Stopped in for first time to pick up what I think is a common item for 220V work, a #2-#8 sized splice kit or 3 pole block. These are cylinders with set screws on each end that let you insert the wire into the ends to couple them together and their good for up to 600V and depending on model 60-150A. A 3 pole one from Square D is just the 3 splice cylinders in a block It's an ideal way to extend 220V circuits and less bulky and easier to use than wire nuts which at that gauge of wire dont' fit well in a junction box..
