Excellent high quality place--whenever Clayton works on my Kharman Ghia, it runs even better. Excellent honest mechanic I have know for decades. In fact I am still running the Ghia on an engine he rebuilt about twenty years ago and is still performing well. Really knows what he is doing when it comes to air cooled VW's. All kinds of experience to include building racing engines. When you find mechanics this good, you hope they never retire. I wish I could get him to work on all my classic cars but he pretty much specializes these days.

Awesome place to take your VW. Took my 68 double cab there for a trans axle swap out and a new fuel sender unit. Great work.

What can i say, saved my 68 bus when i killed my motor in the black rock desert. Clayton was busy but had a motor for me and enabled me to swap the new motor in myself! Onward

Called and he had the rear fresh air tin for my 1200 engine. Part is very difficult to locate and not offered by VW parts websites. Price paid was very fair. Nice talking about vintage VDubs, also. Thank you my friend!

I have taken my '72 Westfalia to Clayton for over 4 years now. Each time the service is fast and done well.

I don't know why he doesn't have 5 stars. I went to scudders performance for some used parts when my car was hit. Clayton was very cool and gave me a shop tour. He showed me pictures of cars that he built and told me stories about some cars that he raced. I can tell that he takes pride in his work. He has an organized back yard with used parts that are still good. I bought a bumper and some bumper mounts that shined right up with some paint and metal polish. I saw a review by Lou I. stating that he over payed for an engine. It's funny that he's complaining on Yelp and complaining about how he over payed when he handed over the money himself. I personally think his engines are worth every penny, since he only builds them with german parts. I got my engine rebuilt with Brazilian and mexican parts by a mechanic in california, but i could've bought an engine for 100 bucks more from clayton with german parts.

I went just to be curious. I'm all GM but always wanted a classic VW. I finally passed by but it looked closed cause it's the end of the day but I called anyway. Mr Scudder answered and I asked if the shop was still open he said yes. He invited me to come in and I introduced myself. We started talking about my VW itch? but a paying customer came in and he addressed by name which is cool right! personal touch. I had no problem waiting but as I was waiting just listening to their conversation was interesting because I understood everything he was explaining to the customer so I felt good of what I knew about VW's. Eventually I got involved in the conversation haha. It was cool. When he left Mr Scudders gave me a grand tour of the whole shop!!? explained what happens in each station from engine block or case preparation to assembly and transmissions, air ride suspensions you name it. From custom builds to regular maintenance. Raising or lowering to your liking. Man I had a great first time experience even as a non classic VW owner. I tell you what!! This experience just solidifies what I see and read about owning a classic VW. It's not just owning one, it's an investment into meeting good people, making friends while owning a classic VW ??This is cool!! I need a classic VW haha. I think I'm selling my built chevy truck to get one. Hmmm let see????
