After reading some review about pool on this thread, I think they are true. I hope I could have different experience, but those female swim trainers are rude and mean. Some even in the locker room with threatening look, considering the floor is wet and you have threatening people around you disturbing you, you don't want to have accident on the floor and get injured, it is very dangerous in this kind of environment. Not sure this should report to management, but for your safety be careful and watch out. Some staff still very friendly and professional, so give two star, not one star.

Outstanding customer service here. I'm visiting from out of town for a week and needed a place to swim. Jacob got me set up for the week in the most professional and courteous manner. The facility is very clean. The staff were all very friendly.

I go here for swimming and the instructors are great. However, the facilities are not what I expected. They seem to be renovating because I’ve seen wet paint signs on more than one occasion. The elevator feels more like a freight elevator. And there seems to be no scanner to ensure that the people who are there are supposed to be.

Unlike other clubs like Planet Fitness Weehawken, NJ, this club has educated and very friendly personnel at the desk. Im changing clubs because Planet Fitness is so crowed and machines such as PEC FLY REAR DELT is always busy since they have only one and everybody who comes
Here likes to own this machine for hours.
In Xcel you find very easy to use all the machines, the amenities are very clean and accessible to everybody. I don’t waste my time and I always do the best of it.

Almost there. The space is great. The staff is really friendly.
The equipment is pretty dirty. The treadmills are covered in dead skin and dried sweat and all need replacing. The belts are broken on a couple of them and they’re all crooked or missing buttons.
For the area and price this gym is a good option though. The upkeep just really needs improvement. Cracked mirrors? come on.
I’d recommend to most people and just hope to see a bit of turnover and cleanup. Certainly better than the rip off Firehouse Fitness up in JC heights. Same price and way more.

Really fantastic gym but the manager Lenny is a massive stink on the atmosphere. Be careful and make sure you are aware of all of the hidden fees!

It’s a decent gym but a lot of their equipment is worn down like their flat benches. They have come a part on me a handful of times when i am trying to adjust the incline. The major reason I am dissatisfied is that they will not open on time given any sort of inclement weather. Hoboken received two inches of snow and they are not opening until 12:00 pm. I understand that employees need to commute from different areas but if crunch and all the other gyms can find a way to open I think xcel can too especially with the amount of money they charge and Hoboken only receiving 2 inches of snow. I think it is a bit unreasonable to stay closed all the way to 12 pm. If xcel put more of an effort to opening I would be much more satisfied

My husband and I enjoy this gym. It has all the equipment you'd need, and we tend to come bright and early in the mornings (6-7am) so it's not crowded at that time. If you come during the day on a weekend, it could get super duper crowded, but I don't know any gym in Hoboken that doesn't get rush hours. Most people don't clean off the equipment after they use it, but the equipment is pretty clean so we don't feel grossed out. I most often go to the pool, which is a really nice sized (25 yards?) one. Heated most of the time, definitely during the winter. I don't think they swap out the water often and just dump cleaning detergent in their to keep it fairly clean, but I deal with it because this is the only gym in Hoboken that has a pool and for me a pool with questionable water is better than no pool at all. I always wear a waterproof, rubber cap to protect my hair. The pool has four lanes (3 on the weekends during family swim hours) and in the weekday mornings I almost always have a lane to myself but on the weekends I often have to share. The showers are acceptable. Definitely not always clean and the shower curtains are short so the water always leaks into the drying area in front of the shower, but nothing flip flops won't solve. They offer complimentary small and large towels at the front desk if you ask for them. The soap, conditioner and shampoo is almost always full in the showers, I've only had one time where something had run out. My husband and I signed up for a 6-month plan and it runs us $167/month. Staff is nice enough. They also have discounted, validated parking, I think it's like $8 or something (I saw a sign once about it). Overall, is it the best gym ever? Is it an Equinox? For sure not. But it meets our needs and is just good enough that we'll probably stick around until we move away.

I have been to many gyms, and would highly recommend XCEL gym. It is top a notch and clean facility, with all of the equipment and amenities you would need. The pool and the group classes are great. Not to mention, the staff is very knowledgeable and friendly!
