Papa's Market is a great place to find everything you need in the area from ready made food, drinks and toiletries. They even have Woods Bay Casino attached and plenty of parking in the back.

This place isn't what it used to be. It's been under new ownership since October 2022. The new owners had an opportunity to continue making this a welcoming place where locals were met by a friendly face and a warm greeting when they walked in the door. Sadly, they've scored a big F for FAIL. My husband and/or I have stopped in at least a dozen times since last October, and last week we decided "enough is enough." We mostly encounter the male owner, not his wife. He's not much of a talker, gruff to the point of blatant rudeness. A simple question like "where can I find xyz?" is met with a "what, are you stupid?" stare and a reply that expresses that same attitude. We thought maybe he just didn't like us for some bizarre reason. Is it because we've only lived here for 12 years and aren't "old timers" like his family? But we've seen him treat others, tourists and locals alike, just as rudely. It's almost like he's baiting them to call out his rudeness so he can then refuse them service. When we witnessed EXACTLY that last week, we decided we're DONE with Papa's Market, and we are telling all our family and friends who live here to do the same. Word of mouth is still the best form of advertising. When you treat one customer badly, you can multiply that by 10. In small towns like ours, multiply by 20. REAL Montanans are good neighbors, no matter how long their neighbor has lived in Montana. Now, if you don't care about rude business owners (let's face it, civility and common decency appears to have been thrown out the window in this country), here are a few other things to keep in mind before giving this establishment your hard-earned dollars.1) Prices at places like this (tourist traps) that get a lot of out-of-state travelers usually are much higher. That's an unfortunate given. We understand inflation is making things tough for everyone, but Papa's Market prices are INSANELY high. 6 bucks for a regular size box of Nabisco crackers? 5 bucks for box of cake mix? Back in December, I ran out of raisins for a dessert recipe and sent my husband over to Papa's (3 min. away) for a box. He ended up going to Harvest Foods because even with the extra mileage, it was still cheaper than what Papa's was selling: 6 halloween-treat-size boxes of raisins that had been wrapped in cellophane and slapped with price of $4.99. 2) Gas price gauging. Watch out! Read the Unleaded gas price sign very carefully. The price is for CASH ONLY. When you get to the pump, you'll find the price is at least 10 cents higher if you're paying by credit card. No matter which method of payment you use, gas prices at Papa's are ALWAYS at least 10-20 cents higher than the Harvest Foods gas station just 5 miles north.3) If you're looking at old reviews, please be aware that Papa's doesn't sell milkshakes anymore. There is a nice veggie/fruit stand set up outside every Wednesday (June-September) by the local Hutterite community. My one star in this review is for the Hutterite stand, though they'd get 5 all on their own.

A bit cluttered, this place gave me a bit of claustrophobic feel when I went in for a quick bathroom run and a fill up on snacks. The cashier was busy flirting with her boyfriend to help and finding the bathroom not clearly labeled was not easy. My husband and I both had to search as a team before we were able to locate it. Afterwards, I grabbed a couple soda drinks for the road and had to still wait for the server to finish her conversation with her boyfriend. Finally, she got the hint that there were actual customers waiting to be served. He left and we got out promptly. It would be important to note for the owner or manager that while this place is located easily off the main strip there are also plenty of other opportunities to fill up and get one's needs taken care of. They should impress on their employees to be a little more present to help those that actually stop in or they might lose a customer.

Very confusing diesel station. Better signage would be helpful.

Out of all the places I went to on my trip to Montana this summer, this place had the BEST customer service. I literally want to visit that area again based on the friendly people here.
