I’d be a little leery of having these guys do work on your car air conditioner. My Subaru cross treck AC/heater just stop blowing air. I took it to these guys. They charge me $99 for a diagnostic and told me they had to replace the fan, the control panel for $1100 and at that point only the heater would work. It would be about another $400 to get the air conditioner work. When the fellow there was explaining to me, what was wrong he wasn’t very clear. Because my air conditioner was working fine up until the point it stopped blowing. I was about to go ahead and have them do the work but my gut was telling me somethings wrong here. I had even given them my keys and called an Uber to take me back to the house but at the last minute I took my keys back and canceled the Uber and drove out of there. I went down to Pasadena California and took it to another air conditioning specialist And he told me it was the control panel wiring that was messed up. So they replaced the control panel and fix the wiring for $800… and they completed it in a couple of hours.I still probably over paid but it was a whole lot better than $1400. After I got it back, everything was fine. The air conditioner work and the heater worked.I strongly recommend you get a second opinion, and do not believe everything these folks tell you!Even though I drove to Southern California with no heater or AC, I felt like I won this battle… I’m not very mechanical, but I urge everybody trust your gut!

I always take my car here for any problems or maintenance. This time they replaced my water pump, and I felt the charge was competitive. They were kind to answer my questions and are always good to work with.

I admit, the initial customer service impression made by American Auto Air And Repair is pretty good. They are good on the phone, friendly in person, easy to work with if you need to leave your car there a few days prior to your appointment. However, their mechanical ineptitude would preclude me from taking my car there again. Every time I take my car to a shop, it saddens me greatly because I know there's a risk of something being done in, let's say, a hurry. Or not up to my standards. But sometimes I just don't have the time or special tools to get the job done.So when the A/C in my 20-year old Tacoma gave up the ghost, I took a gamble and dropped it off there in July 2022. Turns out most everything needed replaced: the liquid line, the evaporator core, the receiver dryer, and the condenser. Surprisingly, the compressor was still good. The parts pricing was fair. I do enough work on my truck to know these things are not cheap. We had a pleasant dialog to go over each part they needed to order, and they worked with me on keeping the costs down. The job cost me a little under $1,900 out the door, and the work was completed in a prompt fashion. The A/C works great, and continues to work great today, a little over a year later. One nitpick: I expected to receive documentation showing high/low side system pressure, and before/after measurements of the temperature at center of the air distribution outlet. This is routine for any A/C service and makes me question whether this routine work was performed -- probably not.Good communication, fair pricing, prompt service -- why a bad review? Two weeks after the work, I noticed the interior of the truck smelled of mold, and discovered the passenger side carpet was musty and sopping wet. It turns out, when replacing the evaporation core, the mechanic neglected to re-install the enclosure so that its condensate drain ran through its firewall grommet. I took a picture of this, you can see daylight from inside the cabin where the drain tube should go! The condensate from the A/C was therefore draining into the interior passenger footwell, instead of passing through the firewall and draining to the exterior. I had to fabricate my own drain tube out of drip irrigation line and zip-tie it in place. I also had to take out the floor liner and clean it with bleach and put a commercial air dryer on it.Concerned with other short-cuts, I attempted to removed the grill of my truck to inspect the rest of their repair work, and the grill fell off into my hands. Four of the five plastic clips holding it on had been broken by the last person who took it off. While I realize the truck is old and these plastic clips break off all the time, the shop should have informed me of the problem and let me know they would either have to order new ones, or at least do what I did and zip-tie the grill in place to keep it from flying off at highway speeds, but this did not happen. This would be a 2-star review, except for one last thing:I understand that mechanics have to rush to get things done, especially in a shop like this with so many service bays. And not everybody knows enough about cars to double-check the work done. I wrote an actual paper letter and took the time to snail-mail it to the shop, with pictures of the issues and expressed concern of short-comings that their mechanic had taken. It was very polite and informative. This was over a year ago, and I never got any response from the shop at all. It is this egregious disdain for the customer that reduces my review down to 1 star. It's too bad, I had such high hopes, but after the dangerous shortcomings taken with my truck, and the apparent lack of concern when these shortcomings were properly documents and reported, I would certainly never recommend anyone go to this shop.

Currently working with them to get my AC fixed. Mike is fantastic! Great customer service! He even went the extra mile to help us find a more affordable compressor since it was covered under our warranty insurance. They always answer the phone right away, and make sure they explain themselves in depth so the customer knows exactly what is going on. Love the transparency! Thank you Mike for all your hard work!Service: Auto A/C replacement

Good grief!! You just don’t get amazing customer service like this anymore!!!! Waaay above and beyond to get my AC fixed within a short window of time so I could be on the road traveling for my job again. I can’t sing the praises enough of Mike, Jim (the mechanic who worked fast and precisely!) and Mike’s son (the brains behind their computer systems). All are the long-lost combo of caring and professional. A million thanks to you all! ~ Merrit Shuler

My first review on this company was a one star. After given time, the good quality of the service conducted outweighed the poor customer service I received at the time. The AC outfit they conducted on my old truck was very expensive, but turned out to be great, which made me change my review to reflect the good job they did, at the end of the day. I would recommend them.Services: A/C installation & repair

We decided to take our SUV here to have the Air conditioning checked out. It was blowing cool air but not as cold as it used to be. We figured it just needed some Freon. We dropped it off and told them that they could have it all day. It was $89 to have it checked. We got a call from someone working there who muttered on the phone with broken English. He was certainly not someone you want working with the public and calling customers on the phone. Hard to understand and not polite. He told me it would be $800+ to fix the system as it had a leak. When I questioned him as to why it was so much, he stated they had to fix the leak, recharge the system and add Freon. I told him that I would pick up the vehicle and he was surprised and told me "you want to pick it up". I told him several times, "yes" I want to pick it up. He did not expect that, maybe other people just go along with the fix without a second opinion. We picked up the vehicle and took it to our mechanic after I found out his company works on A/C units too. They checked it out and there was no leak and it had plenty of Freon. The reason it was not working as well as it should was because mice got into the blower motor and built a nest. He gave us an option to clear it out or replace. We decided to replace it and it still cost us less that half of the American Auto's bid. It is working fantastic and I am so glad we got that second opinion. If you are thinking about taking your car here, check with your mechanic first because some work on this issue. We don't like being charged for something that does not need repairs.

This place used be good. 3 years ago they replaced my water pump. A year later I brought it in for a different repair. After the repair was done I went to pick up my truck. They said I would need a water pump again just after 1 year. Well it's been over 2 years now and about 60,000 miles plus pump still good. My granddaughter had a leak in her radiator. They told her she needs a water pump also and they would not replace the radiator with out replacing the water pump. Went to a different shop and they said the water pump was fine.Service: Auto water leak repair

I had a power steering fluid leak and I decided to replace the pump. They replaced the pump knowing there was a leak in the system. Still leaking the exact same amount of fluid. I would have expected a good repair shop to evaluate the leak before replacing parts and advising total repairs. Also it’s kinda fishy that my windshield wiper fluid hoses were backwards after the pump swap.
