Lived there 33 yrs, but hadn't seen it, till my life had great changes, unexpected, happen.was in early 2000's, so that good, can only have more now. There was something about this twin I felt was movie worthy. Something unlike any other film or place I had seen before. The minerals museum was like entering a quiet sanctuary. There was only one person at the front desk. A most familiar face. She greeted me as she introduced herself as Mary. Indeed there was something about Mary. Then I realized that perhaps that this place called Hawthorns beginning was about a person.Mary proceeded with a general tour of the newly redecorated museum. There was the gigantic eagle replica. Next to a steel bar door with a hanging key. Symbolizing the small space that separates true freedom from a life of prison. Mary also mentioned the latest addition of dinosaur artifacts. A nearby area that happened to coincide with the last sighting of mobster baby face Nelson.

Visit artifacts that reflect how life was. Very different from the electronic, disconnected relationships of today. Small museum, but check it out. Leave a donation

Had a very informative visit with helpful staff. Love small town museums as they show the local history. Interesting that Cecil (a mystery of the museum), the local lake monster, is used in parades and festivals, along with being supported by school children eventhough Walker Lake didn't look deep enough to support such a monster, but that's the beauty of youth. Believe!

Nice museum but way too much stuff in a single place. It takes a while to take it all in.

A good museum, nothing too profound mostly just antiques. One painting was interesting and a bit of local history in an otherwise rural county. Staff was friendly.

There's so much in this local museum, we ended up spending over an hour here. Some notable exhibits: Local lore--Cecil the Sea Serpent rumored to live out in nearby Walker Lake. A mastodon (prehistoric elephant) jaw fossil. A fire truck, old cameras, local bowling league trophies and league shirts (fun!), and an extensive taxidermy diorama of local wildlife. Kelly was very welcoming. Nice selection of books and small items of interest in the gift area at the front. Stop in to stretch your legs in this free (donations welcome) museum.
