“So, I was looking to sell my car. And, Joe and his girlfriend, reached out, with interest in buying it from me. I brought it to them and my mom met me there, in case I needed a ride home, should they go through with the purchase. Joe looked it over and took it for a test drive. Upon his return, he told me that there were quite few problems and that he couldn't buy it, for what I was asking. He said, that most of the issues were minor and that it was still a pretty solid and safe vehicle, should i just put about $600 into repairs. And, he said, if i did go have the work done, that he would give me the full $1500. I was super discouraged. But, I appreciated how genuine and straightforward he was. Before my mom and I knew it, we were sitting in the office and he was taking time out of his busy schedule, to talk with us about what our options were and giving me endless advice, regarding potentially selling it, what it could look like if I kept it and showing genuine concern regarding the next vehicle, I had already invested some money in and was buying.
The one thing, that got me, the most, was that I was explaining how the car I was purchasing, once I sold the vehicle I currently had, was said to just need an alternator and that every other shop, was quoting me at over $700 for the service. Joe stopped me, right there and said, that they were way overcharging me and that he does that service for $100. I couldn't even believe it.
So, even though, I was unable to make the sale with them, I felt that it wasn't nearly a wasted trip!
Fast forward to this morning, I happened upon someone, who desperately needed a good vehicle. I was up front and honest about the situation and the things that were wrong. And, the person who was interested, just so happened to have their own family run, full service auto body and mechanics shop! She only asked that I take $200 off of my original price and drove it away!
Even better, I now have a place, where I know my next vehicle, will be safely and honestly taken care of. So, I will be having our new vehicle, towed to his shop.
So, not only, was I given insight that made it possible, for me to inform the buyer of our other vehicle, of what they were actually getting themselves into and still get what i needed out of the situation, but, I also ended up, with a place I can trust 100% for all of my future auto repairs!!
