the meantime, I strongly advise others to think twice before renting from this location — or from Hertz at all.

I had an incredible experience at Hertz Middletown New Jersey , and I have to give a huge shoutout to the manager, Garrett. This guy is an absolute legend. From the moment I walked in, his attentiveness, professionalism, and overall customer service were top-tier. He went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of and truly treated me like a valued customer—not just another transaction.
Garrett has a rare ability to make people feel comfortable and confident in the service they’re receiving. He’s not just an awesome manager, he’s an awesome person, and it’s clear he genuinely cares about his customers and takes pride in what he does. If you’re renting from Hertz in Middletown NJ , do yourself a favor and ask for Garrett. You’ll be glad you did.
Highly recommend this location—5 stars all the way.

Rented twice and takes 45 to 60 mins to check in. Poor guy at desk. They need more staff. Process should be so fast

Made a reservation online…got there, waited like 15 minutes after being told someone would be right out to help. They had a lunch date instead talking about the weather. Finally I walked out & went down the street to Enterprise!!

Whomever answered the phone today at this office around 2pm I'd get rid of that employee. What nasty person when inquiring about a car rental, you know it's a car rental business!! Went on about credit checks etc said cars need to be booked out three days in advance etc no problem Avis in red bank got the business. Poor employee skill set will highly recommend to any friend or family to avoid doing business here. Nasty to the customer.

Rented a car out of necessity due to a meet up with a deer. However, the service at Hertz in Middletown made it as painless as possible and worked with me so that I was able to keep the rental as long as possible without paying out of pocket. Would definitely use them again, but hopefully won't have to!

Ths place is good . They don’t have many cars as the website shows different than what the cars are actually available . Hertz needs to work on their availability of car more precisely on their website . We booked a car which was already taken so we were disappointed when we reached . I recommend call the places when you book to confirm . But the manager was very helpful worked around and provided a car.

Garett was extremely helpful in renting a car for one of my employees. I'm in Logistics and time is of the essence with deliveries, and thanks to Garett's willingness to solve my problem, my driver was in a rental within a few hours. Good company man offering me all the extra accommodations that can be added to the rental. Great company, great employees, I will be using Hertz again.
