Full and fair disclosure: This review applies to the two Kings locations I went to (Cresskil and Hillsdale), so I will be posting the same review for both (for anyone who catches the fact that I copypasta'd).I normally shop at another grocery chain than Kings. However, I was given a $100 gift card for them. Catch me turning down free money, right?? So I went to Kings with an open mind - I'd never been in one meaningfully before this. I'd been BY them, but not in them.I'm on the fence about the stars. If I had gone here and paid using my own money, it would be 3 stars ('It's okay'). However, I was shopping with free money, so yeah, 4 stars ('I liked it'). Just know that I won't be back using my own money. The layout seemed unusual to me, but no deduction for that. After all, I'm used to a different chain entirely. The stores were clean, and the selection was reasonable. I say reasonable because even at my favored chain, there are still what I perceive to be supply chain issues. Same thing here: Some empty spots where items should be, here and there, around the store. Nowhere near the panic-buying pandemic level that every place had a few years back though. The main issue I have, the issue where 1 or 2 stars are deducted, is price. I looked at some staple items I normally buy to see how they measured up price-wise. Everything was more expensive! Plus, certain things (canned chunk light tuna springs to mind) were double in price, whether name brand or not. I'm comparing non-sales price to non-sales price here, mind you.Otherwise, I used the gift card, which almost covered the dozen eggs I bought - just a little joke. The eggs were definitely expensive, but this was at a time where eggs were expensive everywhere. I got a number of items I was running low on, like eggs, and toilet paper, and milk, etc etc. I wound up paying about 80 cents over the card, but I got restocked on some bigger ticket items that last over a longer time than, say, produce.I won't be back (why would I go there just to pay more money? I didn't see any benefit to going there other than the Hillsdale location being 1 mile away vs. the closest 'favored chain' store which is 2 miles away), but I will say, if you get a gift card for Kings market, it's definitely well worth using.

Kings makes it so easy to give back to those in need in your local area. They have prepackaged grocery bags in varying price ranges for you to choose from to purchase that go directly to your local food pantry.

This was my first time ever at a Kings Food Market. I came here looking for a specific product which they had in stock. I had no idea they were owned by Acme, but it makes sense. The store did have an Acme feel but with a slightly more expansive selection in my opinion. I thought the store well organized and I liked the product variety. The checkout experience was pleasant and the cashier was nice.

I only go to King's for select things. The quality has never been the same since Acme bought it years ago. I learned today to never ask for prosciutto, at least from the younger gentleman behind the counter. What I received was cut WAY too thin and was unusable for sandwiches. I was able to salvage two-thirds of it and cooked with it, but a third was lost because I couldn't be bothered picking little bits off the paper dividers. At $24 a pound, please learn the proper thickness it should be sliced at. No one wants to waste time picking hundreds of bits of meat off wax paper.

Good selection of items and produce

June 2023 by why would i do this
Absurdly high prices for everyday items, a mediocre prepared foods. I think people just shop here to feel exclusive

Ordered 9 mini sandwiches for mothers day. Got 6 cut in half. Called to speak with the deli and they said it comes 6 or 12. Came with lettuce and tomatoes( allergy to tomatoes) when I asked on the side!! They said the person, who took my order days ago, really does not know the catering service

Let's talk about service. Employees (3) standing around courtesy desk talking. I asked all 3 if they know where scotch tape was. They said either 4 or 9. All were wrong it was 9 - where greeting cards were. I decided to test the lady in floral, she said she had no idea. Hmmm. Let's see, tape usually goes with cards and gifts and flowers. For an upscale store, employees don't know Jack shot and simply don't care. Go to wegmans and they all know where most stuff is and actually offer good customer service. Kings has become the service level of "CVS" in the grocery world.

Kings prices are so high. Also, they sell dead plants outside.

It's Tuesday night. Kings is closing and I'm in a hurry. Peanut Butter? I ask the young woman, Brenna T. is in customer service. She thinks for a second and tells me at the end of aisle 2. I head down and there it is. "You know your store," I tell her, as I pass by again on search or something tortillas. She thinks. "They're either in bakery or theres a section in frozen." Found em exactly where she said they'd be. Excellent customer service. Thank you Brenna T.!

Too expensive, items prices are doubled or sometimes tripled compared to other storesExample organic milk at kings is 7.99 and the same item 3 $ in lidl.
