I brought my dog in for obedience training, we both learned a handful of things. I was hoping for some socialization skills but none whatsoever in this program. They wouldn't let the dogs near each other. I think a half sheet of paper with training for each week was difficult to understand and needed more clarification. It would help if there was more information on the specific training each week that we could see online.

Had a great experience with my puppy in obedience 1

Personally did not have a good experience. I took a class with Kim. I took my puppy to obedience 1 and when he didn’t respond well to commands, the trainer automatically assumed I was doing something wrong treat wise (not providing variety, not high enough value). Little did she know, he is a picky eater and I have tried more treats than I can count on one hand but instead of asking, she just assumed and made me feel uncomfortable in front of the whole class. My pup was overwhelmed in a group class and I struggled to keep his attention on me. I previously researched dog training and agreed with the practice being taught. Just did not feel welcomed and did not get much help when I was having difficulties. I think I will try private classes and behavior training before attempting another group class.

Trainer said I looked "sloppy" for some reason. Did not feel that I was welcome, and very little patience when my dog didn't respond to commands right away.

I took obedience I at GLOC and really enjoyed the trainer and the course; my dog and I had fun and the trainer was very positive and encouraging. However, last night, I attended my first obedience II class. The trainer told me in front of the class that my appearance was "sloppy" (not sure why she felt the need to comment on my appearance - I was wearing a t-shirt, leggings, and sandals) and it was very clear that she did not think my dog was good enough to be in her class. I didn't learn any vocabulary in the obedience I course, and when she kept using technical terms, I didn't understand her, which earned me disapproving looks. She referenced that our dogs would be ready for competition at the end of the course, but in the course description, the intent of the class was to play bonding games and further the skills learned in obedience I , not to prepare for competition. Had I known this, I would not have signed up for this course. I am not going back and they are not issuing me a refund, despite the attitude I received from the trainer.

Honestly, it was the most helpful weeks at teaching my dog obedience. The instructors really help you and it really helped strengthen my bond with my mini schnauzer. The way the class is broken up I would say it is more for humans then dogs in that they help teach you how to train your dog but it is up to you to work with your dog during and after classes to make it stick. If you want a quick fix without any work for your dogs behavior then this is not for you. However, if you want to grow with your dog and learn tools to help with training then you couldn't find better help.
