Everyone at the office is so welcoming and friendly, my dogs are actually excited to come to the vet! They really do care about the health and happiness of my pets.

We always have a really good, welcoming and informative experience at Downtown Vet. It's easy to schedule and generally efficient, time-wise. I don't always see the same doctors but they are up to speed on our records and I don't get conflicting information. The docs are great and the techs are too (my dogs love Shawn! And everyone there) Thanks!

Our 18yr old Maltese is a patient of Dr. Scaffa. We usually see him either in Bayonne or in Hoboken. We had never gone to this location before but we will follow Dr. Scaffa to the end of the earth. I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with this location. Everything was very clean and the exam rooms were very bright and cheerful. The staff had smiles on their faces (even with a rude pet parent in the waiting area) the tech was great and was very attentive to our concerns. Great place!!!

I'm so happy that I go to Downtown Veterinary Associates. My cat Jango is well taken care of by the doctors there, but also the staff. Two stand outs among the staff come to mind. Cristina and Danii. Cristina is a receptionist, but she also cat sits for me. Danii is a Vet Tech and also cat sits for me. Both Cristina and Danii take such good care of Jango both at the facility and at home. Jango is super comfortable with both when I'm away

Downtown Veterinary Associates is an amazing place to take your pet. They treat them with such love and care, it’s great! My dog Odie, loves all of the workers from the Jersey City location, especially Jenn! She’s always available for questions, comments, concerns, and belly rubs! I couldn’t imagine taking Odie anywhere else.

I really did not like this facility, i went with my Dog he had a really bad rash. The Dr saw my dog for like 2 seconds and said that he had fleas made me gives him the pill for fleas cuz they didn’t and the rash continued he got worse he still was scratching biting the skin even,I had to buy a rash relief from Chewy and allergy medication and that made him better. After 3 days.. i went to this facility for nothing, I lost my time and money !!!!!

When they first opened (I was asked to clarify, although I feel this line is precise as is (but in late 2004)) I took my cat Ally there who was known to be aggressive. She was aggressive bc she had been through trauma. She given ketamine by this facility, so she would be calm enough to remove from the crate. They overdosed her, which killed her. They had the nerve to charge me for the visit and cremation.

I lived nearby for a while and brought my two cats here many, many times. This place is excellent for cat care UNLESS you get Janirka Ponce.
I've had the displeasure of each of my cats encountering Dr.Ponce because she was the very available. She is clearly not a cat person at all and she was incredibly rude to me and genuinely a bad vet to both of my cats.
For my one cat, she barely looked at him for the checkup, asked why I was even there, and when I asked if he was overweight, she scoffed and said, "What do YOU think?"
For my other cat, I watched her crawl on the floor to give a barking, growling large pitbull kisses shortly after she told me she could not look at my seven pound cat's eye because he hissed at her. I asked if he scratched her or bit her or hurt her and she said no. (Are you kidding me? You cannot look at my cat because he hissed?! You're a vet! Try a little harder!) She REFUSED to look at him even though I was still charged for the appointment, she gave me sedatives for him that I was also charged for, and told me to come back and try again. A vet has never refused to look at my cat and my cat has never attacked or hurt a vet. He just hisses! He is literally so small!
I came back and did NOT DRUG HIM and requested my chart say I never have the displeasure of working with Dr. Ponce again. The next vet I had was AWESOME and he told me my cat's chart, per Dr. Ponce's notes, said my cat's eye was leaking yellow pus. He said he was confused because the cat's eye was just tearing up from allergies. I never said his eye had yellow pus and his eye was never yellow ANYTHING. She just MADE IT UP. ALSO, AS SHE TOLD ME, SHE DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT HIS EYE. This was blatantly untrue. She just made crap up on his chart and the nice, competent vet had to correct it.
Once I had on my chart to avoid Janirka, I had an excellent experience at this vet for many years. The staff members and all of the other vets I encountered were kind, competent, and genuinely always seemed to have my pet's best interests at heart. I always appreciated them trying to work with me to find the most affordable care options, too. The wait times were often super reasonable as well.
If you have a dog, Dr. Ponce might be fine. If you have a cat, literally request anyone else. Even the folks at the front desk didn't seem surprised I didn't want her to look at my cats, which leads me to believe I'm not the only one who's dealt with this.
TLDR: Come here with your cats for excellent care and honest service but request you do not have them seen by Dr. Ponce.

This is the most terrible experience with a vet I have ever had. We have our cat rabies vaccinated at a different vet two days ago and we came here for health certificate for travel abroad. The vet here saw the rabies certificate with the cat's ID on it, but refused to recoginize it, insisiting on rediculous condition that it has to be written down that the scanning took place before rabbies vaccination, regardless what the certificate form presents. Then she suggests strongly that the cat take the rabies vaccination again now. She wanted to give the cat rabbies vaccination twice during a week, just for a unreasonable and rediculous extra requirement not from a truthful reading of the official requirement document. We refused and pointed this out, and she refused to carry on other procedures because of my husband voice is loud. This is rediculous as 1. our voices were not very loud. My husband might have original louder voice than others, but it was not very loud and we did not say any impolite words. 2. we have already lowered our voice after she required. 3. Refusing to carry on the work simply because the loud noice for a couple of sentences is rediculous. She says she does not feel fine carry on working, why does she still feel fine enough for us to pay for the bill? 4. Her attitude from the beginning to the end sounds like a fraud, not respecting my reading out of the offical rules for her and kind explnation of the situation of our cat. This vet is a liar, believe it or not, try out the service yourself.
I tried other vets and they don't cheat me with trapping services as this vet does. Also, we don't have the obligation to help the vet improve their service. I have a kind heart to warn the public about their lying service, but I am happy to help if the vet manager reaches me to inspect about the details of what happened. But they did not.

Awful, shameless, poor service, morally corrupt people who care only about money. Very rude attitude. They totally ignored what we said, and tried to revaacinate my cat who has just been vaccinated two days ago, for money. They tried their best to take advantage of our urgency for international travel with pets. I'd say they're despicable frauds. Absolutely sick, won't recommend it to anyone!

My Dog had Degenerative Disc Disease (IVDD). In January of 2023, when he was still undiagnosed but we recognized he was in pain, we took him to downtown vet. There they told us that there was nothing wrong with him and gave him pain meds bypass any pain he may have had. We continued like this until we couldn’t bear to see my dog in the pain he was in any longer and got a second opinion. In August of 2023, the second vet office informed us of my dogs IVDD, and although he got some proper care, it was not enough and his spine continued to debilitate. In February of 2024, we had to put him down because he became fully paralyzed.
Summary: I’m not sure if there was truly anything we could’ve done, but maybe if we had been properly informed and my dog was properly diagnosed, he wouldn’t have suffered as bad as he did and we could’ve prevented this outcome. But because of the ignorance that took place at DownTown Vet, we’ll never know. I’m sure that good people work here and that they have helped many animals, but if anyone takes their pet here, I would suggest they also get a second opinion to be safe.
