Nice selection but The 2 kids-employees just chat away endlessly, don't conduct themselves properly in a front store biz, you step in there and you suddenly are invisible & it is an emergency extremely horrific customer service!! The vibe feels bad!! really feels sad!! The young hippies -instead of engaging customers, doing suggestive selling, greeting all who, or smiling or making small talk to customers are not paying absolutely no attention.
Terrible- attitude.,paying no attention!! . 2 white kids. If they were black and serviced like that- they would be immediately fired!! Guess Special rules for Maplewood???? But why ???? Lacking in merchandise,Lots of items have unclear, Extremely small price prints.. Sad.sad.Extremely sad- as small biz are struggling.
The Owner needs sack them & spend time In her/ his biz. They act like they are billionaires kids- the generation is unbelievable, going to another planet. Who is raising those kids?? Drunk tennis club moms and they leave them to nannies.Terrible service, if you not gonna service the public then move out for another biz that is serious. Such a waste of biz space & talent, time, money. Sack these girls asap. Gone are the days when my tennis friends used to brag about they jobs at cute stores, be proud and were interested in the biz. Sad. My second time here, as a color women
ITS despicable during these times, to see young people destroying people biz. Go figure

Such a cute store, but I was not very pleased with my experience today. I was shopping yesterday and when I got home, there was a necklace in the bag that I had not intended to buy. At first, I was horrified thinking my toddler had put it in the bag and that we had “stolen” it, but then I saw it on the receipt. I don’t know how it ended up on the counter. I remember thinking the bill was a bit high, but I did buy several things, so I just kind of assumed like everything these days—it’s all so expensive. Anyway, I went back today to return it with the receipt and they would not give me a refund. Just a store credit. The woman behind the counter said that there is no option on the register to issue a refund, but then she said that if I had noticed the mistake right away, maybe they could have helped me. So I guess there is a way to issue the refund? It has not even been 24 hours. I just think this policy should be better advertised. Returning an item, with a receipt, within one day—you should be able to get a refund. I might shop at this store once every few years, so definitely disappointed. Not sure I’ll be back after I use the store credit.

Looking at the reviews before mine, it sure seems like this shop has provided some mixed experiences. I did not know about this shop until very recently (I only went to Maplewood for the first time a few months ago). Before talking about the shop itself, I will say that during my recent visit the staff was very nice (this included two young women and one older one - possibly the owner?). I overheard them having several conversations with customers and they all seemed very familiar and friendly. Of course, this is just my experience, so take that as you will. No. 165 (so named for the building number) is an absolutely adorable, comfortable and whimsical shop in Maplewood. They sell all sorts of items ranging from novelty items, candy, clothes, stationary, dish towels, purses, soaps and more. Everything in the shop is either meant to be charming, beautiful or tongue-in-cheek and I love that combination. Interestingly, I saw a note on the counter that indicated at some point last year this shop was going to close, but a strong reaction from the neighborhood helped the owner to change their mind and keep the shop open. What that meant on a practical level is that during my visit a lot of the shelves were definitely more bare than I think they would normally be. This decision is recent, so I am hoping that means in the next couple months the store will restock and have more to offer than it already has. If you're in the area, definitely make it a point to visit No. 165!

I live down the street and I bought so many gifts and decor for my house. Today I went to the store and said hi and nobody responded, then I got a few items on sale and the owner in a rude tone said she cannot wrap sale gifts (one of them was not on sale) and she did not even offer a bag or something to wrap by myself. I just got a basket for myself and she throw it into a bag in a bad way. I went to the bookstore words to buy a present and they were much nicer. I'm really into small local business and I wish they could be as kind as other stores and give more value to the beautiful downtown. Now I understand bad reviews due to lack of kindness of owner.

Such an amazing shop to buy candy, jewelry, funny memorabilia, and anything else. The employees are so nice and the atmosphere is so cozy!

One and a half stars for the variety and quality of gifts, and one star for the location. Rounding up to three. I really want to love this store, but the staff is so cold. I don't need overly friendly, or even warm, but a little kindness would be appreciated, and I believe would pay off big time.

A terrific and fun store, like Fish's Eddy in New York but with a much broader type of wares - gift items, clothes, jewelry, cool paper goods.
