JD and his crew at Wild Trout Outfitters in Big Sky Montana are world class. I was up against a tight deadline to book a half day and I called the shop and JD was able to make it happen. The shop was nice with Hopper, the shop pup, to greet us for some belly rubs. All the gear was provided (except fishing license) but JD showed us over the phone exactly how to get it before our trip. We went at the end of December so it was cold, but Wild Trout Outfitters provided all the gear we needed for our half day. All their gear is top quality stuff from Simms waders and boots to Orvis rods and reels. If they make it, Wild Trout has it. They even had some loner gloves, hand warmers and hot tea. Nick was our guide and he has enough fly fishing knowledge to fill a book! I’ve been with other guides that just take you out to the fish and that’s about it. Nick was much more than that. He covered the “why” behind the “how” of various techniques. He had some top secret rigs he learned guiding in Alaska that had us catching fish right away. My wife and I couldn’t have been happier with the day and the results.

Awesome local company! Did the Yellowstone tour with Matt as our tour guide and he was amazing! Super knowledgeable and hospitality. Highly recommend for any Yellowstone tours out of big sky!

I rented 2 boats for my family of four for a full day trip. The entire process was simple from start to finish. JD was great to get us set up and assigned us 2 incredible guides in Sammy and Tom. They were extremely knowledgeable and most importantly very patient as this was my daughters first time flyfishing out of a boat and the first time my wife held a flyrod. They were extremely well prepared, funny and most importantly very knowledgeable which allowed us all to catch lots of great fish. I would strongly recommend this outfitter and Sammy and Tom.

Stopped by there today to pick up a few flies. The gentleman was knowledgeable and hooked me up with a deadly combo and explained to fish a double nymph rig with split shot. Well…I had a great day catching fish on the river thanks to his advice! I will be coming back! Thank you again!

I recently went on a full-day float trip with Wild Trout Outfitters in Big Sky, Montana, on the Upper Madison River. Brenden was my guide – he's one awesome guy! He showed me all the essential points of fly fishing. He also has a great sense of humor (we were pretty much cracking up the whole day), and as a complete novice to fly-fishing, he had me catching fish in no time. The drive from the Outfitters to where we put the boat in the water was a little over an hour drive, but it flew by. I had great conversations with Brenden the whole way there and back, and that part of Montana is off-the-rails scenic. We drove past Hebegen Lake and Earthquake Lake, we saw a grizzly bear, and all sorts of rugged, beautiful views. Back on fishing - once I got the hang of it, which was pretty quick (thanks, Brenden!) I caught a bunch of fish, including a few brown trout and a beautiful rainbow trout. The weather was terrific, even with a few rain showers – the rain just added to the "you're 100% in nature now" experience. I'm not gonna lie; I had pretty high expectations and, as a non-fisherman, no small amount of anxiety. With that said, the whole trip blew me away! I know I'll be talking about fly fishing to anyone who'll listen for weeks! I highly recommend Wild Trout Outfitters and Brenden as your guide for anyone looking for an unforgettable fly-fishing experience.

I gifted my husband a half day of fly fishing for his birthday. He had an awesome time fishing on the Gallatin River. The instructor, Terran was great! Thanks for the great experience. Highly recommend Wild Trout Outfitters.
