UPDATE: you can see the original review below. note that it took them 6 MONTHS TO REPLY TO MY REVIEW and offer to talk to me about it to "make things right." does this sound like somebody you would want to do your taxes?
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I had them file an amended return for me after I screwed up on my own. I think they did ok with it, I know they got it in the day before the deadline (which I am pretty sure wouldn't have happened had I not sent them several reminders.) I asked Brian if it would be ok if I emailed him periodically throughout the year with tax questions, even told him I would be happy to pay a consultation fee for this, he said that would be fine. I have since emailed him twice and haven't got any response. I thought I was hiring an accountant, but I realize now he wasn't willing(?) able(?) to do any more for me than I could have done myself with turbo tax. I am pretty sure his advice to me on how to set up a payment plan is going to get me into more trouble and am now looking to hire somebody else to advise me how to proceed.

I started when Verdant was Goracke & Associates --when Brian's father was sharing office space with an attorney (long before the La Vista space).
Brian has been my accountant through several adventures, and will always be my "go-to" for accounting advice. He has helped us, and several other people in my family save dollars with taxes, and accumulate wealth.
Brian is not only my accountant, but a friend (& I cannot leave out several key team members--too many to list).
Their unique ability to build strong relationships and provide top-shelf, quality accounting advice are just a couple of the things that set this firm apart---miles apart--from those who might want to consider themselves "competitors" of Brian's strong team at Verdant.
I would highly recommend them to all who are seeking professional advice, to save on taxes, and to accumulate wealth.
Thank you, Brian, and team Verdant!

Trash customer service. Called multiple times to ask questions and deal with my account. Would get hung up or just transferred around.

Very dissatisfied! Had been working with them for 4-5 years until we got audited for an error they should've caught. then they mishandled our appeal so we had to pay penalties and interest. now verdant wants us to pay them, too, even though we paid for audit protection.

Figured I would finally leave a review since Verdant has been nothing but a headache. I normally use Turbotax and file by myself but this year I had some things I wanted done by a professional (capital gains exemptions). I made this very clear when I visited. Once the return was sent to me for review, I noticed that he did not include the capital gains exemption because he did not believe I qualified for it. For context, this means that I was going to have to pay over $17k, yes, 17 thousand dollars. So I google capital gains exemptions. First IRS link, I click. Look at that, "if you move for work farther than 50 miles, you are exempt," which is exactly what I did and the "tax professional" was very aware of. So I had to ask him, again. Can you please file the exemption. His response was something along the lines of, Yep, we can try. Well we tried, and what do you know, instead of paying $17,000, I received around 4k. 21k swing..... unbelievable. I basically did the taxes myself. I complained about this months ago, they were surprisingly reluctant to offer me any discount or compensation for the $450 I spent for them to almost cost me 21k. Fast forward 6 months. I continue to get bills from these people. I have now had multiple e-mail conversations and phone calls to address this over the last 6 months. I paid a one time filing fee, yet they have me signed up for a monthly subscription? Not sure what for? That's why I'm complaining now because my god...does anyone know what they are doing? Do I really need to wonder if you clowns are going to send something to collections that I never signed up for? Regret ever coming here. Nothing but time wasted, money wasted, headaches, and stress.

I highly recommend this company!! I have worked with Verdant for 29 years now and am extremely pleased with their deep attentiveness, quick responsiveness and tremendous care they have handled all of our business needs with. A special thank you to Penny Booth, who has been a great help with all things tax and in helping us with our PPP loan information, you were always quick and helpful with your responses. Thank you to Kasey Wooden for being so good with our payroll and helpful with all questions. I have a very special thank you to Brian Goracke, Verdant's president, who has been an amazing help and great successor of his wonderful father, Ron Goracke. I really can't say enough about how special Brian has been as a consultant over the years. I am extremely grateful for him!!

They did not prepare my taxes correctly. Used them for 2 years had a good experience. On the 3rd year they did not register my wife's income even though I provided them with all tax records including her 1099. How do you miss that? I now owe $5800 dollars from a previous year. I cannot afford to pay this years tax along with last years mistake. Couldn't of happened at a worse time along with the virus and escalating medical bills. I called one of the owners and asked for any type of help they may be able provide due to this mistake on their part. They will pay penalties and interest and that's it. Guess they are saving money for one of their yearly parties. Needless to say their owner proved to me what kind of company they are.

We are a small bar/restaurant outside of Omaha that uses Verdant and NO ONE has contacted us for PPE Program relief help or anything else during this COVID19 Pandemic. It's very frustrating when we have other small businesses in our exact same scenario who's CPA reaches out to them and walks them through the steps on what's necessary to obtain funding. We haven't heard a word from Verdant. Also being going through a personal audit and the staff turnover has been alarming in trying to coordinate communication with the IRS. I would highly recommend finding another CPA firm to handle any small business accounting needs.

It seems as though Verdant has completely removed the human touch that was so pleasant and useful on the previous website. And 99.9 percent of the useful information about what you actually can do for a customer. It is rather like your actual business place in this time of plague, you can see a receptionist who doesn't know the answer to any of your questions, but no one else is there with information or a helping hand.

Stephen Lambert with Verdant is seriously the best accountant I’ve ever had! If you fall within the group of people that tax time brings anxiety and worry, Stephen is your guy!
