These are the best people I have ever interacted with. My dog has cancer and Dr Kow and his folks go so far above what is expected it is amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough

$640 a car that was almost reprocessed because I had to pay these people and a deceased cat- my whole heart ripped out of my chest :/ not much more to say spent an hour there with a 10% survival chance that’s insane amounts of money and to add insult to the injury I had to go find a pawn shop or beg family or else be held hostage in there til my fire cut deposit hit at midnight

I would like to start by saying that my fur baby Stevie Ray received excellent care and compassion from Dr. Sage Hubert (cardiology) and Ryan (cardiology) but it was down hill after that. Stevie Ray went to Rainbow Bridge on 14 December 2023. It was one of the most difficult decisions that I had to make because he still looked healthy. I was taken into a room where I was given choices for what I wanted done with his remains prior to spending my last minutes or hours with him. I chose the cremation with his ashes being spread at a pet cemetery and his paw print. I indicated at that time that I would like to pick up the paw print and was told it would be ready the following day. I am not from NH but I did give a local address which was repeated to me twice. I called on 15 December to check on the paw print and was told that it was not ready. I called again on 18 December and received the same response. I received a call from Magdalena on 19 December informing me that the paw print was mailed to me and an apology for the delay. This was my first time ordering the paw print so I was anxiously awaiting the arrival. I was leaving to go home for Christmas on Thursday 21 December. When I returned on 27 December I called Port City Vet because I had not received anything and this is the point where things went down hill quickly. The paw print was mailed to an incorrect address and not only was it incorrect but it didn't exist. I was still grieving and heartbroken. I was assured that it would be returned and just to give it time. Well, I still don't have it. I went to the Portsmouth post office to inquire about the package and they didn't have it. I was asked for a tracking # which I did not have but I was sure Port City vet would have a tracking #. I called Magdalena on 2 January 2024 to get the tracking number and she tells me there isn't a tracking # it was sent regular mail in an envelope. I cannot believe that there is not a paper trail for this item. It could be sitting on shelf at the hospital and they wouldn't know. This is breaking my heart and extending the grieving process and to add insult to injury Magdalena's attitude has changed in less than a week. Her exact words were " we gave you a refund, I'm sorry this happened and I don't know what else to say." So now I have 4 problems! 1. I was not given the opportunity to pick up the paw print 2. It was sent to an address that doesn't exist 3. No way to track the package and 4. Magdalena. I wasn't aware that grace and compassion had an expiration date. I asked Magdalena to send me a copy of Stevie Ray's final disposition, which I have not received. I inquired about corrective actions and was told "the matter has been addressed." This should be a terminationation for someone. This is negligence and unprofessional. I wanted that that last bit of Stevie Ray who was a loyal companion and travel buddy for 12. 5 years. I do hope that someone will stay on top of this. It's not my responsibility to go to the post office but I will continue until I give up hope. This has been devastating and hurtful. Magdalena said she would have a manager call me but she didn't know when that would happen. Totally disappointed in this entire process but I do hope that someone will stay on top of this inspite of the bad review but you all left me no choice. I feel hurt, disrespected and discarded.

We called to get an opinion as to whether we should consider bringing our pup in as she was having multiple diarrhea episodes and one with some blood but otherwise she was acting fine. The person who answered the phone said 'I can't guarantee that your dog will make it through the night. I would never give anyone that hope, but you can't bring her here because we are only taking level 1 trauma." I understand not wanting to give advice without assessing our dog in person, but to say this to someone then tell them basically 'you can't come here, good luck' was very frustrating. We rushed our dog to another urgent care and they were able to give her some fluids/antibiotics and said just to watch her overnight but they were not worried at all. Luckily it all worked out, but we were definitely frustrated with statements made to us over the phone by Port City Vet which were not therapeutic or reassuring which is a very important aspect of patient care.

Heartbreaking Horror Story: Brought my sweet Barney in on New Year's Eve for basic hematuria in urine. He was a little tired but still cheery and playful. I thought he had eaten 600 mg of ibuprofen or perhaps had a bladder / Kidney issue since, as I told the Dr. - he had been whimpering in pain the night before. The doctor who saw him took some tests, but did not take a basic urinalysis or any tests to see if the blood was related to the most obvious reasons for bleeding: bladder / kidney / UTI infection. Or, based on my concern of ingesting a prescription strength Ibuprofen, no tests to check for ulceration causing bleeding. When I told them my dog's poop had some blood in it, they did nothing. She (the vet) did not even consider Ideopathic Renal Hematuria - something dogs get when they just bleed port colored urine (he was doing) and it only takes time to cure, nothing else. All the other possible illnesses would have been simple to cure - hydration, possible antibiotics, and other simple actions. These, however, do not bring in the big bucks. I wish I had time to research all this before they killed Barney. The vets and staff played on my fear for my pup and immediately demanded $6,000 before doing anything to help my dog.Once I paid, before waiting to watch / observe my dog over the course of a little time or taking basic tests, the vet overzealously and quickly diagnosed him with a very serious disease. They took my very mildly anemic dog (25 RBC Count - a moderate anemia which any dog losing blood in urine would experience) and gave him an unneeded transfusion just a very short time after he arrived. ($$cha- ching, both for the vets themselves, and the facility). They did not match him properly and he had a massive reaction to this incompatible transfusion. He dropped immediately to 14 RBC - which is severe because his body rejected the plasma put into him. He was cheery one day, jaundiced and failing the next after being in their care. They chose the worst case and overzealously treated it before considering the simple, easily cured options. They never tested for the basics and never offered alternative options. They proceeded with dangerous procedures without EVER discussing the major risks or getting my approval. When a dog has a reaction to a transfusion, you are supposed to stop immediately and provide therapeutic care. They continued on. And then, within 2 days gave him two more transfusions. They eventually caused Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury after I asked them to slow down with transfusions. He died from this - hypoxia - what’s even worse is they kept him in a state called “bounding” which implies shock and cardiac panic - without putting him on high flow oxygen. He died a horrific gruesome death. They did not care about my dog - they cared about pushing costly, unneeded procedures to rack up a bill. My beloved young dog is dead. And he died alone (they barely monitored him) and needlessly. Please don’t ever trust your animal to this facility. An unwarranted and painful death to a dog who absolutely should have not died. Barney was happy, loving, enjoyed life and cared about his humans. He brought everyone a smile. Goodbye boo boo - my bfff.

Dr Berger and the entire team did a tremendous job with a very difficult and scary time for me. I had to make a very hard decision for my elderly dog and doctor Berger was so kind and compassionate. She was extremely thorough and offered all of the information I needed. Her and the rest of the staff made sure I was comfortable and had both the information and the space I needed to make my decision, then provided the care so I could say goodbye to my furry soul mate in the most peaceful comfortable way possible. I’m so grateful for the team at Port City.

I had heard negative stories about this place but I came home one night to find my 1 year old cat in a very bad state. Drove there as fast as I could.I will say they got him in very quickly and determined the issue. That's where the good ended for our experience. They brought us into the building and were extremely cold when they explained what the issue was. Told us it would be $4,000 for surgery. It was treat or put him to sleep. What was wrong did not require surgery and could have been treated by a regular vet had I left and taken him the following day. Then they tell you that you can't leave with your pet. You have to choose then, treat or euthanize. When I wanted to leave with my cat, they told me they would call the police. In retrospect, I should have wrapped him back in his blanket and left. They really couldn't have stopped me, and I'd have accepted any consequences. This is a regret I will live with forever. In the end, he'd had to cross the rainbow bridge. On the paperwork to get his ashes, they misspelled his name and my last name. The company handling cremation was given incorrect info and almost wasn't able to locate him.I will never bring another pet here.

Heartbreaking Horror Story: Brought my sweet Barney in on New Year's Eve for basic hematuria in urine because my vet was not opened. He was a little tired but still cheery and playful. When a dog has a reaction to a transfusion, you are supposed to stop immediately and provide therapeutic care. They continued on. And then, within 2 days gave him two more transfusions. Once an internist finally looked at my dog, two days later after transfusions that caused the decline of my dog's health, she told me that my dog "Did not fully Tick the Box" for the issue that they prematurely diagnosed my dog with. She mentioned she saw material (crystals?) and red blood cells in his urine that needed further testing. This must be a very hard position for her to be in since she was just licensed five months prior and of course, starting out with a newish job. It was too late, my dog had already been too damaged by unneeded risky procedures. They eventually caused Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury after I asked them to slow down with transfusions. He died from this - hypoxia -and circulatory overload caused by the Transfusion Related Lung Injury. What's even worse is they kept him in a state called "bounding" which implies shock and cardiac panic for five hours- without putting him on high flow oxygen. He died a horrific, gruesome death when he probably had a simple issue that could have been cured without hospitaization. They did not care about my dog - they cared about pushing costly, unneeded procedures to rack up a bill. My beloved young dog is dead. And he died alone (they barely monitored him) and needlessly. Please don't ever trust your animal to this facility.

I've had the unfortunate pleasure of bringing my dog here on a few separate occasions. Every time I've gone the staff have been absolutely wonderful and have always taken the time to answer any questions I may have. Late last night I brought in my boy, and though we were both tired and stressed, the positive and kind attitudes of everyone working that night was very welcoming. The vet he saw (Kristine) was very patient, honest, and transparent with me through every step of the way. And the tech that was there (Lexi) was an absolute angel. She has an incredibly sweet demeanor and has a clear passion and love for what she does. She presents herself almost from the perspective of your pet sometimes, in a really empathetic way. It was something I've never seen before in anyone who works with animals but it was pretty cool to experience. I could not ask for a better emergency team, especially one who works overnights. I can't say enough good things and I really appreciate everything these people do.

I heard story and nightmares of this place. First time I took my best pal down they where fantastic, 2nd time it was horrible they couldn't get the muzzle on but took over a half an hour before they ask me for help, when they brought him back into the room he was covered in hydrogen peroxide his whole belly was wet, had two cones on him, three leeshes and not the same muzzle I put on him, this third and last time I had no choice in which under 15 mins they diagnosed him with a tumor around his heart and was ready to put him down and this is when they already had a full house late night extremely busy. How was he diagnosed with a x-ray or ultrasound in that few mins. I paid them there $700 and took my pal him waiting till Monday to take him to his regular vet just to get the cold shoulder from them not willing to even look at him with thousands of dollars maybe 10 plus just to get a 2nd look, dover veterans hospital. If your gut feeling tells you something is not right go with it don't listen to what they say many many animals have been misdiagnosed by different vets do your research

Port City was absolutely wonderful! We brought our dog in for an acute sickness on Friday evening and we were seen immediately and given the best possible treatment. Everyone we interacted with, from staff to doctors, was kind, personable, compassionate and so sweet to our dog! We felt very comfortable leaving him there for overnight treatment and had all of our questions answered with care. I would not hesitate to bring our pets there in the future and highly recommend their care.

Dr. Catherine Stecyk and the surgical team repaired my best friend’s CCL knee tears. My dog was doubly lame to now post op back to FULLY functioning hind limbs!!! The surgery saved my dog’s life and mine at the same time. I have my trail exercise buddy back now!! ❤️ and the lady that does the pre surgery and post surgery communication called Michelle, wow, she tends to nervous doggie mommas needs just like the surgery team cared for my Holly girl! With care and precision ❤️?❤️

I arrived somewhere around 10:30ish for my dogs UTI, they told me they were going to do some blood work and get some urine. I brought in a sample for them I took that morning of urine but no not good enough they have to sedate her and keep me waiting for 3 hours now! I am literally in the waiting room as I write this. So many dogs have gone in and out been treated and I am still waiting, completely ridiculous considering normally my vet does this in under 20 minutes. They were booked out and didn't have any openings soon so I took her here. Atrocious care seems like they only car about the money! They're probably traumatizing my dog in the back as she is scared of others and my vet usually has me help. They seriously suck so so bad its messed up! Never bringing my dog here again terrible, greedy, and unprofessional! This place give me animal abuse vibes, many dogs that came out were screaming and Ive never seen that before two of them were screaming nonstop the whole way out! Ill literally drive 4 hours instead of coming to this sharthole again. The receptionist’s sit there snacking and chatting doing absolutely nothing useful to update me either. If I could give negative stars I would I cannot emphasize how much this place sucks!
