New Staff new ownership own ,no owner on Staff not Dog friendly and I have no patience with dogs feeling uncomfortable in the office Dr. Freeman who was there for over 30 years while I bought my three past dogs for that time frame there is no longer there. His staff was the most professional staff ,a complete different atmosphere now Old staff had seven veterinarians. I believe there was only one veterinarian on staff. The office was rude and Impatient with a dog that felt comfortable being in the vets office. Definitely a time to move on to a new office sad to say. Check other reviews.

As someone who has been coming here since 2014, my review should carry some weight. I did think this was one of the better vets in the area at the time. I have 2 male cats that I started taking here after I had adopted them. I've been fortunate enough to never have experienced anything critically wrong with their health. We did take them in for regular visits and had no complaints at first. About 4 years ago, we had an ill parent move in with us and started taking her pets there as well. I mention this because at one point in time, we had been taking 6 pets over to Animal General (she had 4 and we still had our 2 boys), and I have to say, for an establishment that we gave a fair amount of business to, I've never felt more transactional, and less cared about, then by them. I had wanted to write this review several years ago when one of my mother's cats who had diabetes passed. They had been caring for him and I could tell one morning that he was on his way out. I had seen them just a couple of weeks prior, and was very concerned about his health. They would not make room to see him that day, saying they were too busy and that I should just go to an emergency vet. I did do so, and had to put him to sleep that day at VEG in Hoboken. Ironically, they didn't have the decency to turn off their automated "check up reminder" emails, as I received one for that very same cat the following week.
We had to put another cat of my mother's to sleep a couple of years later from kidney disease, and the only reason we had continued going there was because of Dr. Dima, who is now gone (and seemed very overworked and stressed when he was there). They were slightly more accommodating during this experience, but I can't say they showed any true compassion.
Most recently I have tried to make an appointment for one of my cats experiencing eye discharge, who has been going there for nearly 10 years, and the response again is to go to an emergency vet because they don't have room for him for another 1-2 weeks. They left this in a voicemail and when I tried to call back to at least schedule the visit anyway, no one responded again, and no one returned my call a second time.
I understand businesses being busy. I truly do. And I understand when something is urgent, you should take the animal you love to get care immediately. However, it seems they never have appointments available for several weeks, even for clients who have been with them for over a decade, and the solution is to pay surcharges for an emergency vet who has no understanding of the pet's medical history, nor a relationship with either them or you. Unless this is a checkup scheduled well in advance, they simply aren't going to be there for you.
Clearly Animal General does not value relationships with their clients or their pets. As I said before, they are purely transactional. If you are ok with this type of care, then you will have no complaints. But I expect more from people I have been giving my business to for almost a decade. Bringing multiple pets here, and just wanting to feel like someone on their end actually cares about the well being of my animals, should not be a big ask in this industry.

If you are not accepting new patients or are picking and choosing new patients, don't put 'We are welcoming new patients!' on your website.

I’m very satisfied with my recent visit to Animal General. My dog has seen Dr. Lang since Dr. Friedman left a couple of years ago. I was a bit nervous with the transition, but for the past two years I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Dr. Lang and the rest of the staff. They were kind, answered all my questions, and timely. I would recommend Animal General and Dr. Lang.

Everything was great, with the exception of they gave me one price and then what's was done, was done, gave me another price. Unfortunate, as I liked that place and thought they were going to do the right thing, but at the end of the day, it was my word versus theirs and they would throw me in collections for money that was not spoken of previous to treatment. I was told the price initially and total initially, and that was agreed upon, now I am told that I owe 98 dollars more and that if I don't make payments, I'll get put in collections with advancing late fees. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE DONT GO TO VETS ANYMORE, VERY SHADY, BUT NOW WITH MY NAME ADHERED TO THE BILL.

All vets gone.
Nasty front desk. They hung up on me when I questioned where Dr Dima went.

I have been using Animal General since I moved to New Jersey 23 years ago. They are the only vet I would take my cats too. They are up to date on the latest feline issues, the staff are caring, friendly and courteous. The doctors are knowledgeable, caring and most of all care about the wellbeing of the four legged patient and its family. I highly recommend them.

I always brought my dogs to Dr Freedman but lately I haven been unhappy with Animal General, I made an appointment for tooth cleaning and as I was on the way there in traffic they suddenly send me a text canceling, no call at all. Have call several times Animal General to set up an appointment for allergy shots and the phone just rings and no one answer not voicemail. I would think that someone would return the message I left July 15th, no response either. I guess is not important to them. Since Dr Freedman left
this vet clinic has gone down the hill. I’m very unhappy with their services and 5 days later no one has call and no voicemail to leave messages. I miss Dr Freedman very much, he was a great vet.?

The employees here are insanely rude. Horrible customer service and speak very condescendingly to people. You shouldn’t be answering the phone annoyed once hearing who is on the other end find a new job if that is the case!
