Long story short:
Ted Wiens charged me almost $1K for misdiagnosing my engine and to replace spark plug wires. They wanted $15K to replace the engine, but the issue was an ignition coil on the misfing cylendar. Get a second opinion before just taking Ted Wiens' word for major work. I recommend US Mechanic, because three other shops I tried didn't help much.
Long story longer:
Am I a bit harsh with one star? Yes, but I want people to read this, because it's important and it is detrimental. Are they nice, polite, cordial, communicate well? Yes, yes, yes and kind of, but does that make the offense less offensive? No.
I took my GMC truck in to diagnose running rough. They checked compression, spark plugs and wires. They concluded it is a misfire and I needed to replace the engine, and quoted $15K. Apparently, their procedures have changed since the pandemic and they don't work with any machine shops to rebuild engines. (As an aside, it isn't just Ted Wiens, it's many shops, no one trusts or recommends anyone else anymore, it's like pulling teeth to get stuff done around here).
I decided if I needed a new engine, I mind as well get someone to rebuild and put some upgrades in it. I found a shop (Bajas Performance) willing to rebuild for about $3K and I just needed to supply any upgrades otherwise it would just be OEM again. I decided to try to find a mechanic close to Bajas, because they don't pull engines, which is typical, and I wanted everything to go as smooth as possible. I found US Mechanic, who said they would pull and reinstall the rebuilt engine for $2K. Lastly a tuner which is maybe another $1K. OK, we are looking at $6K, which beats Ted Wiens' $15K.
I go and pick up my truck from Ted Wiens to take to US Mechanic, and Ted Wiens' final bill is almost $1K for dianosing (compression and coolant tests) and replacing spark plug wires. A bit much... I show up at US Mechanic and they want to do their own diagnosis because they've heard stories from other customers about Ted Wiens and US Mechanic doesni't trust Ted Wiens' diagnosis.
Turns out it was an ignition coil. US Mechanic had a spare ignition coil and swapped it out and the truck was running smooth again. They also did a compression test, and it turns out my engine was right were it needed to be. Ted Wiens botched the compression test and returned a false negative. US Mechanic's final bill was just over $1K and actually fixed the issue.
Would it be nice to be reimbursed the cost of the misdiagnosis? Absolutely. Will I change my rating if they do? Yes, because we all make mistakes; it is how we rectify our mistakes that speaks to our character and integrity, and we need to reward integrity to promote it.

If I could give a 0 I would. First of all I had my car towed in to have an alternator replaced. I was then called and told my car had no brakes. I had just had my brakes replaced about 3 days before bringing the car in. I spoke with Mario about my brakes and the write up they had given me was $899, however speaking with Mario, it was $102 to bleed the brakes and input brake fluids. However, Mario when told by me and the person that had repaired the brakes comfronted him, he became rude and disrespectful. I will never return to Ted Wien Auto. I have never been so disrespected by anyone that is supposed to be running a business. I am a repeat customer and if this is how Ted Wien treat their customers, they have lost me. I don't mind paying a fair price for any service. I had just rendered $1300 for an alternator and labor, yet, this guy refused to put brake fluid in my car without charging me extra. Women get ripped off all the time when getting their vehicles repaired and I, for one will not be disrepected and ripped off because Mario and Ted Wien decided it is okay to lie and deceive their customers.

Brought my car on to get it checked out for an upcoming road trip (tire rotation, spare checked, fuel injection service). The lady who checked me in was friendly, efficient and kept me informed. I opted to wait for my car, had made an appointment and am happy with the timeliness. I highly recommend this location!!

Love this place. Everyone is so kind and courteous. I personally have never encountered a bad experience. They listen to you and the issue and not making you feel rushed out the door. The greatest thing is they will do a diagnostic, tell you the work that needs to be done and discuss an approximate cost. The greatest thing is they do not make you feel pressured and give you time to get a 2nd opinion. When you go, say "Hello" to Cabrina who works the front desk.
If you've had a bad experience here, I'm sorry.

They have switched people in the store and now they nickel and dime you with extra fees on an oil change. They offer 50 on their credit card but then add on charges like resetting the TPMS for 25 bucks and they don’t tell you they just do it and put it in your bill. This is my 2nd oil change since the crew has changed and I’m not impressed at all

Went in for a light on my TPMs & was fixed & out the door in about an hour. The young lady working the front desk was a delight & was so cheerful for being early in my morning. Have gone before & will continue to do so

The service was great! I went in for an oil change and I knew brakes were needed and they confirmed it. The wait time was kinda long but understandable since the extra work was needed .

Very good service and friendly staff who explain everything they are doing and why the car needs it. No price gouging either! I've recommended this store (North Decatur) to several friends.

Service Mgr does a thorough job, always seems to know what stage the service work is at, also makes arrangements for a driver to take me home if the repairs will take too long for me to wait for the car.
