I enjoyed my stay at the Ale House Inn. It’s conveniently located in charming Portsmouth, NH and an easy to walk to restaurants, coffee shops, shopping, etc. They do not have desk staff after 3pm but their communication was FANTASTIC and we knew exactly where to park, how to enter the building, how to enter our rooms via electronic key, who to contact if we needed anything and their response time was so fast. I would definitely stay again if I’m in the area.
Rooms: My room was quaint, it wasn’t fancy but it had everything I needed for my stay. My colleague and I noted that our rooms had probably the most comfortable hotel bed we’ve ever slept in.
Walkability: Portsmouth is a darling town. It felt sleepy and safe while we were there (April) and I don’t think I would hesitate to walk by myself, if I were alone. There were lots of restaurants, bars, and shopping nearby.
Noteworthy details: The only thing that someone may want to know about is there is a large-ish stairway leading up to the entrance and no elevator until you enter the building. That could be an issue for someone with physical limitations or heavy luggage. I don’t recall it being mentioned when I booked my stay but could absolutely make a difference for someone on whether it is a good fit for them.

Very quiet little Inn. Room was very clean, but small. If booking through Priceline or 3rd party, they do not tell you that staff leaves the building at 5 so be sure to check in by then or call to let them know when you are arriving. Close to many great shops and restaurants, also beautiful views of the boats on the water. I'll certainly be staying here again on my next work trip.

This place was on full lockdown - and for some reason the Portsmouth Inn was taking their calls.I inquired about a room and got nowhere. What a joke.

Very cool place. Interesting concept. Wonderful location with parking. Also next to the little repertory theater. Definitely no frills but I would definitely stay there again. Clean and unassuming very functional and extremely cool.

My family of four LOVED our stay at Ale House Inn. The location is fantastic. We were within walking distance to restaurants and all of the shopping areas. The king suite was spacious and offered modern amenities with a beautiful view. We enjoyed playing games in the quaint common area, and especially enjoyed the ice, water, tea, and various complimentary snacks. The Nitro coffee on tap seemed really cool, but my family doesn't drink coffee. Other guests were raving about it. The extremely friendly staff only made our experience that much more enjoyable. The pull out couch really needs an upgrade to the mattress, but that's our only critique.Rooms: The inn offered keyless entry.Safety: We had an access code to enter the main building.Walkability: We did not need our car at all. The inn is within walking distance to many sho, restaurants, cafes, and bars.Food & drinks: The inn offered complimentary ice, water, tea, Nitro coffee on tap, and a variety of snacks.

Our stay was pleasant overall! The location is ideal for anybody who wants to go out and explore Portsmouth on foot. The digital key system was a little funky but luckily the front desk was able to provide us with physical key cards for our room. My boyfriend LOVED that there was water and coffee on tap in the common area.

Perfect place to stay in Portsmouth. The hotel is pretty, comfy, centrally located, the host was very nice and the check in / check out was smooth. Our room was quite comfortable as well! Would definitely come back!

Although the location was fabulous and this was very walkable to most attractions I was disappointed in the amenities. The rooms were fine overall (clean, decent size, no real view but that's okay). This location operates more like an AirBnB than a hotel room- staff is not on site or available after 6pm and the only way to communicate is to call the emergency help line. If it had just been that no one was on site but they could be reached that would be fine but outside of their hours they are also not available via the phone line. The air conditioning is controlled in the hallway for the entire building therefore you cannot control the temperature in your own room (it was over 75 degrees in our room all night). For the price I paid I would have expected an experience similar to a hotel with access to staff in case anything came up. Had I known at booking no one would be on site I would have opted to pay a little bit more and stay at a traditional hotel.
