After a long 28-hour road trip from Atlanta, my buddy and I went looking for food. Although every restaurant in Gardiner seems to close at 8pm, the Rusty Rail seemed as if it was our last but only option. Immediately upon walking in, I could tell this was a prime spot for more local residents to hang out in and mingle. As a newly 21-year old in college, who doesn’t prefer the EDM club atmospheres, this place has everything I was looking for: Coors banquet, elk chili (which was out of this world), rodeo and motocross on tv, and plenty of nice and talkative locals who love telling you about their humble town of Gardiner. We came back later in the week for more chili and a beer to end the day after 2 long hikes and getting stranded in the car for an hour in the morning. We met Mike, the bartender, who was more than kind enough to tell us about the bar and what brought him to Gardiner, as well as hear about our day, all throughout while we ate and while he maintained a busy crowd. At the end of the night before last call, we both spun the wheel (which has a 2nd smaller wheel inside of it) and both matched up two animals to get a free beer. Mike was more than happy to swap our beer chips out for two t-shirts which meant a lot to us. We will be back over the summer and will be recommending The Rusty Rail to everyone we know traveling to or through the town of Gardiner.

Honestly was really bummer about this whole experience. It was the only bar open- which was even worse. All three of these instances are with different employeesBartenders serve the bar and the tables in that area (terrible idea). First time we went we were trying to be understanding- our waitress/Bartender was slammed and apologetic for the slow service. No biggie. She comped one of our drinks and was very pleasant overall.Second time we went, our bar tender was snappy and treated us like a nuisance. Asked for a drink menu and she slapped it down on the table (I didn't see it) and said "it's right here" then walked off. She later came back and took our order and said "good" when we said we were only there for drinks and no food. Once we got our drinks, we never saw her again. Ended up just leaving a 20 on the table for our bill and leaving. The third and final time we went (had no choice as everywhere else was closed at that time) we sat at the bar since there were seats open. Figured it would cut out the fact that out bartender/waitress was running back and forth and maybe that was a factor for bad service. This one was more talkative with the locals at the bar so it seemed hopeful. But we got served once and ignored after our glasses were empty at the edge of the bar. We had to get her attention multiple times. The gentleman next to us (a local) said this was usual for them. She snapped at other non-local customers trying to get her attention- constantly yelled at the people sitting at the tables saying there was no table service (like they would know). I complimented the drink she made (one good thing from this experience) and she became snotty, raised her voice and was like "oooh..... cool...." the whole experience was uncomfortable and just miserable.Don't waste your time going unless you're a local. Because they will treat you like garbage.

My server, I believe her name was Kayla, was PHENOMENAL. She was very nice, made sure my order was correct, and she even put my dessert to go in the freezer until I was ready to leave.Good was great. The atmosphere was great as well.

It is the only bar in town, great place for drinks and it is open until midnight. There is a wheel you can spin and it has something to do with drink specials. They get slammed in the Summer so be nice to the staff they do their best.

I was alone on a motorcycle trip and stopped in to this local watering hole. The only table was huge and it was the only one left. I mentioned to the staff that if folks want to sit at the table i will make new friends. About five minutes later a couple sits down and after a few minutes i learned their son and i know each other in Washington. After about an hour or so went by another gentleman walked in with all of his biker gear(it was raining) and we invited him to sit with us. Turns out his woman left him, he got on his bike in Spain and has been traveling the world on his Dyna Glide. Russia, Ukraine, Peru, etc and was on his way to Alaska. Loved my experience at the spot. Thank Rusty Rail staff!
