Don’t walk..run. Especially if your leasing contact is Valerie. Pros are the view. Cons are amenity fees are insane for just a mediocre gym. Upon move in, our apt had warped floors, broken washer/dryer, and toilet. Our rent raised about 15%, although we said we couldn’t afford to renew, we were harassed with charges (over 10k). First 3k in charges stating we didn’t have proof that we weren’t renewing and moving out, then an additional 7k because they said there was no proof we moved out and returned our keys. Thankfully we had numerous emails of proof that we weren’t renewing and obtained a lawyer. Just be prepared to get hit with any fee they can think of. Valerie was the most unprofessional human I’ve encountered. She will never answer a call or questions, she will do anything to make your experience as miserable as her real life. Customer service is clearly not in her job description.

You can’t beat the view, concierges and staff. But, Equity Residential is hit & miss. Management is constantly changing and currently not even on premises. As a result, the quality of service has declined since we moved here. It makes a difference in “luxury living,” which The Pier claims to be, if the Property Manager resided at The Pier and actually ‘managed’ things.’

This building is a red flag. The apartments are old and the management jacked my rent by 20 percent in the second year. They still get customers due to good location but most move out in a few months. Don’t move here and the good reviews are fake. I’ve not met a resident that’s had a good experience here.

Absolutely, under no circumstances, move here. Rude, unattentive staff in the management office.
We moved in to an apartment after a delay because they needed more time to work on the apartment. You would think that would mean everything would be sorted, you would be horrifically wrong.
One example of something wrong was our toilet seat was not attached to our toilet. I thought this would have been a minor issue they would be able to quickly remedy. Boy was I wrong.
I was told someone would be there to take care of it, and when I followed up before the office closed they informed me they might make it the next day. I explained how it was important to have a functional toilet, and they said someone would come by the end of the day. No one did. No one came the next day. Or the next.
We moved in on Saturday, on Tuesday I went to the office in person because they were open. The most important thing on the lady's mind was that just because I did not have a toilet seat attached, does not mean my toilet is broken. I wish I was making this up.
Finally, a note about the front desk staff. They are the absolute greatest. Victor is an actual lifesaver. These exceptional front desk crew are the reason people must still live here.

Current resident- It is a tough living here. The biggest problems are the walls. You can literally hear the next door residents which makes us feel like living in a cheap housing community
Service request takes weeks to be addressed even if they are emergency. They won’t even let you out easily-non-transferrable leases unless you pay 2 month rent which is ridiculous. Would suggest stay away from this very old construction.

Do NOT move here! Save yourself the trouble, the leaks, the pluming issues, the fire alarms that constantly go off, the dog poop on the ground and in the parking garage, the exterior doors that do not lock, broken elevators even though they are new, Madison, the resident experience coordinator, who makes living here an unenjoyable experience, who doesn't investigate issues before providing a response on a topic she knows nothing about, Jaq the new property manager who "supports Madison" even though Madison doesn't know what she is doing.
Also, if you sort the reviews in order from Newest to Oldest, you'll see the majority of reviews over the past year have 1 star.

Do not move here unless you want no sleep. Maintenance issues all around plus the fire alarm keeps on going off when residents are trying to sleep!

STAY AWAY!! 1AM FIRE ALARMS every week!!!! It’s a problem that continues to happen without being fixed. I’ve lived in few buildings in Jersey City but their problem never gets fixed! Don’t waste your money for this “luxury apartments” as you may have a good view but you can’t sleep even a single night without a fire alarm going off!!

Fire alarms go off every two-three weeks since I moved in in August :( very disruptive, with no apparent action from property managers to actually fix the problem.

This building has countless problems. Faulty fire alarms going off in the middle of the night, elevators never work, electrical problems with key fob access to all door entries. The list goes on and on! I would not recommend living here

Nice view, nice staff, super convenient location to Manhattan. But the alarm system of the building is terribly designed. It has been mistakenly triggered too many times. It would happen in the middle of the night, early morning, noon… And it can’t be turned off until the fire department comes.

I lived here for 3 years and it was overall a great experience that I would recommend. The people were great to work with - very clear on all move in and move out specifics. The concierge team are very helpful and Sophia (property manager) is thoroughly professional. The apartments are pretty quiet compared to lots of places I have lived. There are some downsides such as the fact that the fire alarm and elevator maintenance seem to glitch a lot. Overall however I would live there again and it has been a positive experience.

Having lived at The Pier Apartments for two incredible years, I feel compelled to share my exceptional experience. The standout aspect of this residence is the remarkable team, especially the property manager, Sophia. She is a true professional who consistently went above and beyond. Whether it was addressing maintenance issues swiftly or offering personalized solutions to any concerns, Sophia's dedication to residents' comfort is unparalleled. The front desk staff, particularly Ismael and Victor, deserve a special mention. Their concierge services were impeccable, always greeting residents with a smile and ready to assist with anything from parcel deliveries to local recommendations. They truly made the building feel like a welcoming community. The apartment itself boasts modern amenities, a prime location with amazing views, and a vibrant community atmosphere. It's more than just a residence; it's a place where you feel genuinely cared for and valued. I highly recommend The Pier Apartments to anyone seeking a top-tier living experience, backed by a stellar team who truly makes it feel like home.Thank you, Sophia, Ismael, Victor, and everyone at The Pier Apartments for an unforgettable stay!

We had a leak in the ceiling of our bedroom. The manager was expeditious in sending plumbers to repair the leak and immediately followed up with another contractor to repair the ceiling and paint the walls. They were polite, competent, friendly, and very professional. What could have been a very unpleasant and stressful situation turned into an efficient result.
