When provided the opportunity to go to the NJ DMV, or to chew on the shards of glass directly from the back of your municipal recycling vehicle...The DMV is the only place that as you sit there and deal with the bureaucracy can make you wonder if you infact did make the wrong decision.

I am giving 2 stars because the police officer was kind, he shared that we should come back in the morning because they weren’t accepting ppl with name changes. I was there at 1pm. Then I witnessed this other lady yell at a customer and say “you are too late your appointment was at 9oclock”. I get it, working with people can suck, however, that yelling was completely unwarranted. Also, I went to the DMV in Lawrenceville and was seen the same day with the name change.

Do your research and come prepared. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes for a license renewal with "Real I.D."upgrade.

Had a very pleasant experience today renewing my license. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and helpful. Arrived at 8:05am and was out by 8:40, can't complain about that. Here's the secret: do your research beforehand, bring the proper documents, be friendly and you will be out of there with a smile on your face.

Do yourself a favor and arrive at least an hour early before your appointment. Long lines, one person checking everyone in.

Got there about 1:30 on a Tuesday and I breezed right through. It's definitely not the way it used to be. This place has a nice large waiting area and people all over the place directing you to where you should go.

I was taken care of quickly and finished my business in about 35 minutes. Not bad for DMV.

Another useless government agency. Long overdue to be privatized- this is the only thing at this point that can possibly increase efficiency and service. Rude employees, rolling their eyes at questions.Impossible to reach on the phone -only an automated message.Website says you can’t make an appointment for name change (due to marriage) and only walk-in is possible (I tried making a reservation, but system wouldn’t let me).Walked-in, they said they only do name changes before 10am and come back another time. This not noted anywhere on the website and since there are no humans picking up the phone, this information is not posted anywhere. Individual MVCs shouldn’t be allowed to make their own rules- it’s a government agency after all.Mind you, there were barely any people there (surprisingly) at the time I came in and barely any cars in the parking lot (so it’s not like there is another large room that I didn’t see where people are waiting), they totally could have processed it even though they usually do it before 10 am since employees were sitting around chatting, but that would be too much common sense for government employees and they simply didn’t feel like working -it was 2 hours before closing after all, why would they want to help a customer instead of chatting. Ridiculous.
