If you have any emergency that needs quick attention you can forget this place. I'm close to an original member. They changed their system one year and I was almost stuck in Thailand with no money. Now I'm in the hospital 2 weeks, cannot speak, and my Visa card was stolen. I reported it online & said it went through but I got NO conformation but several emails saying to contact by chat WHICH DOESN'T WORK. LAMEST bank EVER!

They had a fee free ATM that worked for my credit union. I didn't go inside. Nice parking lot and easy access.

In all honesty the personnel I’ve encountered each time I’ve had to call in are difficult to deal with. Often times they do not provide clear answers, and other times they cannot give any assistance/direction. I have banked with them for several years, but one bad interaction after another has left me looking for another credit union.

We have been banking with Great Basin for over 10 years. The first few years, they were great, but they have consistently gone down hill from charging "preliminary over draft fees" as their customer service calls it, when you're not even overdrawn, not actually processing stop payments, but keeping your money, to the absolute HORRIBLE and INCOMPETENT customer service. I haven't had a good experience here in almost 5 years, which is sad since I've referred several people to them. After 10 years, we will be closing our account and advising anyone we've referred to them to consider closing their accounts as well, especially because the terrible service is a general consensus. At this point, I'd rather bank with Wells Fargo or Bank of America. I don't know what happened, but they should seriously figure it out before they lose even more business than they already have. Seriously, take your money anywhere else, literally anywhere. Keep it in a box under the bed. At least there you won't be scammed and stolen from by a credit union who thinks they can do whatever they feel like with zero repercussions.

Last year I went back to Great Basin Credit Union in the hope they'd improved their customer service since I left them in 2019.Their web site is still empty boasts --in the manner of snollygoster George Santos. Was barely tolerable for a few months. Then, sadly and frustratingly for me and expensively to me, Great Basin Credit Union's customer service is again terrible.Great Basin Credit Union is still ungrateful to Active Duty and Veterans as has NO Military Veterans Discount.Nothing is a greater stranger to my breast, or a sin that my soul more abhors, than that black and detestable one, ingratitude. --General George Washington, 1st US PresidentFebruary is Black History MonthStory of Richard Etheridge, first black American keeper of Pea Island, North Carolina Lifeboat Station, is an inspiring chapter in the celebrated history of the US Coast Guard lifeboat station that was built during the winter of 1878-79. Etheridge assumed command in 1880. Pea Island was staffed by black Americans until the station was closed in 1947, after which the area became a wildlife refuge.Pea Island Lifeboat Station logged numerous rescues. One was 11 October 1896, when three-masted schooner E. S. Newman was caught in a terrifying storm. En route from Providence , Rhode Island to Norfolk, Virginia, the vessel was blown south, 100 miles off course, and slammed onto the beach two miles south of the Pea Island Station. Storm was so severe that Etheridge had suspended normal beach patrol that day. But the alert eyes of Surfman Theodore Meekins saw the first distress flare and Meekins immediately notified Etheridge.Etheridge and his crew fought their way through the roaring breaks to reached the stricken schooner. They then journeyed through the perilous waters ten times to rescue every one of the nine persons on board. For this action the Pea Island Life-Saving Station was awarded the Gold Life-Saving Medal. 29 February 1992, the Coast Guard Cutter Pea Island was commissioned at Norfolk, Virginia, in memory of the black American crews stationed at Pea Island. One of the early black Americans of the Pea Island Station, Joseph H. Berry, Surfman, retired in 1917 after 15 years of Service at Pea Island.Black American Maxie Berry, Sr., Officer-in-Charge of Pea Island during World War II, Served 25 years and retired as a US Coast Guard Chief Boatswain's Mate.Maxie M. Berry, Jr., retired as a US Coast Guard Lieutenant Commander 1 September 1976, after last stationed in the Office of Civil Rights at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington , D.C.Another son of Maxie Sr., Zion H. Berry, also Served in the Coast Guard.

10/11/2022It doesn't hurt to have too many credit unions... Our local branch nearby will be closing (one location, actually turning it into a loan facility) and that led me to think of opening up an account here.Since my auto loan is here, why not have a checking acct..Got our atm/debit cards on the spot and we are good to go!

Horrible customer service when I used the live video teller. I spoke to 3 different people within the video teller and on the phone. Very unprofessional and rude. There are other credit unions that have better customer service and services. I will NOT use this bank much longer!

I needed to deposit a check and get some cash back but their new "video ATM" machine is terrible and wouldn't work, so I left.

The loan process is very vague. I applied for a car loan for a "blanket amount" in order to get pre-approved before I start shopping. I applied online. My only communication with the credit union was through their "secure message portal". When they "counter-offered" with a different loan amount than was requested, I assumed that was my spending limit. So I proceed with confidence to the car dealer and picked out a car. When I sent the retail purchase agreement to Great Basin, they again "counter offered" but there were no details to be found in my secure message portal. I called three times and left a voicemail. A few days passed, and the car dealer canceled the transaction due to lack of payment. When I finally received a call from a human at Great Basin Federal Credit Union, I asked for an explanation of why they wouldn't fund the loan. It turned out that they only wanted to finance 80% of the purchase price of the car, which is fair but was not communicated whatsoever until that final phone call. If I had those details in the beginning, I could have made a better decision.

It was inconvenient for me to pay for items with my credit card, that was supposedly activated 3 weeks ago. I’m currently overseas and my partner has a credit card that works. What’s worse is the on line teller indicated to me that the card was “good to go” today, after a lengthy snotty response from the teller. Right now I’m extremely disappointed in GBCU and would not recommend this bank to anyone.

This bank is horrible. Service is slow with incompetent employees. Don't say "we'll be right with you" when your on your phone swiping at whatever. Avoid at all cost.
