Our nonprofit transitioned to The Charity CFO over the last 6 months. We were very concerned that an "outside" agency just would not be able to understand all the particulars and quirks of the many funding streams we braid together. TCCFO has come through! Here's what we like:- Responsive to emails and quick to answer questions. There is A LOT of back and forth as you refine systems during onboarding. They never seem frustrated by the frequent communications as we get the initial set up perfect.- Cool new integrations. Our whole team is loving the switch to Divvy and Dext for managing receipts.- In building the "guide" during onboarding, you really clarify processes and budget rules. It's a good process for the agency.- Our books are closed and spend down reports to us quickly. this allows us us to get our monthly claims out to funders.- They handle the audit. This is a huge plus. You have someone with high level accounting experience talking to your auditor.- You have someone handling your books who DEEPLY understands nonprofit accounting. I love how reassuring this is. Other accountants know accounting but not the nonprofit quirks and grant management demands. TCCFO also has the benefit of being in a lot of nonprofits books so they see what works and integrate that into your system. It's honestly amazing to have immediate access to a high level accountant (our lead is a former nonprofit auditor) to advise on accounting and budgets.- I also like that, even though we will definitely not be leaving TCCFO, we can. The contract does not lock us into a long term. If we decided to go another direction, we could and we would have the benefit of having integrating better systems.- The price point is slightly painful, but not unfair. We switched to TCCFO because our amazing lead accounting director and a PT fiscal support were leaving. The expense of TCCFO is about equal to that payroll and benefits. The one star off is honestly only because the onboarding does take a long time. It took about 6 weeks from inquiry to start of process and then about 3 months to be ready to fully have TCCFO in charge. That did pull a lot of energy, but there's no real way around it. Also, you will have still manage payroll entirely in house so you will need staff to tackle those fiscal pieces and the monthly claims.

The Charity CFO is a pleasure to work with. They are now performing all of our finance functions for our nonprofit organization with a budget of about $5 million. The transition went very smoothly and we expect to actually save funds by outsourcing our finance department. The Charity CFO team is knowledgeable, professional and very responsive. We are looking forward to a long and productive relationship.

The folks at The Charity CFO have been amazing! As a mid-sized nonprofit our finances are complex and finding a finance director with expertise in nonprofit accounting has been challenging. Tim at The Charity CFO was wonderful to work with. He got up to speed on our rather complex mix of grants and program quickly and offered sound advice for ways to streamline our systems. His expertise is impressive and I really appreciated his ability to explain finances in straightforward, understandable language.

The Charity CFO took over bookkeeping after years of poor work by another firm. Within two short months the complicated problems we were left with were totally cleaned up, we had implemented new procedures that saved staff time, and we were productively working with our auditors to complete an overdue review of the previous year.TCCFO's monthly reports provide excellent insights into our organization's finances. They are well formatted, intelligently organized, and give me the information I need to keep the organization running.TCCFO staff are professional, kind, and good humored. I could not be happier with the service they've provided and look forward to continuing the relationship.

OH how much do I love Isabel Sippo, let me count the ways! If I could sum up my feelings with one word it would be grateful. I am beyond thankful that the person assigned to onboard The Land Institute was Isabel. I am sure none of us expected that the 6-8 week onboarding process would last 8-9 months, we are where we are today because Isabel brought her A game every ...single...day. She stepped in at many dark moments (staff changes, impossible deadlines, lack of process)and masterfully guided us along the way, she remained optimistic and rolled with all the things that make The Land Institute unique and weird :) Isabel's audit background helped me understand how to balance the changes we had to make to meet audit and internal control needs, and she also provided me with sound counsel on how to structure the roles and responsibilities of the finance and grant team. She modeled leadership and perseverance, I owe our progress and my success to Isabel. The highest compliment I can share is that Isabel became such an integral part of the TLI team, that most people assumed I hired some mastermind named Isabel. Often, I had to remind people that Isabel was not a TLI employee and no I would not ask her to jump on a zoom call to talk about some new initiative. All of this is to say, I think Isabel is incredibly gifted and while I hate to "give her back", her superpower is her ability to help challenged and somewhat dysfunctional organizations sort themselves out. She is the perfect onboarding partner. I am very excited to work with Trina and Crystal, and I am certain, Isabel did everything in her powers to get us all ready for this day. I am surely Isabel's greatest fan and just have to say, if she ever changes her mind and wants to work directly with one client, sign me up!!! Thank you to the entire team at The Charity CFO for your patience, if I can share my experience with a potential new client, I would gladly be a reference.
