Terrible experience. I reserved a car for April 20, when I got to rental location, I was told that my car was not ready. I waited 2 hours to have my car. I returned the car as indicated with a full tank; however, I was charged $143.10 for gas. I returned to the location to review charges and the person at the desk didn’t not want to help me. She was extremely rude. I filled out an online request but I haven’t received any response from dollar.

Reserved a car online, came to pick it up and we were informed they were sold out. What’s the point of the reservation system?!

You make a reservation, however we’re sold out. What’s the point of a reservation?!

Booked my car rental and set a reservation for 4pm. I came to the counter and they were closed. Now I'm stranded at the Treasure Island with no car. If they close at 4pm they shouldn't be making reservations for that time. That makes no sense!

Another case of xenophobia and racism disguised as incompetence. We had our reservation, he checked it and confirmed everything was fine. He was asking us the usual questions but when he saw my driving license he changed his mind and said that he did not have the car we reserved, however, we wanted any car but he insisted that he did not have it. None, we were waiting to make a reservation at another rental place and while we did so we rented two cars, why should they and not me? For my license, for my language or my country? I am very angry that this happened, I felt discriminated against. Bad service, I don't recommend it and just look at the opinions to see how bad it is.

They are discriminators, having a reservation they did not want to give us the car, claiming that they did not have any more, after us more people arrived and they did give them their car even though they did not have a reservation

Worst car rental experience ever. I’ll give it one star because thankfully there were cars available at the time of my pickup, but the customer service overall was terrible. The only person working at the front desk was extremely rude not only to me, but also to other customers in line and even their coworker. The staff was very condescending and would respond rudely to even the smallest questions. The experience was so terrible that I decided to make a new rental with a different agency the next day instead of extending my reservation. My rental with the other agency was so easy and pleasant that I will never use any Dollar location again.

We reserved a car on Tuesday and we picked it up on Saturday for our early morning road trip on Sunday. It was a better car than I was expecting, so that’s why I give this place 2 stars. Luckily, we were first in line after they opened back up at 2PM because we were the ONLY ones to get a car - the people behind us (at least 2-3 parties) who had reserved a car didn’t get one because they were all “out of cars.” Apparently, the Dollar website continues to let customers reserve cars even if inventory is limited, so be wary of that.On Saturday, we were told that our car had a full tank of gas, but as we were driving on Sunday, we noticed that the gas tank was half full. At this point, we couldn’t turn around and we’ve only driven 14 miles, so we took a picture of the odometer and tried to explain the situation to the front desk the next day. The man at the desk was very abrupt and at first tried to send us off to the Dollar desk at the airport, as that’s where we were supposed to drop the car off. We explained our situation, and his first response was, “Well, you picked the car up on Saturday… now it’s Monday…” - basically insinuating that we had driven the car right after pick up and up until that point, when really, that wasn’t the case at all. My partner questioned how driving 14 miles equates to using up a half tank of gas, and it was a lot of back and forth until he pulled up our reservation on his computer. Ultimately, he said that there was nothing he could do, as:1. We didn’t take pictures of the gas amount on the odometer, only the mileage2. We didn’t report the gas discrepancy before driving the car3. We filled up the tank to full during our road trip and at drop-off - he said we could’ve just dropped the car off with a half tank2. We booked the reservation through a third-party website (Expedia)We accepted the verdict, but what rubbed us the wrong way was how condescending and somewhat rude he was. We tried to ask for a reimbursement, a fee waive for airport drop-off, ANYTHING, but he offered no solutions. He even pressured my partner into coming behind the desk to look at his computer to see that he really can’t refund/reimburse us anything, even though we’ve already come to terms with the verdict. He concluded our conversation with, “Nothing is free here, welcome to Vegas.” What a lovely welcoming indeed ?TLDR: it’s probably best to book a car rental elsewhere!

They are shameless! When we picked up the car in San Francisco to take a route along the West Coast, they offered us all kinds of extras and insurance extensions that we did NOT accept. After telling the salesperson that we don't want anything, he told us to sign for the vehicle pick-up on the typical signature screen where you don't see what you are signing. So far so good, the problem has come when, before delivering the vehicle to the agency in Las Vegas, we went to the gas station to fill the gas tank and deliver it completely full (I attach a photo of it, with the vehicle already parked in your parking lot). The surprise was that they charged us $75 to fill a tank that was already completely full, claiming that we had signed a certain FPO (which at no time did they inform us that we were signing that and the meaning of those acronyms). You have to have very bad faith and be scammers to charge for something that has already been paid for. We rent many cars throughout the year and this was the first company we have had a problem with. First and last time, we do not recommend it.

Ran out of cars and was an awful 14-hour experience. I have only had issues with Dollar/Thrifty. This is the last time I will deal with them. They have lost a customer for life and built a solid detractor. Zero stars.

Unsafe and appalling customer service. We booked a Ford Mustang weeks ago and when we arrived to collect the vehicle we were informed, very abruptly and unapologetically, that we would instead be getting a Mini Cooper as they didn't have any Mustangs available. We stated that we specifically booked a Mustang and we weren't getting what we were paying for, to no avail and with no offer of compensation. We took the Mini as we had no other choice at that point. It was a nice car in all fairness and in good condition, just not what we asked and paid for. Unfortunately on our way back from our day out, we hit a particularly nasty pothole on the interstate which severely damaged one of the tyres, making the car undriveable. We tried to ring the Dollar helpline using a lady's phone who had also hit the same pothole and had to pull over. They were extremely unhelpful and basically left us stranded in the dark in the middle of the desert because they couldn't locate us. We had no choice but to call 911 for the police to come and help us. The police had no problem locating us with the information we provided. The police arrived and arranged a local tow company to tow us back and we contacted Dollar again to ask where they wanted us to drop the car. We were advised very clearly and explicitly that we would be refunded the entire cost of the tow the following day, which came to a total of $490. We followed their instructions and the same unhelpful, rude and unsympathetic man on the front desk kept interrupting us and refused to help us with our reimbursement, despite us clearly being told this on a recorded line. This company is shambolic, leaves their customers stranded in a dangerous situation and fraudulent. Do not use them! We were advised by another person on their helpline to fill out a form on their website to claim the money back in full, so we will be pursuing this. We will update this review with the outcome. Dollar/Hertz if you do read your reviews, I would appreciate your response to this as you have seriously failed us and the man you have on your Treasure Island front desk has no business working in customer service. Absolutely disgusted.

There's a reason they have a 2 star rating. They overbooked cars regularly and then deny people with paid-in-full reservations based on b.s., because they cannot fulfill the orders.

A mixed review. We were to collect our car 9am at TI for 2 days. It was booked 8 days in advance through CarFlexi. I did have Collision Damage and LIS included in the booking. When we arrived we were told that our reserved car was not available for 1 to 2 hours but that there was an SUV upgrade available immediately for an extra $20/day. So we took it instead of waiting. Time is a valuable commodity on a brief holiday! I've rented in UK/Spain/others and never have I been charged extra for an upgrade due to unavailability/error on the providers side. Disappointed with this. Also on collection we were told about the charging of tolls and whether we wanted to pay ourselves later online or pay Dollar a daily charge of $11.99/day. As the process online seemed cumbersome and we didn't want Dollar charging our credit card, we went for it. The fact it was mentioned I thought made it an issue. NOW THIS IS THE RUB! I've just researched that NV and AZ have no tolls!!! CA does but we weren't going there. This should have been told to us and we'd have avoided an extra charge. If this was deliberate, it's very deceitful. If not, then it's very slack on the attendants part. The booking was done in my name but Dollar do not accept virtual credit cards. So the booking was changed to my wife and her physical credit card. She wasn't going to drive and an extra driver charge for me was applicable as I wasn't the named renter. However, on the positive side the attendant waived the extra driver charge of $25. This balanced out the tolls charge. Maybe his conscience kicked in!!The car itself was good. Clean and drove well. All positive wrt the car.Overall, the experience was fine. I'd rent here again if all went as smooth but without the upgrade/toll charge fees being levied.Make sure the main named renter has a physical credit card!!
