“A Hidden Gem Along the River in a charming city.Nestled in the heart of Exeter, New Hampshire, Water Street Bookstore is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered by book lovers and travelers alike.During a recent road trip, I stumbled upon this quaint bookstore, and I couldn't have been more delighted with my find. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the warm smiles of the staff, who were not only friendly but also incredibly knowledgeable and eager to assist, making my browsing experience all the more enjoyable. The book selection is perfect and curated with care, ensuring that every title is worthy of attention (leaving here and there some little cards with book reviews by the staff members). The real highlight lies at the back of the store, where a vast window overlooks the river flowing by. As I perused the shelves, I found myself drawn to this serene spot, where people go to read their book and sip a coffee or leave a message in notebooks left there for our convenience.I will sure come back!”
“The most precious little shop I’ve ever seen. It is intimate and cozy. Quite literally packed floor to ceiling with books. It is an experience. We had done no research prior to our visit and were pleasantly surprised by a visit from the owner’s beautiful cat. It was our first trip to Portsmouth and I can’t wait to come back simply to stop in this store again. I snagged a signed copy of a book I’d been eyeing. Truly a must see on any trip to Portsmouth or the surrounding area!”
“Quaint little ? bookstore with a section for teens and children. Old fashion typewriters are for sale and the owner even will repair old typewriters. I heard that typewriters are making a comeback so if you plan on being a ?''Paperback Writer ", this bookstore will be a great ? place to start! Beatle's music was playing when I visited. The man who was working the day I visited was very friendly and helpful. We talked about the history of the weather ☁️ of Portsmouth.”
“It’s an excellent store! The owners are such gems: kind, warm, and very helpful! I love the selection of toys and books. My daughters have also loved getting to meet authors during their events.”
“I love the bookstore! The employees are very friendly and helpful. I recommend the quick reference guides (photo included), especially if you've been out of school for a while or are having trouble with a particular subject. I always grab a couple when I'm there. The prices are great as well.”

“This place is a hidden treasure trove. If you love history and old books, this place is fantastic. Most of it are books on military history, but there’s a lot of books on local history, old fiction novels, and biographies of historical figures. The owner is incredibly friendlyand Knowledgeable.”
“It is really nice to visit a bookstore and spend time browsing. The staff here were pleasant and helpful. I picked up a couple of classic political philosophy titles that I would not have thought about from online stores. There is nothing as good as holding a print edition while reading. I read a quote recently that stated, you should own what you read. I agree. I'd rate five stars if books weren't so expensive.”
