November 2023 by Rick B.
I was happy working out at VRTX fitness when I lived two blocks away. Then I moved near Blue Mountain and I'm a 2 minute drive to PEAK Wellness. It's basically on my street. I was really happy with Jack, my trainer, I considered him a friend. I sent him this text. This is word for word. Please excuse the typo. I was on a plane. "I'm sorry to say that these 29 and 30 will be our last sessions. I love training with you, it's been really great and I appreciate your expertise. I know myself and I don't want to have any excuses like being too tired to drive into down. I'm going to join Peak, which is literally a 2 minute drive from my front door or 15 minute walk. I had no idea what it was. I thought it was some hippie wellness center. I appreciate all you've done to get my started on the right track. I've been avoiding telling you because I've enjoyed our sessions and meeting you. It's really been helpful with my pain. But I need to take this more seriously and in order to do that I need to step up my cardio more and I don't see myself driving into down when I'm tired, and especially during the winter. I'll see you Thursday and Friday at 9am. I have one credit after Friday, could you refund that for me?" He then replied and said there were not refunds and that he was cancelling my sessions tomorrow and Friday. Here's his reply: "Hey Rick, I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, there is a no refund policy for the training credits. Our trainers (myself included) really on those credits and hours to make a living. I wish you had told me this sooner (I just made the decision over the weekend) as I have been holding 3 hours long time slots a week for you. I enjoyed getting to know and was quite looking forward to working with you long term. I'm going to go ahead and cancel those remaining sessions we have so I can start with a new client. I hope the Peak works for you and you're able to achieve your goals. Hang in there and stick with process, good things will happen." Though this is a very nice email, his reaction to cancel our appointments that were scheduled and paid for was childish and not professional. It's stealing. So I called and spoke with the GM and told her the whole story and she profusely apologized and said she was going to talk to the owner Renee and get back to me. It was after 5pm and I had not heard back from her, so I called the front desk. They put Renee on the phone and I started to tell her the story and how I had called and that the GM said she was going to talk to her. And she said "yes." and there was a long long pause. I was shocked. She said, "I don't know what you want from me." I tried to continue the story and there were continued pauses of dead air from her and then she would interrupt and said I saw the text messages and read them all. Again, awkward pause. She said they would refund the sessions but said it was not standard to do so. I said he had no right to cancel my appointments and say I was not getting a refund. Again, she was dismissive and unforfestional. They basically said they were stealing and then backtracked because I said I would go to American Express and have them issue a charge back for fraud. I was so upset and her attitude and dismissive words and tone. That I asked again, so you're going to issue refunds for all three credits and she said yes. And went on this long tangent about important the health of Missoula is to her business. If it was that important, they wouldn't treat clients like they treated me. As they say it comes from the top and now I know why Jack felt it was appropriate to steal from me. I said you sound like a real (expletive) and hung up. I was infuriated not only that they were trying to steal from me but the dismissive attitude like it was nothing. Check out Peak Wellness Blue Mountain. It has aquatics, classes, training, massage therapy, pilates and CoreAlign, life coaching, nutrition coaching and PICKLEBALL. It h

One of the best gyms I’ve been to. The owner and staff are good vibes.

I tried vrtx today and I was a little let down. I have a membership somewhere else but they closed early for labor day, so I opted to pay the day fee at VRTX. I walked around for 45 minutes trying to lift weights and virtually all the equipment was taken. I finally left. The staff is very friendly but it's a bad design for a gym. Theres not enough room to accommodate people, and for a building that size its just bad designing. It's stuffy and cramped and I wouldn't recommend it.

From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and friendly, making us feel right at home. The gym itself was clean, well-maintained, and had a great atmosphere for a productive workout session. The best part for me was definitely the sauna. Top notch experience overall

I've been working out here since The Source opened. I stayed after the sale and rebranding. This place is a really good family-oriented facility. Positive body image inclusive kinda place. I like that. If you are serious about body building, the weight room might not serve all your needs. However, most fitness lovers will find enough to get a decent workout.

Really good gym and I have used most in town. Good facilities and vibe. Great clientele that don't hog machines and take the plates off and put them away! I joined because it seemed good and DOESNT play loud music so I can work out without or with music I like. Most of the time that is the case. Today was the only day where they played really loud music and stuff I hate so I cut my workout short. Hopefully that wont be common. Nice folks working there too.

VRTX is one of the top gyms in Missoula, if not the top gym. It has everything that is needed for beginners or pros. It has a bright and open layout, is inviting and clean with great staff. You can get an excellent cardio workout, and there’s plenty of free weights and machines. Owners are local and seem to invest in the community with fun events like the Zootown Challenge obstacle course.

I love the how VRTX has something for all levels. It’s not a bro-gym, but they have great lifting weights. New treadmills, the gym is clean and staff is amazing. Don’t compromise on atmosphere.

Friendly staff, free parking, adequate equipment and spacious workout areas. A little higher end as far as pricing goes for a monthly membership. But I guess you get what you pay for.

This is probably the worst gym I have ever been to. Equipment is not great minus the new treadmills, layout is weird, and the staff acted like it was a huge inconvenience that I came in inquiring about a membership, and the kid who helped me contininued his conversation with his coworker in between answering my questions.I also couldn’t believe that they do not offer a free day pass or free trial like every other gym in town. Definitely won’t be back.

Gym is great. Writing this review because they have been opening late on Sunday for the past month. It’s scheduled to open at 8 AM, yet here I am sitting in the parking lot at 8:30 again.
