Neither one of us had been to a bed and breakfast before, so weren’t so sure what to expect. But, this was a refreshing change from the typical hotel experience. The location was perfect! We parked the car on Friday and didn’t have to use it all weekend. So convenient to everything. We will definitely be back! Thank you!?

This is a great little place in an old historic home. The rooms are very small but comfortable. The real value lies in its awesome location, just a 5 minute walk away from all the shops and restaurants in downtown Portsmouth.

I was on my way back from Blue Hill to NJ and decided that Portsmouth would be a great place to meet maritime history and so I did. My Choice for this visit was this gem! very comfortable located just a few steps to historic and beautiful downtown with tons of great restaurants and bars.
The Sailmaker's House was a perfect choice. Clean, very comfortable beds. Totally enjoyable with all amenities you can wish for. And easy to communicate with! Thank you!

Really enjoyed our stay at the hotel Thaxter this week. The staff was warm and welcoming. Very helpful. The location was perfect just around the corner from Jimmy’s Jazz and Blues Club. The room was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We Will definitely be returning!

This trip was our second time staying at The Sailmakers House and again it did not disappoint. Their communication is top notch, the ease and convenience of self check in is stress free and simple. As a bonus there is a nice area for tea/coffee and snacks as well as a refrigerator to store leftovers. The location is a very quick walk to all the shopping and eating. Highly
Recommend if you’re looking for a weekend getaway.

The Sailmaker’s House has an unbeatable location right in downtown Portsmouth very near stores, restaurants, etc. The rooms aren’t huge, but they’re clean and cozy. The bathroom was well-lit and spotless. Be advised, in case you have a second floor room, that the stairs are steep. Overall, it’s definitely an older building, so the design reflects that (smaller common spaces, twistier hallways than you might be used to). For us, the old New England feel was a charming plus, but might not be everyone’s cup of tea. The house still seemed to get plenty of natural light and was quiet, too. We mostly couldn’t hear other guests. We didn’t interact with staff in-person, it was all done by email and text. That said, those interactions were pleasant and prompt, and we really enjoyed our stay.
Walkability: Downtown is all very walkable from the hotel.
Food & drinks: Fezziwig’s has fantastic food and tea if you’re looking for something a little out of the ordinary (also a great romantic spot). Durbar Square has great Nepali food, and don’t miss the sliders at the Clipper Tavern.

This hotel was amazing!! We stayed for a quiet weekend and found it to be super close to downtown Portsmouth. We had a car, but basically walked the entire trip since everything was within 2-10 minutes walk. The room was incredibly cozy and clean. They even left us flowers because we were celebrating an important occasion! Truly can't recommend this place enough and would love to comeback during the summer!

Sailmakers was a great option for my husband and me for our stay in Portsmouth. It was quiet and cozy, clean and welcoming, and features nice little extras like a coffee/snack area, a small common area with nice music piped in, and ample suggestions on where to go to eat.
