What an amazing attraction. Either museum, car or prison, are fantastic.
The car museum goes on and on and on, cars I never thought I would actually physically see with my own eyes! So awesome.
The prison is a fantastic snap shot of a period in history. Opportunities to see the whole complex from the cells, the infamous 'hole', the yard and more.
I recommend this place 100%

Great place to stop and take a rest. Didn't take a tour (they weren't open yet) but the outside is picturesque and there is a jail cell that you can take photos inside of. Nearby are some old trains.

You could easily spend an entire day touring the old prison or looking at the classic vehicle collection. There's also a few smaller museums across the road, and two historic locomotives are displayed in the parking lot. An old prison and auto museum combination might sound strange on paper, but it's well worth the visit!

WOW!
The auto museum - there were SO many cars! All kinds and all years. Plus a little bit of history at them all. Outstanding.
Then the prison - incredible. So much history. We were able to walk in all of the areas. We were there a total of 3 hours and needed more, so plan ahead. There are some other associated museums across the street which we'll be going back to enjoy. We've seen the advertisement lots of times and are SO glad we got to stop. An absolute MUST SEE!!!!!!

This is a must see. So many cars and the self guided digital audio tour is great for the prison. Plan on spending at least 3 hours here.
Bonus keep your receipt and you can come back for another visit within a year for free.
Visit the antique shop across the road. It’s the home of the warden and a super cute shop.
The inmate hobby store across the street is also amazing.

The auto museum was absolutely amazing. Beautiful cars from early 1900s to current. There are many rare cars to see. 100's of beautiful restored cars. Highly recommend this auto museum. The prison museum was very interesting to see. On display is barbaric old dental and medical tools they used back in the day. Very crazy to see how they handled prisoners so many years ago. This is a very eerie place.

Historic place to visit in Deer Lodge, fascinating history of events to learn about while visiting. Easy self guided walk through and nice gift shop. We went in March, it was warming up outside but interior aspects are still quite chilly.

Wow. Would have hated to have been incarcerated here in the olden days. Solitary looked particularly brutal. Guess it beats being on the gallows that were on display. Wife found it depressing and couldn't wait to leave. I rather enjoyed the history and seeinf how things really were.

Love the auto museum and what Sherm has built. Most amazing classic car collection. Love walking through and seeing a dozen or so that I own as well. Cheers!

This museum was a fun stop. Prison tour was on your own but lots of good info along the way. Car museum had a lot of older cars--we are more muscle car fans--but all were in great shape and they included info about the time period they were built, with lots of photos, etc.Only suggestion is to get more "auto" related gifts in the gift shop! My husband was looking forward to buying a t-shirt or other items related to the auto museum. All you have is a few license plates. Believe me, the people who stop for a car museum want to buy car stuff. Lol.They have additional museums/shops in the area but we did not go through them.
