This used bookstore is located in a petite, jam-packed second-floor venue, with shelves overflowing into the stairway leading up to it. It's been around since 1999 and almost folded during Covid, but a new owner took it over and is keeping it alive thanks in no small part to donated inventory from the community. In particular, retiring or moving professors might donate boxes of books here, complete with notes scribbled inside. Some might find this endearing, others insightful; it all adds to the serendipity of finding something totally unexpected at a shop like this. Indeed, you might be able to find out-of-print books or editions here, like a whole shelf full of hardcover Henry Kingsley novels. Given the bookstore's location, the inventory has a decided literary bent to it, but to me what stood out was the diversity of it all. Not to mention the fact that you're buying sustainably.

Pleasant shop. It is small, so some "sections" are a single shelf. Above average poetry section for the size. The books in stock were in good condition generally. They have some rare books and first editions if you are a collector. Worth stopping if you are in town but not a special trip destination for bookhounds.

I always find a really well curated selection of books, and I always walk out with a handful of serendipitous discoveries that I would never find if I relied on Amazon algorithms. The owner, Rena, is a treasure trove of knowledge and had some great recommendations for me. Left Banks is a must-visit store for students and anyone passing through Hanover.

Very broad and interesting selection. A lot of books off the beaten path which is very interesting. If you're looking for something specific it might be hard to find but it is an excellent spot for a browse at the least. The workers are very kind and helpful, an old school style spot

Amazingly large number of interesting books I'd never seen, when considering the size of the store. We hesitate to add to our piles of books on our bedside tables but ended up buying another half-dozen each. Great collection!

In June 2019 I entered this book store, searching for some books for my 4 and 1/2 years old (back then) girl. The seller - a very positive and patient lady - took a lot of time to make an interesting selection of books. As of writing this, my daughter is 6 1/2. And those books, particularly "Click Clack Moo Cows That Type" and "Frog and Toad" have proved instrumental in giving her a jump-start to reading.I do not remember how much I paid for the books. But their importance in my daughter's progress was priceless.Thank you very much, Left Bank Books.

Good selection of used books but everything is priced high. Books were mostly in good condition, and the selection was nicely limited to desirable titles Steep climb up a big flight of stairs to get in, which I don’t mind at all but just something to be mindful of if choosing to visit.

Dear Left Bank Books...received the book I ordered today....and you had thoughtfully protected it by wrapping it like a gift. I am grateful to have found this book...and grateful to you for the fine service and care in mailing it to me.
