Nice lady in the store who showed me some vintage guns. Advised me not to consider two of them since they would be hard to find parts for in case they broke down. Always worth going in to see what's in the vault. I'll be back

Is there a zero star option? I usually always check reviews and this time I was just exploring downtown Las Vegas and I thought this place might be the one from the TV show but as soon as I opened the door the stitch of death permeated my nose and my stomach turned. No one greeted me and the place looked like something out of The Bates Motel- dilapidated. Finally a head emerged and I said - Hello and she did not. I said "Is this the place from the TV show?" And she said no, leave us alone Madam! The woman behind the counter sadly looked like a half dead corpse. Someone needs to buy this place and turn it into a real pawn shop. I had money to spend and I went to the other pawn shop around the corner and had a much more pleasant experience.

Well it seems I had a total different experience here than all the other reviewers except for the one on the "not recommended list". I came here out of curiosity, not that I was looking for any particular item and I certainly didn't need a loan, I was staying across the street at the Grand Hotel and after grabbing lunch at a nearby restaurant we decided to walk it off and this place happened to be in the path. I for one love old business especially the ones like this one that doesn't put on any airs. We walked in a little passed noon the store was completely void of any customers and the mother and son team mentioned in other reviews were tending the store I assume - we were greeted by the gentleman and it was obvious he knew we were window shopping but he was cordial and greeted us and offered to provide any assistance that we needed. The old woman didn't speak as she scurried around behind the counter and then all of a sudden "poof" she totally disappeared. We continued to look in the cases and along the walls, there's really not much inventory on display here but it is a landmark I'd say and somewhat nostalgic. I did try and get some conversation going but it was obvious we interrupted their day and since we weren't paying customers they didn't hold the mortgage to my house, it felt a little cold - I asked if this business had been in the family for a long time and got a reply of "something like that" so the ice was broken and message delivered. The signage says pawn shop but unless they have a remote warehouse somewhere else I'd say these are primarily lenders, not that a little collateral won't get you a better term but there's not a lot to purchase here so it seems the pawn business is secondary. All in all I don't care about personality conflicts or if they hurt my feelings because I'm not one that usually let others affect my happiness - I did enjoy reading Yale Brock's comments to one reviewer and I believe there definitely two sides to every story and his ability to clearly make his point without appearing to be reactive was pretty cool in my opinion so I'm sticking up for the small business owner on this one and giving this place fours stars for being old school...
