This was our second time staying at the Virginia. We love the staff, the location, and the sophisticated coziness. There are little perks that add to the value such as complementary waters in our room and very nice included breakfast. Will definitely stay here again (possibly in an off season to see what it’s like with a nice fire in the lobby!)

Allow this to serve as a warning as much as a review. The Virginia is a hotel we have stayed at before and it is a really nice place. Clean, friendly staff, the Ebbitt Room has great food. Our most recent stay has completely tarnished our opinion of the hotel.
My 32 weeks pregnant wife and I booked one (Friday) night for her last hoorah before giving birth. We paid $850 for this one night stay. We were placed in room 101. It appears there are 2 rooms on the first floor of the hotel…ours and the one directly across from ours, essentially connected by a small entry way and a glass door that is in no way a sound barrier. Upon entering our room we noticed we had direct view of the outside patio where folks were seated. On the wall to the left is a large window, the wall in front has another large window and there is a window in our bathroom. ALL windows have older shutter style blinds with some of them (at least in the bathroom) being broken. We immediately thought how uncomfortable it was to be so close to the tables and people that are literally right outside our windows. We shut the “blinds” and moved on. If you like natural light in your room this definitely isn’t the room for you unless you really enjoy people watching you get dressed, shower, go to the bathroom, etc. We are yearly “Cape May visitors” between trips ourselves or with family that date back to our adolescence. We are no stranger to staying up a little later and enjoying ourselves. But this trip was about a relaxing evening after a day at the Sea Spa and a nice dinner in the Ebbitt Room. We returned to our room around 8:45 and immediately noticed how loud it was. Through the cracks of our blinds we could see the entire patio which wrapped around our room was full of restaurant patrons. A table placed so close to our bathroom (and other) windows I could reach out and touch someone on the shoulder. We felt extremely uncomfortable going to the bathroom with people so close. That discomfort was quickly diminished by the noise coming from every direction. People talking and having dinner, the main kitchen access right across from our room with sounds of dishware clanging and people coming and going. It was so loud I literally felt like I was in the restaurant and I was part of everyone’s conversations. We looked at each other and immediately knew this was a problem. I went to the front desk not expecting much help. There were no rooms left elsewhere in the hotel but to their credit they offered to move us to another hotel a block and a half away. This meant packing up and moving at 9:30 at night which simply wasn’t ideal but I should have taken it. The gentleman working the front desk was nice and tried to be accommodating and I again will credit the hotel that we did not tell them my wife was pregnant (didn’t think we had to). But he knew exactly what my complaints were about with this room. It was quite clear as he commented we were “lucky it wasn’t Saturday.”
We laid in bed listening to conversations until about 11 when the last people finally left. Ongoing noise from people walking above us or up and down the stairs which are directly next to the room as well. We were so uncomfortable we almost ate the cost and left and if the valet was still open past 10 we would have.
We both simultaneously woke at 5AM to the sounds of early risers using the steps and floor above and the neighbors with the shared 4x4 breezeway to our rooms.
Upon checkout when asked how our stay was we told them how uncomfortable that room is and of the exact reasons for our poor experience. A manager came out and apologized and gave us $75 off and said he’d note to never put us in that room again. I wasn’t expecting a comp’d room or anything but $75 off an $850 one night stay and a notation in your system is laughable. Don’t stress the notation cause we won’t be returning anytime soon.
The Virginia is a nice hotel and we are not serial complainers when it comes to this stuff. But honestly we expressed to management that it was unfair

Celebrated our 55th wedding anniversary. In our room upon arrival we were treated to a plate of six good size chocolate covered strawberries.
Food & drinks: Absolutely the best bar in town. Leo makes the best drinks!

My husband and I booked a stay at the Virginia Hotel via a phone call directly to the hotel after winning a gift certificate. I told the staff on the phone that I had a gift certificate and they informed me to bring it and it would be applied to the cost of the room at check out. Upon check out, I was told by the manager that it looked like my reservation was made online and they could not use my gift certificate. After showing the manager my phone log which proved I called the hotel directly to book my room, the manager stated he didn't know why his system was showing the reservation was made online. He stated there must of been some kind of hacking of the phone call that redirected my call and changed how my reservation was made. Whatever happened that changed my reservation was an error on the hotel's side, not my own- which the manager agreed, it was fault of the hotel. However, he refused to honor my gift certificate, refused to refund my money, refused to issue me another gift certificate for use at a future stay. While we did enjoy our stay, the terrible customer service by the staff and the manager put a damper on our weekend.

The Virginia Hotel is one of the crown jewels of Cape May. The staff and management provided impeccable customer service from the moment we walked in to the moment we departed. Our room was cozy and very comfortable. And the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. We had dinner in the Ebbitt room and what a superb experience. Once again, impeccable service topped off with delectable food in a beautiful Victorian setting. The entire staff at the Virginia Hotel and Ebbitt Room went above and beyond to make our stay as perfect as possible. And they definitely accomplished it. Special thanks to Trey, Milos our server and Nicholas the General Manager. Thanks for making our stay so wonderful and memorable. We look forward to returning soon.

We’ve stayed at The Virginia before at The Red Cottage. This time it was The Pink Cottage and it was better than before. Cozy, warm and inviting. Everyone on staff gives new meaning to the word “hospitality”, but I feel that special attention needs to be brought upon one person in particular. I know first-hand it’s not easy being a breakfast server, but Trey not only makes it look easy, but you can tell he loves his job and where he works. Trey takes pride in being warm and welcoming to his guests and is a testament to The Virginia’s reputation. Thanks to all for providing a wonderful weekend to my family!

Another magical mother daughter holiday weekend at The Virginia! Although always a great place to stay, the Virginia is most magical at Christmas time. Interior and exterior holiday decorations are exquisite! You can have breakfast delivered to your room every morning. The selections are diverse and equally enjoyable!Sitting on the porch with a holiday cocktail watching all of the festive comings and goings is one of our favorite things to do. Highly recommend! This year, Trey shined as an outstanding employee. He truly adds to the high class and ambiance found at the Virginia.Treat yourself and make visiting the Virginia a holiday tradition!
