I lived at the Metropolitan for about a year while living in South Jersey and I have to say that it was a phenomenal experience through and through. From the flexibility in their lease durations and very responsive and welcoming staff to the overall ease of the move in and out process, I have nothing but good things to say about the facilities.
Pros:
- It’s close to but not in downtown Philly and the Amtrak or Patco
- You’re walking distance from the River
- About 10 minutes from Cherry Hill Mall and (I think 3) Planet Fitness
- All staff and neighbors are extremely friendly and respectful
- Very affordable
- No roaches or insects
- Generally no mice
Cons:
- There was a small period (about a month) where an older long time tenant was moving out and the mice he had moved in, but it was very short lived
Overall: Would highly recommend to anyone looking to move to the area! It’s arguably the best find on this side of South Jersey for renting. I would definitely move back if ever in the area.
*Also, if you scroll my reviews for the area you can find some really nice restaurants!

I moved from a less safe location in Baltimore to here to get away from crime. We have lived here for less than 3 months and have already been victims of 2 thefts, one being a bicycle and the other being our car. Our appliances are breaking which are included in what I would consider the higher end of paying rent for what we get at the Metropolitan, which is truthfully a rundown apartment complex that has no concern for their tenants. our washer and dryer are considered part of the reason why the rent here is higher and now we’ve been out of a washer and dryer for over a week, and the management will not takeoff any percentage of rent for next month even though they leased this apartment to us with very old appliances that were on the brink of breaking. There was also a gas leak last week where we couldn’t use our stove (also needing to be replaced) for over 24 hours. The leasing office and maintenance team at the Collingswood location are doing their best, but unfortunately the overhead management does not care at all, hence their high turnover rate for tenants. Cannot wait until our 10 month lease is up so we can move out of here. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

I can’t say enough good things about this complex. I lived in a one bedroom for 3 years. Location is great, walking distance to Cooper River, restaurants, and shops on Haddon Ave. The grounds are kept clean and well maintained. Administration always kept an open line of communication for any concerns/needs, maintenance resolved issues quickly. Never had any issues with noise. The only thing I didn’t love was the heat controlled by the complex, however this was resolved with installation of an HVAC system.

We're happy here. Location is great. Staff is concerned with our needs. Maintenance staff is quick to respond. Heat is plentiful! Our wish would be an updated bath room. Aside from that all is good.

Location is great. You’ll see on the metro’s website that they “care about their residents”. As a current resident of over a year, I’ll offer my honest, opposing opinion. The buildings are OLD. Paint is CAKED on. It’s been cracking for the entire 12 months we’ve been here. They just keep covering up….Also, not sure what they were thinking with the windows here. They are IMPOSSIBLE to open or close without two people. Seriously. You need to UUUMMPPPHHHH to open or close. Trust me, since the heat is basically always on, you will want to open these windows. We live on the second floor. The hardwood is nice, but there are some nails sticking out (we’ve lost many socks to holes due to this) and the floor literally sinks in towards the middle of each room. It’s not enough to distract, but we have to prop up one side of our TV/ fridge/ bookshelf so that it doesn’t topple over. You can’t make this up.There is a wasp problem. We find dead wasps behind furniture and in the windowsill each time we clean. The air conditioners provided are old and quite frankly, I don’t know if they are ever serviced, like you would expect at a complex of this size or at a complex with a more modern air infrastructure.Like others, we’ve had good experiences with the maintenance crew. They’ve had to come when our bathroom ceiling leaked while it was raining before it crashed, and to replace a sink faucet when we had no water.Lastly, upon renewal when emailing a property manager and the director, Robin G, we had a very disturbing experience. They did not respond to two of my emails when we asked questions about the renewal. I had to respond multiple times and loop in others to get a response. They pointed the finger at me, saying I did not respond, and when I proved that it was actually them, they never admitted fault, but instead said by default I had renewed my lease. This was extremely appalling, considering the email thread was regarding our potential departure. Now I’m forced to pay an unreasonable rent increase for a year despite requesting more information before signing a new lease. They should be ashamed of themselves for claiming they have anything more than subpar communication skills. I know the company was founded by two Penn Grads. As a Penn Grad myself, I am discouraged after having this experience with this company.TLDR: not worth your time. They could have at least responded to my emails ……

The heat is controlled by the facilities. So you’ll be real hot all winter. The wall ac units can’t keep up in the summer so you’ll be hot then too. 1 closet in living room and 1 in each bedroom they are small and useless. Washer and dryer and very under powered it seems. Storage in the kitchen is weird. The stair cases are real hot in the summer. The seals on the doors are old and don’t do a good job. Bathroom has pink tile. Parking is for Honda civics and smaller. If you park on the street you have to call it in to township. Locations fun. Spending as little time as I can inside. Moving to a more modern and affordable apartment after this lease is up. Staff is nice and maintenance keeps exterior very nice. The gym is out of date and needs to be up dated.

My fiance and I really enjoyed our time living at the Metropolitan. The location and easy access to the Patco was great. The staff at the Metropolitan were always friendly and helpful. When we first moved in, our oven was broken. The staff immediately responded and we had a brand new oven within the week. We would definitely recommend the Metropolitan to anyone!

Just adding some updates. After not being in my apartment for two months (I cleaned thoroughly before I left, prophylactically sprayed raid, closed all windows plugged all drains) and was left with a surprise when I returned. 3 dead mice on my floor, as if they were poisoned and made their way to my apartment to die. And this was right after they raised my rent $150 extra a month. Take a look at pictures of the mice. And to the reviewer below, insinuating that these critter issues inside the apartment might be due to my cleanliness, I can assure it is not. I went away for 3 months and spotlessly cleaned my apartment before I left and got rid of every food item since I was going to be gone. I Was still greeted with cricket bodies and mice carcasses. I had a great experience my first 2 years too but to all you people looking to rent, you were warned.

Lived here for a year and was very happy with it. The office staff and maintenance were always responsive and on top of requests/concerns. Friendly neighborhood. Only thing that could be improved would be more closet/storage space in the apartment. It was also a bit pricey for the size but the location to Haddon Ave and Cooper river park made up for it. Definitely would recommend.

I'm beyond happy with the Metropolitan at Collingswood in more ways than one. Ms. Marissa was extremely helpful throughout the entire process of application to move-in. Her responses were timely and she was always friendly. My partner and I moved in about a week ago and love the apartment and environment. The apartment has a central AC in the livingroom that cools down the entirty of the livingroom as well as the kitchen. Unfortunately, our bedroom still gets very warm so we do need a fan-but it is late May so that is expected. All of our appliances work wonderfully and the shower temperature stays very hot. I was originally concerned about living in a pet friendly apartment due to the noise but it is so unbelievably quiet all hours of the day.On top of this, there has never been an issue with finding a parking spot. Also, there is no litter or dog waste on the premises; it is clear the residents and maintenance care about the exterior appearance of the apartments. Not only this, but Collingswood is a very friendly and diverse community. I cannot give this enough praise.

I moved into a one-bedroom recently, and my experience has been great so far! The staff are very friendly, helpful, and quick to respond to emails. They make sure your move-in goes smoothly. Maintenance also takes care of any issues almost immediately. The apartments are bright, clean, and pest-free. I was very happy to see that it came with a dishwasher, washer, and dryer. There is also a fridge, microwave, and gas stove. The kitchen has a nice amount of storage space and counter space, and there is a front and back door with convenient tenant parking in the back. There's plenty of hot water as well. The Collingswood area is very nice. The apartments are in a quiet suburb along Cooper River, and there are plenty of restaurants, shopping, and parks nearby. It is relatively quiet, although there is a train station nearby that can be a little noisy. (This is no fault of the Metropolitan however.)While very minor, I should mention that the walls are made of concrete (or a concrete-like substance.) While not impossible, it does make hanging pictures, curtains, and decorations a bit of a challenge. This is most likely either a fire precaution or because the building is older. Again, I consider this very minor. On the plus side, the apartment is nearly sound proof!! I definitely feel like I have privacy and my own space, which is really important.I would definitely recommend it!

My fiancé and I loved living at the Metropolitan Collingswood and if we did not have to relocate for our jobs, we would have definitely continued our lease! The area, apartments and neighbors are great and honestly, we miss the area very much. The only somewhat negative comment is that the buildings are older and sometimes the hallways smell of mildew, as well as some the older units do not have a garbage disposal and food gets backed up in the bottom of the dishwashers. HOWEVER, the girls in the office are both super nice and helpful - maintenance is SUPER quick and EFFICIENT in responding to requests. I once locked myself out of my apartment after a night out and maintenance came and let me in at 1:00 AM. Their online portal makes paying rent very easy and hassle free. Living at the metropolitan was very pleasant, easy and worry free. 100% RECOMMEND if you're looking for a quiet, quaint and charming apartment. :)
