My family and I have lived here since 2007. Naturally we’ve all had positive and negative experiences at this clinic. Unfortunately for me personally (especially in the last 3 1/2 years) the negative has far outweighed the positive, but I felt like I needed to update my review from 2019 after my most recent visit. I wanted to recognize and give credit to a nurse named Amber in Family Medicine. I recently had surgery in Utah and came in during walk-in hours with some issues. I had been trying for a few days to go through my surgeon’s office but they weren’t receiving the lab work results from Malmstrom’s lab. I was clearly sick and needing treatment. She went out of her way to help me, got with my new PCM, ordered new lab work, prescriptions, faxed my labs to Utah (which they finally received) and called me the next day to check on me. I can’t say how much it’s appreciated. I’ve had a lot of health issues beginning June 2019 and unfortunately I ended up with diagnoses that are rare (Nutcracker Syndrome, Loin Pain Hematuria Syndrome, Pelvic Congestion Syndrome) and I’ve had three surgeries in Utah over the past two years. When my symptoms began in 2019, I was assigned to the PRAP clinic. One of the worst experiences is an appointment I had after an ER visit and two urgent care visits within 3 weeks. I was clearly in distress, I couldn’t walk or stand up straight. Capt Moore told me I was dehydrated. Obviously I don’t expect a military doctor to know any of the above conditions (of the roughly 17 doctors I saw downtown, TWO had heard of Nutcracker Syndrome), but to tell me I was dehydrated…I honestly don’t have words.

The nurses are extremely helpful and understanding! They have a great amount of knowledge. They are booked out a great amount, but the clinic isn’t super big so it’s understandable.

Impossible to get a hold of someone for something you need, staff is unfriendly and unhelpful.

We just moved our scripts to the Malmstrom pharmacy, due to retirement age etc. They are slow - so are many other places. I've much longer waits at Walgreens! They are friendly ,helpful and polite. I have health several issues, so just my copay's were an enormous cost for us. I wanted to take a minute to say how thankful I am for the pharmacy and the wonderful staff.

The pharmacy takes incredibly long to fill orders and referrals forces you to do things on your own online, which is not always as convenient as it was intended to be. Often times, paperwork also doesnt freely float between offcare providers and on base PCMs like it should. Civilian care is generally better. It's also not uncommon to leave a message with a shop and not get a return call for a long time. Flight med is notorious for not answering the phone or returning calls. I'm better off just calling every hour until someone answers.

Not open because of training on the one day I have available to pick up a prescription refill.

Always closed when you need them. Some of the very few people who work bank hours on this base, and yet you can’t rely on them to be there during those hours. They should train on their down time like the thousands of shift workers on this base.

Pediatrics and other medical offices in the clinic do not read patient records. They do not make any attempts to learn their patients medical history. They are always over booked and schedule appointments months out but will blame you when you get fed up with being unable to be seen for months. They will blame you for not making it to an appointment that was scheduled months away as if people don't forget, or have other things come up. Some of the quote on quote medical physcians do not know about many common medical issues and will look up problems on Google in your presence to find answers. No one wants to receive a 1 minute Google search diagnosis. It takes a nice amount of time to conduct research because credible sources are needed in order to support the diagnosis. Any doctor that will search Google in front of me shouldn't be practicing nor working in the medical field until they are familiarize themselves with common illness and injuries. They have no true commitment and loyalty to military service members and their families. I honestly feel like patients seen on base are treated like guinea pigs, like research participants. My family have had to deal with misdiagnosis. If your child isn't prime they won't see your child but will cause an uproar without checking patient records for verification of their insurance status and accuse you of child neglect. It's not neglect if I call you to make a well child appointment and you tell me no because of our insurance type. They will go even further with being incompetent and call CPS claiming child neglect because you aren't bringing your child in for appointments that they wouldn't set because they only accept tricare prime. Even after speaking with me and this person checks it out herself and sees my child not being able to be seen on base, they still created a child neglect case for these appointments. From Pediatrics to family advocacy, these people try and psychoanalyze patients after only seeing them for a minute or too and after seeing for the first time for a short time. Also, reconsider your parenting style because these people live by a one size fits all when it comes to how parents are parenting their children. If you are an authoritative parent like my husband and it'll also be confused with neglect. Imagine that. Oh yeah, don't teach your children about stranger danger and please allow them to act like wild animals in public because if your children don't talk to them (strangers), and if they don't play with office toys, they'll claim that your child must be abused at home. Shyness will make them think your child has a learning disability. Its against the law and base rules for parents to teach their children good manors and and how to behave properly in public. It's wrong to have well mannered and well behaved children. I have no faith in the base medical practices and no faith in Malmstrom at all. We feel hurt, disrespected, violated, and not supported by Malmstrom. My husband has dedicated his life to the military for years and their way of saying thank you or we appreciate you is by attacking his character and attacking our parenting styles. attacked. We never had these issues until now. After 5 years of being in Montana and stationed at Malmstrom Afb.

My husband has been assigned to Malmstrom for the past 7years, family practice here is a joke!!! It takes a month to be seen with an appointment, and if you have an emergent issue, they can't even put in your prescriptions as promised. If you have any medical needs, no matter how bad they are, it's best to just go to the ER. At least then you will receive some medical attention.

The care depends on the staff and dept. Major Marshall is an excellent OBGYN. The Ophthalmology dept is good as far as I know. The two dogs there caught a bleed in my optic nerve and a floater in my daughter's eye. Very thorough. Pediatrics is generally good. We've only had one issue with care there with a missed ear infection diagnoses a few years back that led to my son walking around sick and untreated while we were referred to a hearing specialist who took one look and said it was a raging ear infection. We had to go back where we saw his regular PCM who took one look and was very angry that the obvious infection was missed by the lady who subbed for him before. The other few pediatric docs were great. Family health is okay. It does appear as if they do not know much, but they are respectful and nice and will refer as you need it. The lab techs are generally great. One forgot to wipe my arm before drawing blood and another forgot to apply pressure after another time. These incidents led to incessant itching in the vein with the first and a nasty bruise with the second. Making an appt time and telling people to arrive 15 mins early is ridiculous. Make all appt times 15 mins early or make sure staff can get a grip if people are not 15 mins early. I was once turned away very rudely for only being 10 mins early.... Yet, if you arrive 15 mins early you generally wait for 30 minutes after taking less than 5 mins to fill out papers. Then, sometimes, you wait more when you get to a room. Not everyone wants to waste their time just sitting. I also know that soldiers feel restricted in the care they can ask for. Many are so afraid of a diagnoses hurting their job that they refuse to seek care on base when they need it. That's a bad formula. The pharmacy wait time is long, but the waiting area and staff are nice. The staff throughout the clinic are generally very nice and create a welcoming or professional atmosphere. That being said, I still give this clinic a good rating.

Malmstrom Pharmacy is the reason I use Smith's Pharmacy. Slow as molasses on a cold January day. No Doctor prescriptions filled and ready. Not their process. Take a number, wait, check-in, useless paperwork that does nothing, then wait again for it to be processed. Then having to miss work to get to do all of this done at a snail's pace only adds insult to injury. None of these people would survive in a customer oriented position. At least they were friendly if not glacially slow.
