Always an attitude from the employees in the store when you go here. We've had enough. You can get hardware much cheaper from Amazon. Lumber is way less at Home Depot.

Helpful staff and a good selection of products at reasonable, competitive prices. They are good at referring to other local businesses if they do not carry what you are looking for. If they do not have what you need on-hand they can most likely order it and get it to you within a week.

Have visited the store multiple times since moving here about a year ago. Every single time it's like I walked into a small town store that 'everybody knows your name.' Every single employee is super helpful, super friendly and it's a lovely atmosphere. The pint we purchased from there was top notch, Benjamin Moore- the colors were blended perfectly. They always have items in stock for painting and household wares, but also good seasonal items like seeds, soil, mulch, shovels & pushers for instance. They also provided services like rescreening windows and doors, something I can do at home but with two littles it's just too much of a hassle. Brought it on down and for a decent price got a new screen in 3 days. Love supporting small businesses like this, even better that they're a few minutes away

Me: (After looking around, chatting with staff, generally having a good time at a hardware store) "Why does anyone go to Home Depot!?" Califon Lumber employee: "...Masochism?" Let me clarify. I am somewhat new to the area, living down the street for about 3.5 years, but have been to this store many, many times. And for great reason. I have dabbled in the DIY. I built a chicken coop. I refinished furniture. I plant a small garden every summer. I was going to Hackettstown to go to their Home Depot. I got lost at said Home Depot. I did not find answers there. I was a sad shell of a DIYer. When you go to Califon Lumber, you do not only get all of the same supplies you were looking for at Home Depot, but you get helped by some awesome neighbors who are legit knowledgeable and helpful. They will not only mix you paint but help you when you have questions about what kind of paint you need. They will walk you through what kind of lumber you need. They will help you find the small hardware you need for a project. I am surely a small customer for them-they have local contractors coming for pick ups while I'm there buying two small pieces of pine lumber for a furniture remodel-but they give me the time of day and then some. Shout out to delivery Dave. This man delivers all of the things. Stone gravel, a pallet of rock salt, a bunch of lumber. He is great. Thanks Dave. So why go to Home Depot? Lowes, too. Any of those places. I count Amazon in here as well, though I guess not having to put pants on to shop counts for something. I don't know why you would if you live in this area. Califon Lumber has everything you need at a hardware store, at BETTER prices (I've checked), without feeling like like you lost part of your soul while shopping-better yet feeling accomplished and like you made a purchase from some good, helpful friends. Califon Lumber is just another one of the amazing gems of this small town that surely doesn't exist in most of New Jersey. A perfect small town spot that I saved to review for my 300th Yelp review. We're new to the area, and were happy to find a great local hardware store nearby. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (offered to help carry heavy boxes of paint to the car--in the rain!). They even have a complimentary popcorn machine for customers. Highly recommended!

How does this place have no rating yet?! Califon is fantastic. They are very friendly and have nearly all of the odds and ends you can need, saving you time from going to Hackettstown for Home Depot/Lowes. On top of it, the product line they offer is far superior in quality to the big box stores. They are a great local business that does a great job serving the local community! You always get what you pay for!
